I learned this the hard way by trying to start one with the valve cover off. Then I realized that the valve cover on a 4-mix is part of the intake tract to lubricate the valve train. Because there is no oil sump,there are passages throughout the engine to lubricate it with premix like a 2 stroke.
@mrboom45709 ай бұрын
Good vid. Most folks don't realize the valve cover is part of the crankcase primary compression.

I thought the hole in the valve cover was caused by a valve wich had too much clearance. Due to that, the rocker arm touched the valve cover. What do you think?

"Show me." is something I have often said in my life. The last time was when a friend said he got upset with his wife because she turned their overheating vehicle off before he could pull the radiator cap and add coolant while running. I asked "Are you outta your mind?" He said "Nothing will happen. I've done it many times." I pulled my truck over, popped my hood and said "Show me." He refused to show me saying... "Well, your truck's not overheating."

Steve, enjoy your videos. If you catch this post, how about a video on running avgas in small engines. I've started using it to avoid ethanol in the gas. I've advised others to use it and then got to thinking about the catalytic converters on some of the newer engines. Leaded gas and cat converters are a bad mix I believe. What are your thoughts?

Thats why I have the Combi system from Husqvarna. Just a basic two stroke. No Valves, no cams, no problems…
@mikespain86559 ай бұрын
The 4-mix engines from Stihl are great engines. I will take a Stihl over a Husqvarna all day long. 4-mix or 2-stroke, Stihl is better.
@derrasenmaher97309 ай бұрын
@@mikespain8655 all of the Brands have good ones and bad ones. I prefer Husqvarna over others when it comes to Gas powered combi systems. My old one lasted me 15 years in Commercial use. The new ones (122 LK and two 525 LK) are tough and reliable. So why should I buy others? My Saws are all Stihls and Dolmars, so are the leaf blowers too. Every Company out there has good ones and Bad ones, I buy stuff that would fit my needs and not to others.
@briantii9 ай бұрын
I’ve got 10 years on my Stihl Kombi with the 4mix and zero issues. Tons of torque, starts easy, doesn’t smoke, idles low and smooth, and just gets the job done. Not saying Husky won’t either, but Stihl has a great engine with the 4 mix. I definitely prefer it over a traditional 2 stroke. Yes, you may have to adjust the valves once or twice as it breaks in, but it takes less than 5 minutes. I also have the BR800 with the 4 mix. Again LOVE the 4 mix. Wish they would make a BG86 style with a very of the engine. I’ve had far more issues with my 2 strokes than the 4 mixes. Enjoy your Husky though. They’re great machines too!
@derrasenmaher97309 ай бұрын

Although it's a neat concept, the Stihl 4mix machines have their issues. The better design was actually the Shindaiwa Hybrid 4 as the path through the engine (carb, crank case, up the valve galley and into the cylinder) was pretty straight forward while Stihl had a more direct path from the carb through the crank to the cylinder.

Nice one Steve. I never try to be a know it all. But I know what I know. If I don't know I keep my mouth shut and watch and learn. Having said that I love nothing more than to call bullshit on a mouth peice know it all and make them prove it right or wrong. The last time I got the pleasure was actually a woman that kept telling me I was putting the bobbin in my wifes sewing machine wrong. I finally got tire of listening to her and said "ok smartass, show me how its done". So as smug as she could get she put it in slick as a whip, hit the peddle and destroyed the needle, bobbin and the carrier for it. Cost her $65 to fix it. She's never tried to tell me how to do anything again.😅😅😅

My stihl weedeater today was running fine for a few minutes then it just stopped. I kinda looked at it like wth. I put it on the ground and pulled it one time and it started right up. So i went back to cutting then it did it again. It started back up and ran fine the rest of the day. What would make it do that? Dirt in the gas possibly. Im not sure. Never done it before.
