I'm huge Naseem fan but the old man rip was right not to reconcile, he didn't just train Naseem, he was his father, his mentor, his trainer, made Prince and sadly Naseem let the money and lights forget the most important thing that makes a man great, that's staying down, being loyal

I met Naz after the sad defeat to Barrera at the Northern General Hospital when I was a junior doctor treating his uncle dying of cancer. He looked depressed and the swag had diminished. We had an intimate chat about his uncle who he cared for deeply . A good person deep down that was humbled in defeat.. I cherish the memories of watching his fights when I was studying at Sheffield medical school . Respect to Naz and a great analysis by this channel . 👊🏼

We argued on this in FB. He lacked so many fundamentals. But he was SO phenomenally gifted in every sense that he didnt have to rely on many fundamentals to rise to the very top. At least until he fought a supremely well schooled fighter who had the chin to handle his counters. You tried VERY well to sell the Prince as technically schooled. But, for once, it didnt work. Still, he remains legendary anyways. That way, it still works.

Prince Naseem is among the youngest boxers to go pro at 18. He boxed till he was 28 when he retired. That ten years straight fighting -training pretty much non -stop. He made HUGE paydays, when anyone reaches the top of their profession they lose the animalistic drive to be on the top. Add the loss of his legendary trainer making him sharper. Like Prince Naseem or hate him his skill was among the greatest pound for pound.

Great breakdown as always 👍🏻 I’d forgotten his 2 punch destruction in his first defence which was UNBELIEVABLE! Has that ever happened before, in any Championship match? In any discipline? I don’t think so and would love it if anyone knows of any matches where it has 👍🏻 IMHO, coming back from a loss isn’t how I define ‘legendary’ fighters. Sure, it’s a feat most (including Naz) cannot accomplish however, the idea is to WIN not LOSE. I respect Naz for realising his career was over when he retired. That takes some guts and shows a high level of maturity. I would’ve been disappointed if he continued and likely won/lost in equal measure, which we see more often than not. That would’ve watered down what he did achieve and blemish his record. He literally destroyed everyone matched with him and in such a flamboyant way. George Foreman summed it up perfectly when he said: “This is some kind of Champion who sits and offers his title available and all the contenders say ‘No.’ It’s unheard of”. That right there is more than enough to confirm his ‘legendary’ status. Thanks again 👍🏻

There was a behind the scenes documentary on Nas for the Barrera fight shown on UK TV at the time. It was really good. What people don't realize is that he was done waaaaay before the last few fights he did. He didn't train or prepare for them. He had lost the fire in his belly and was totally out of boxing and you can see that even before the Barrera fight. He simply got domesticated and lost the hunger for it.

Naz is the age-old story of someone with freak-level talent and skill losing to their greatest opponent: themselves. Just like his coach said "be nice to people on the way up, because you'll meet them again on the way down".
