@Free Speech I think Dr. Leo advocates that there are cover boards set above the whole colony, that way when you open the lid the hive it is still enclosed. You remove these small boards only over the area that you wish to inspect, this ensures that the disturbance to the bees is minimal. You can check for honey and leave the brood intact, or you can uncover only one or two frames at a time and check each brood frame without disturbing the whole. The use of follower boards is also advantageous. Check out some of the long langstroth hive management videos, they explain it very well.

Where I live in the UK, Shepherd's Pie is made from ground lamb, and if it's another meat like beef or pork, it's called Cottage Pie. We also add a dash of Worcestershire Sauce. One of the best comfort meals around. Willow really is getting a pregnant waddle on. ❤

Hello Al, I was watching your bee hive build and noticed you put three entrances into it. You should only have one at the end. You need to make a separation board that drops in like your regular frames. You can move it to enlarge their space as they grow. You might want to make a queen excluder also. This will make harvesting the honey easier for you because you don't have to worry about finding brood in your honey frames. Just a few thoughts to share with you to help. I love your channel and watching your projects and the animals and your family as you all share your little journey called LIFE. May God bless you and your family.

If you ever get cattle, you'll need to fence off the beehives. Our cows get into everything and would easily knock over the hives. So, plan for that when you determine where to place them. Also, I've seen where beekeepers put the legs with water under the legs to keep ants from getting into the hive. I'm not sure how they do that, but you might need to do research.

Just build 2 half horses with the top rail the same length as your bench is deep + 3 1/2" then build guides with 2 2x4's screwed to the bottom of your bench framing allowing just enough room for the top rail of your horses to slide between and cap the bottom with 2x6 and you have slide out half horses to use you hand held saws and other stuff that only take up 3 1/2 inches of your floor space and still allow access to the bottom shelf.

Al. Might be a good idea to put long boards at the base of legs on the bee hive so the wind don't blow them over..6.foot 2x4s on each end ?

Maybe some metal sheet pans could work and instead of oil you might think about using diatomacious earth. The hive looks wonderful hopefully the bees will to. Have a great day!!! :-)

btw you need a queen screen for the entrances , that keeps queen in and workers in/out .because if queen does not like the box , she will swarm away asap !!!!!!!!

I enjoyed the make shift metal break! I will say working with metal a lot it makes it super nice to have one. But way to use that ingenuity.

I must say that your bee boxes are a vast improvement to the ones I've always seen on farms around here...nice looking

Confused dot com Shepherds Pie is usually made with Lamb, the alternative made with Beef is usually called Cottage Pie (at least that's what it is in the UK)

That was an interesting project. Should be intriguing to see how things move forward when the Bee's arrive.

Al don't forget to do end caps so that wasp's and mud dobbers don't build in those beautiful bee boxes. Smart thinking about not putting glue on the legs, in case of needing to replace them. Get them chicken's wings clipped, do they aren't flying up at feeding time. Much love from OHIO ❤️ ❣️❣️ ❤️

You could also use Diatomaceous earth - also known as D.E., in the pan below the hives.
