I'm 62 and grew up in Georgia listening to Mother's Finest and I never understood why they didn't get their due recognition. I actually went into a grocery store one night and the cashier said Mother's Finest had just come through and even autographed a paper bag for them...true story. Every song just blows me away. No one like them ever.

I am in Alabama and they used to play at music festivals outside in the middle of the summer in the heat. everyone loved Mother's Finest and they didn't get half of the recognition they deserved. they still perform mostly in Europe. look up the 1976 performance of Fire on Don Kirschner's. their talent is so good it's ridiculous

They recorded a fantastic rock album in the early 90's called "Black Radio Won't Play This Record" - and it's one of the best albums of the 90's! Phenomenal band - I saw Prince perform this at an aftershow a few times, and it was always a trip! :)

I'm 61 from Amsterdam in Holland. Never had the pleasure of seeing them live, but I also never understood why they were so underrated. This song made us throw our purses in someones lap and storm the dancefloor. It still makes me dance- the hardcore rock/soul/funk with the incredible voice of Joyce Kennedy- it's unheard of. Very authentic, still one of my favourite lovesongs EVER.
@josebrown5961
@josebrown5961 21 күн бұрын
@@smoly37They were so “underrated” because they were black. Black radio didn’t get behind them. I am talking about nationwide not the East Coast soul stations. So black radio didn’t back them and Rock radio didn’t back them either, mostly because they were black. I know that sounds weird but that’s the way it used to be in the US. I was a black teenager and the only way I heard about Mother’s Finest was a white employee of my dad’s. He had moved to Chicago from North Carolina and he had one of their 8-Track tapes and I was curious. He played a little for me and I was hooked. I even became a DJ and even then I couldn’t get my Program Director to let me spin Mother’s Finest.

I've been going through the minor hits of 1977 (the year I started listening to music as a kid) and I thank KZbin for letting me hear these funky songs that never made it to the radio in my snow-white town.

It is both a privilege and a honor with Clint Ivie and Sol Junky/ band to have shared the stage with Mother's Finest for two sold out shows. The nights and performances were incredible and unforgettable! Including the After-parties!

I saw this group in concert growing up in Winston-Salem, NC back in the 70's. AWESOME! Before in Living Color, before Linkin Park, Mother's Finest were a trailblazing group!

Hell yeah! I did the same in Charlotte! I'll never EVER understand why MF didn't hit the big time. Makes me sad. Opened for the Doobie Brothers amongst others in those days.

Never heard of MF until '79 when I moved to ATL, GA. They were big with the locals down there and got good airplay. I heard one cut by them and stood on my head. This was the sound! Incredible band. Never reached sustained chart topping success, but I'm thinking they have influenced so many great artists. They should be in RnR Hall of Fame
