Mob Psycho is one of those anime that after I've watched an episode I can say I enjoyed it, but struggle to find the motivation to start a new episode each time they come out. I don't know what it is about it, but I just can't get excited for it and will most likely just get so far behind that I will never be bothered to try and catch up unless I was forced to, which is how I ended up watching the first season to begin with

actually quintessential quintuplets (5Toubun no hanayome) the manga has no fanservice whatsoever, the author stated clearly that he loves all the sisters equally and he respects them as characters, and yeah the manga explores the connection between family and sisblings and how communication is important between people, you'll be surprised at how much development the sisters have it's outstanding. oh and the story doesn't follow the "episodic" formula of typical harem manga, it's divided into arcs and every arc has a central conflict. hope you'll enjoy it it's a really great but underrated manga

@OddFuture Shield Hero is immediately starting out with darker undertones. Without spoiling too much, it's one of the only other world anime where the main character starts out without broken powers and at level zero. "The Price of Smiles" has also started out pretty dark in its first 2 episodes, the name itself should express the tone.

the promised neverland is absolutely amazing. the mysteries and the characters are really compelling and deep. nowadays ive felt that the plots and characters of new anime/manga are too shallow. and i've wished for more manga like hunterxhunter where it has action, but there is also an underlying message or more complex character interactions and relationships. the promised neverland characters kinda remind me of the cast from hunterxhunter in that they are all interesting in various ways. not just the main characters but the supporting cast as well. a story where problems aren't solved through brute force or sudden power ups is refreshing and i wish there were more like this anime.

Minor spoiler, Neverland is much more survival adventure than horror as the first episode might suggest. Even the first 40 chapters or so (which isn't adventure)/the first arc is more psycological thriller/prison break than horror. Its still one of the best ongoing mangas so definitely give it a shot, but don't go in expecting too much horror.

The controversial opening conflict of Shield Hero which you described actually sounds like a plot point taken from ancient mythology and folklore. The most obvious example I can think of is Joseph the Dreamer from Judeo-Christian tradition, who, after being sold off to a foreign land (Egypt), became a trusted assistant of an Egyptian official, before the official's wife tried to seduce him. When she was unsuccessful, she accused Joseph of trying to rape her, and the official had Joseph jailed. Joseph then had to regain the favor of his superiors through his talent (interpreting dreams) and strength of character. (This story is, however, based on a different, even older version from a different part of the world - I can't remember the details.) This seems like an interesting twist on that storyline - a protagonist thrust into a foreign world, put in a position of trust but then falsely accused of rape, and now has to work his way back up. The difference is, instead of the paragon of virtue Joseph was, this protagonist seems to become an antihero instead. TLDR: I thought the anime's plot point was a callback to ancient mythology, and had nothing to do with the current political climate.

Other than the slave girl eventually showing signs of romantic affection (which never gets taken seriously since he ends up having more of a father-like relationship) there isn't no problematic harem aspect going on. The sister isn't even a part of the group, a supporting member with a whole story relating to her older sister with a whole struggle of power going on. Plus there's many more characters that get added in later on which are interesting. Just pointing out the bad points of anything without the good points would easily make whatever you're describing looks bad, if anything it just shows that you have a completely biased and opinionated viewpoint of the series in general.

Naofumi (in manga at least) has swung waaaay past the justified level of jaded, cynical and conflict prone and right into the cartoonish portrayal of those trait. Not to mention that almost no one is portrayed as being on his level. Moreover, after less than a month he seems to be even more constantly hyper competent and in-control of the situation than, say, Geralt of Rivia - a century old veteran adventurer - is during his journeys.

Yeah domestic na kanojo is a very mature romance show that we rarely get. I know it's not the same as kuzu no honkai, but I love how both shows explore stories where love and romance is complicated by real life circumstances. While kuzu no honkai is a little too heavy for some to watch, domestic no kanojo is more audience friendly while maintaining the right intensity and complexity. The songs are crazy good too very appropriate for the show

As someone who binged the Shield Hero manga in a day after watching the first episode, I think that most of the controversy surrounding the first episode is premature. Yes, the inciting incident of the story is a false rape accusation, but it's at the hands of a character who is a manipulative and sociopathic schemer, not a surrogate for all/most women (basically, she's Cerci Lannister). Aside from the court of public opinion being swayed against him, the story makes it a point that Naofumi's instinctive distrust and spite towards others and society is very much a bad thing and that he has to learn to overcome because he only ends up hurting the people who genuinely care for him. The slavery aspect is definitely a bit more problematic, but I think the show does a good job of justifying it from his point of view. Because of what happened, Naofumi is mentally and emotionally incapable of trusting others unless they are magically bound to never betray him, and aside for some moments at the start and occasional dark jokes, he doesn't treat his slaves as merely his property or force them to do something against their will. In fact, he tries his best to be a father figure for the young orphan girl he purchases, wanting to give her something she otherwise couldn't have. While this may seem like an Uncle Tom's Cabin case, I think the story clearly makes a point to show that Naofumi is definitely an exception and that slavery, both in our world and in this fantasy one, is a very cruel and barbaric practice. In other words, the story isn't some "incel manifesto" as some critics like to portray it as. In fact, I would argue that it's the exact opposite: it's the story of an incel's road to recovery.

One more thing that is spoiler, since you're already read the manga but I'll just put the tag here *Spoiler* One time Raphtalia slave seal are broken but he said it's fine if Raphtalia doesn't want to put the slave seal again, though Raphtalia still put it on....not to mention the Slave who is under a hero can also get a huge amount of boost, basically they level up faster and has better stats. And it also irony how Naofumi take care his slave like a family but the other people treat their party member like a trash

I got that just from watching the first episode. Which I finished just five minutes ago. If the world spits on you without any proof of wrongdoing, of course you're going to lose the ability to trust anyone. I wouldn't call the slavery part "problematic". It is the conflict, basically a living reminder of how low he sank after being falsely accused. And as someone who won't have time to read the manga, I can't wait to see how the rest of this plays out.

I'll be real, those hopes for Shield Hero are a bit wrong. The show allows the main character to be excused for his dubious deeds as, barring the occasional visits to the slaver, he doesn't engage in villainous activity once things get going. This is more of a solid underdog story of someone climbing up from disgrace and earning the title of Shield Hero.

Shield Hero is an amazing isekai anime and probably one of the few isekai I’ll ever watch besides the Slime one edit: yes i know about re:zero, log horizon, no game no life, GATE, etc. I've seen most of these, and the ones I've watched are cliche to me (harem elements, wish fulfillment). The only one I haven't seen yet is Log Horizon so I'm looking forward to that, because it's like .hack and that was a pretty good game.

It's a bad look for a first impression in addition to all the other problems that make the set-up painfully contrived and unbelievable, in addition to the protagonist being a giant ass. Time is limited, and some people aren't going to be convinced to spent theirs on this show by people saying "I promise, we're going somewhere with this". I've only read the first four chapters of the manga, but I got the cliff notes version of a friend with a lot more time on his hands. Going by what I heard from him, the series does have some smart things to say, but it needs to do a lot of dumb stuff to get there because the smart stuff only applies in a world where everything is dumb. I don't have that kind of patience.

Hey Geoff, I watched the preview episode of Shield Hero when it came out and ended up caught up on the manga within 2 days. I have actually been blown away by it and it's anti-hero dynamic as he shows what really makes a hero as the story progresses. Definitely one to keep tabs on if the anime does the manga justice! Some elements feel typical of an isekai and some feel really original and act as a good way to avoid the usual ruts isekai end up in.

So, I discovered Shield Hero a while ago, years I think. When I ran out of manga to read, I went to reading the novel. Shit definitely imprinted on me, and there's a lot of interesting stuff going on, but boy howdy does some messed up shit happen. Not in the berzerk or horror way, more like, "ok, that's... not the best storytelling contrivance or plot point." I actually followed along with Slime Reincarnation much the same way (Both LNs were translated by the same group), although I never actually finished that one, as it too was starting to show some similar problems, but still outweighed by cool themes, characters, and ideas. I'd reccomend them both to anyone who wants to give ot the time.

I am so hyped for Rising of the Shield Hero this season! Spoilers below With that 25 episode run time RotSH should be able to, if it keeps progressing the plot at the same pace, show us the nose dive Naofumi takes from grace and consumed by wrath to slowly and gradually work his way back up, after showing his self-interested attitude, but still working to protect the countryfolk even when the Trash king and everyone ostracized him. If it does keep progressing like this I can’t wait for Bitch and Trash to be put in their place. I’m soooo hyped for this anime adaptation Also damn, Raphtalia gets *THICK.*

One of the main themes to manga that I enjoy in my opinion is that if he wasn't such a good person it would be the making of a villain. Everyone treats him like he's a villain and many people in that situation would just give in and become a villain. @@skwerl224 It is the most unique and the best harem story I've ever came across. All the characters are life-like and it doesn't seem like you're just watching a show or reading a manga. It feels like you are witnessing the life of the protagonist and the main characters. Most of the side characters too have shown great development. The creator has really put a significant amount of effort into this and it shows.

I heard good things about Mob Psycho 100 Season 2 so I finally decided to watch Season 1 and boy oh boy it's one of my all-time favorites already. Promised Neverland and Kaguya are also wonderful so far.

I was honestly worried about what you had to say about Shield Hero, because this is one of my favorite series and I hate that so much controversy has been made about it. It’s frustrating, and it’s something I really want other people to watch. Not in spite of its problematic values, but because of it. I’m pretty liberal, and that’s actually why I’m so in favor of people watching this because it truly has something to say.

The manga is really popular! It has an interesting setting and a lot of "mind battles" (if that's the right term) which is always cool, if you ask me. As soon as I noticed there was going to be an adaptation I though "oh, this will be everyone's new favorite anime for sure". If not, at least it'll be really popular, I'm sure. Assuming they'll make a good adaptation, of course.
