the beautiful thing about this kind of art is that its vague enough for you to interpret it however you want (yet powerful enough to have deep meaning and make you go 🥺). if the artist comes out and explains the meaning, it ruins the song in a way

This arc feels like a fictionalized version of a true story. Boy makes music, boy likes girl, boy goes pro, leaves girl behind, career "blasts off". hollywood life is alien. living on tour buses, no idea where he is most the time, misses girl, misses home, returns and realizes he's become "alien" to everyone he used to know. All the old places are now empty. It's a dark take, but I wouldn't be surprised if I was somewhat right.

P.S I don’t know how JOJI isn’t the biggest thing in music right now in this genre. My guess is because, it’s too real and many people can’t grasp it. I loved this so much! I also feel like in “Like You Do”, the lyric “lost in the blue” may refer back to the blue pills and lifestyle of trying to drown out the feelings of heartbreak. “they don’t love me like you do” meaning even though the pills and partying are fun in the moment, they don’t compare to the love he feels. what do you think?
@prichicidaniel9622
@prichicidaniel9622 2 жыл бұрын
i’d much rather go with the explanation that “lost in the blue” is referring to feeling blue, or sad, and him feeling lost in a deep sense of sadness or depression, and the partner helping him out of it

I love the people who really want to interpret the lyrics behind of a song, I always think "what happen to this people ?" when they compose this kind of pain lyrics, when I started listening Joji's music I think "omg, I feel the same way...omg so.. some girl or someone hurt him a lot... and how much hurt him?, that he had the need to express this emotions into this intense lyrics/music.. I don't know.. it's a shame, but, thanks for those hurting experiences, we have this amazing songs. If the pain behind the lyrics it's real, I understand why Joji never smile or show that enjoy singing this songs (at the last 2020 on Extravaganza or other shows), and I think that singing the same feelings again and again, he will stay in the same pain mood, and that's not the best feeling to stay for a long time, I hope that Joji bring us more lyrics about less toxic love or more positive vibes, showing us that he feels better and he feels enough ( the line that repeat in a lot of songs"i'm not enough") I want a Joji that accept the great and talent man he is... haha Just saying, it's my humble opinion.

No you're totally wrong. Watch more live clips, I've never seen him happier. Also in interviews he's joking around. He's an up-beat guy. I can't disagree more in you saying it's wrong to express sadness through art, saying it perpetuates it. I mean maybe you're right but I've been really sad and depressed and I envy these artists being able to turn it into something beautiful.

That’s very interesting analysis, I haven’t noticed some of the points you made. I’ve thought about the order of songs and lore as well and the more I re-listen to the album the more I think Joji addresses it to his OG fans and his relationship with his audience, not necessarily a relationship with a girl. See Joji Spotify rise exclusive video - he says the stories are not related to him, not autobiographical, but are related to how he’s feeling. The Nectar song list follows Joji’s public persona development chronologically - such a massive disconnect from the title of Ew to the craftsmanship of the song may mean the song is about his feelings in his Francis of the Filth times.. Modus can mean his audience expected him to churn youtube FF videos like he’s a machine but as time keeps ticking away you can see in the Tick Tock video the novelty of the goofying around wears off and makes Joji look more and more unhealthy. He then says goodbye to these artificial characters in Daylight and implores the public to upgrade to like a new version of him - jojivlogs, and give him love. Sadly the audience didn’t appreciate him for who he is and even said his own vlog ruins some of the omniverse auhenticity - so Joji had to Run (“I know you’re not in love like you used to be, cause I’m not the one that you used to think... I know that I’m stuck in this misery, guess I’m not enough... so I’ll just ruun”). “You blew out my fuse” may refer to his worsening neurological problems. This goes on until he finds a sanctuary in his new music. The hopes are high and he’s under pressure to be a typical “pretty boy”, but chooses to stay authentic to himself, back to his roots with his childhood friend Rei Brown, he tries to remain a normal person. He’s trying to be reborn away from his past, give his music a reboot. So towards the end he says goodbye to his audience through Like you do as his old self, only to welcome them again as the new person that he is after this album in Your man. There’s so much more than can be said and analysed from the lyrics and lore but I get a feeling this album is Joji’s journey to himself.

Joji is a genius. Eventhough he's really very famous I feel he's still very underrated. In Europe for example he's not nearly as famous as in the US and it's a shame, I feel 88rising has a very US-centric view, and you can tell by the fact Joji has still never done a tour in Europe.

Great video! One thing that I would add is that the purple suspected Curium is Joji's toxic, but it was something that the other members of the team strived towards. This can show that other people's nectar can be other's toxins. During Pretty Boy and FTC, the heavily botoxed old men could be Dr. Wallace's superiors from UN, and could be causing him a lot of stress. This connects to Daylight which may have been a dream sequence with characters that are actually people who were in Wallace's life, and the commanding attention-seeking men may have been a metaphor for Wallace's superiors trying to find Curium at all costs, even putting the lives of employees at risk.

In the video of modus the machine is a Stirling engine. A Stirling engine is a heat engine that is operated by the cyclic compression and expansion of air or other gas between different temperatures, resulting in a net conversion of heat energy to mechanical work.

Such a well put video, I remember first listening to this album without understanding the real lyrics and only enjoying the beat. This came out before my first relationship and now that I'm out of it, I can finally understand the meaning and lyrics of these songs and enjoy both the beat and lyrics.

I loved and totally appreciated this in-depth analysis, but where’s “Afterthought”? That’s literally my favorite song in the entire album, and honestly Benee’s vocals were the most beautiful compared to the rest of his songs. But nonetheless, elegant analysis!

The amount of detail the man puts into his music actually is astonishing, not only does he get influenced by what he's experienced but also takes that to his music side to express his feelings.

At 25:10 I’m 90% sure that joji was referencing blue pills in “the matrix”, because they keep you stuck in the matrix in the same way joji is stuck in the industry, and he’s afraid he’ll end up like the same old men that run it badly now, which is why they are in the daylight and pretty boy videos But I also believe joji’s lyrics intentionally have double meanings or multiple meanings all over the place. It’s how he tells so many stories through his music at once. I think Joji puts out content similar to how Frank did. Both personalities craft an atmosphere that leads you to be interested in the lore behind what is going on.

I think this is by far his best album and I now realize it’s because I just think of love the same way. Ew is one of my favorite songs but pretty boy is a banger

I always interpretted as Mr Hollywood as a description of one lost and broken person trying to save another lost and broken person, by using the imagery of post hookup lingering in early dawn lighting. its a song about someone seeing, trying and failing at saving someone else who is on the brink of suicide. "Tell you all the rules, I know I'm searching too Give me all your clues and things to guide me through The end of the world, the end of the world" (Im broken and empty too, I need you to share your tips on how to keep goin') "Don't blow out the fuse when darkness comes to light So much I could do to make you come to life" (Dont give up on life when it gets dark, maybe I can change your mind) "Fingers coming loose, I see there's no more time Don't tell me I'm gone, don't tell me I'm gone"

It is really interesting to see peoples understanding of Joji and his newest album as a whole. I hope Joji will release more music soon, not only so that we have more amazing music to listen to, but to also continue this amazing story that Joji has so carefully crafted in these few years.
