I think investing in the share market is is a bad idea in this day and age. Unless you you have a load of money and something dives and you can buy lots of shares in that company and hope it goes up if it does then take the money out. The long term share market is not a reality right now. Stocks are volatile, and have been for the past 4 years. It's near it worse right now. Back in the day you buy stocks and they had a good chance to go up in price. Now, there is a much much bigger chance of the share crashing. Stocks in companies that are resilient cost way too much. So if you aren't loaded then they are a no go

You might be looking in the wrong information. Lot's of companies are trading cheaply and you missed his point that is you are buying companies for income = dividends. Dividends increase over time and account for 2/3 of someones pension pot when they retire. $10000 investment in the UK firm Legal & Gen 5 years ago would have paid you $500 that year, five years later those same share would paid you $1100 and dividend income is taxed far less. Stocks are cheaper to buy now than they have ever been and if you do not have much money to invest then you need to invest for income or you will work till you die.
