Thank you for explaining medically about what my Chinese old parents believed all along. Children esp. find the old “naggy” folks annoying for forcing down their beliefs without knowing how to explain only saying it is not good for the body, body will get sick etc for everything. They watch us with eagle eyes making sure we obey. So I am surprised by the truth in them. My youngest daughter is now succumbed with a very weak body physically and mentally after she secretly underwent a crash diet, bulimia and was aneroxic at one time. She is trying to regain her health now and tells me many wrong daily practices people do daily that she is avoiding now because her body could feel the negative effects which some is in this video. I was amazed that what she tells me are what old Chinese parents advise their kids not to do but we modern kids do not listen. After listening to this video, I feel bad for laughing off my parents or old people advice when I was young . I am old now and am glad I could send this link to all my children. I grew up in Mississippi in a wooden frame house without air conditioning. One of the few reliefs in the summer was to take a bath in the clawfoot bathtub at bedtime and put on pajamas without drying off, and then go to bed with a fan in the window. All this was probably a recipe for disaster but it felt magnificent after suffering all day!

Thank you Dr. Mandell for sharing yet more of your sage advice and knowledge. I was hoping you'd say something on taking cold showers, you didn't so I'm concluding they're healthier than luke-warm or hot showers? We have a saying here in Mexico, saying it first in spanish as the humorous anecdote may get lost in the translation into english: "Comer y rascar el chiste es empezar" Translation: Eating and scratching are easier once you've begun and I've recently added showering to the saying: "Comer, rascar y ducharse con agua fría, el chiste es empezar "Eating, scratching and showering with cold water are easier once you've begun"😂When I start the shower I'm 🥶but after a few seconds I love the feel of cold water refreshing me as I lather my hair and my body to later rinse it off and feeling so relaxful, I even yawn! 🙃😉👍 Happy New Year 2025 to ya Dr. Mandell, also for Momma Mandell and the rest of your beautiful family.

How often should one shower? Is a daily shower really good for you? We shower presumably to remove dirt and bacteria, but is this necessary every day? I don't think so. I do "sponge baths" with water and baking soda, This alkalizes my skin, making it a hostile environment for bacteria. Similarly, I wash my hair in the sink, using baking soda first and then a very small amount of shampoo and then a good rinse. I use baking soda instead of underarm deodorant (which usually contains aluminum or hazardous chemicals).
