Welcome to the soothing practice of legs up on a wall, also known as Viparita Karani in yoga. By elevating your legs above your heart level and resting them against a wall, you invite a plethora of benefits for both your body and mind.

Western medicine can be effective, but it also causes side effects that can affect you on a severity spectrum going from mild to deadly. The way forward is to remove the chemical compounds in the medicine that cause those side effects. We need to continue refining the medicine that’s already available along with creating or discovering new medicines.

Funny you said that. I told my husband to do it and dared him that he can’t do it because he’s so stiff 😅 but to prove me wrong he laid down and very quickly he lifted his legs against the wall without hesitation, and guess what? He pulled a muscle and had to take him to the osteopath because he was in agony and can’t move. 😂

I always teach my High School Yoga students that this is one of the most imported poses; Seated Leg Raise . I suggest that they do this at home against the wall as often as they can. They say it helps their anxiety and promotes relaxation🙏

Use to do this nightly in my teens. My bed was against the wall and I just found it relaxing to do while talking on the phone or talking to my niece that shared the room with me. Who knew it had so many benefits!😃

It is a yoga position Dr Mendel and thousand years back in practice. Either you stand on your head or if you are not able to do this position, take the support, putting your feet on the wall, and even if you can't do this, just roll on the floor from left to right as much as you can do. That will be GOOD digestion..

I started watching this video in bed. 2 minutes in I turned around and put my legs up against the wall. One of my cats immediately hopped on the bed and started kneading my belly 😂 so now the video is over, I have had 7 minutes of legs up and belly massaging… and now I have to go pee 😂😂😂 Thank you for all the wonderful information, Doc 👍❤️

@@Xubanqueen I’m only up to a few minutes now, it’s taking me a long time to get there. I also do 9 minutes of Asian squats, 3 minutes at a clip. It helps my lower back.

@@Xubanqueen i have always read, seen, and done 20 mins; i listen to "binaural beats" with headphones, while in the position. are you familiar with binaural beats? if not, please google. there is a station here on youtube, called "good vibes". they have a variety of them, for things like leg pain, etc. i listen to what i feel i need at the time.

Greetings: In regarding to timeframe, he said, …”by building”,….”by what is best for you”, …start off by doing 3 minutes, then 5 minutes, or, then 10 minutes. Basically, ..according to what feels most comfortable for you!!!😊 It was mentioned at the ending of the video! “sending wellness”🥰

I heard about this in the early 70s and I liked it. But one night, I fell asleep and woke up numb from my torso down, and had to roll off the bed!! Unable for awhile to get up & walk even. So if I did it, I started using a timer!!

most vids i have seen , and yoga instructors, recommend 20 mins daily. it's amazing. all kinds of benefits. i once had been doing it for several months, then met up with a galpal for lunch. she saw me from a distance as we were walking toward each other, and yelled out "DEBBIE!! YOU'VE SLIMMED DOWN!" i went home started trying on clothing i hadn't worn in some time...and they fit. :)

@@deborabump1618 Thank you! One of my yoga instructors suggested to the class that if you cannot do this pose for twenty minutes in one go, break it up into ten or five minute segments throughout the day. She said this pose is very helpful in preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

I try this often and I can feel my feet relaxed. Also I can feel how the blood starts to circulate better. It makes me relax, soothing and gets rid of any pain to my feet. My grandma taught me this and I love it. Thanks for sharing...

I've done this every time after standing and being on my feet at all day work, but I like getting in a recliner to do this pose. I believe that's the reason I don't have any varicose veins.

This exercise has been super helpful to my body. Thank you, Dr Mandell. If the wall position is a challenge a yoga ‘stretch out strap’ can be used to raise and maintain legs in this position too.

I love it too. It's become my default position whenever my legs need a rest. I as well fall asleep often and wake up a few hours later just to get up and turn out the lights. I am giddy with delight that I'm doing so much more for my body than I thought.😊
