Don't forget about condensation. I bought a condensate pump from home depot and ran clear tubbing to pump the condensate water out.

I have dealt with those portable A/C units and they are very inefficient in hot and humid climates. The reason is they cannibalize the already cooled air to cool the compressor and then exhaust the heated air through a large corrugated hose which acts as a heat radiator. The volume of air exhausted outside the trailer is significant and will create a negative pressure vacuum inside sucking in through every nook and cranny more hot and humid air into the trailer. Without adequate insulation there is no way that trailer will be made comfortable while the sun is out. If your plan is to use it only at night to sleep it may be just barely enough. A better choice would have been a 5-6K BTU window air conditioner, as they keep separated the compressor cooling system to the outside and recirculating cooled air to the inside. Those use less power and can be ran with a small generator, they will cool faster and to a lower temperature during the day and might freeze you at night. You bet! I figured with a 6x12 the overhead AC would be overkill, this one seems to be perfect for a small trailer like we have :)

Nice work man! If you didn't already, I'd paint or undercoat the edges of the hole you cut, to keep moisture out. Any future plans to insulate underneath?

I actually did end up painting the underside, any bare wood. I'm not certain right now, if we ever go to replace the floor I'll most likely insulate it though :)

Hey Sammy, I don't believe I did. I believe we paid $2,600 for the trailer itself and all of the mods including insulation, A/C, flooring, etc. it came out to around $4,000 which isn't bad imo. Hope this helps! :)

I know it’s an older video but here I am. How cold does it get in the trailer versus what you have it set at? Would it be able to maintain 74 degrees in the Florida heat?

It'll stay pretty cool as long as you aren't opening the door a ton, I think the hottest day we had was 86 and it kept the trailer around 75 most of the day
