I bought the 2020 Rocket 3R. For me it was a better fit. I'm 6 foot 208 lbs. I sit perfectly comfortable. I tried the GT and I didn't like it at all. The forward pegs were not comfortable to me. I didn't like going around turns with my feet so forward. The bars coming back felt uncomfortable. As far as the wind, I felt free and happy. Doesn't bother me. Mine is a stock R and does not have a windscreen. Just the piece above the headlights. It is enough to push the wind above my helmet. Probably for shorter people, you could put the GT bars on the R and have the short reach fixed and not have your forward foot pegs. Being a big guy, I love my R and can ride it all day for miles and smiles.

They're beautiful! I own a black GT 2021 model. I'm 53 yo, 6ft2in and heavyset and this bike has been great. I've always ridden big sport bikes, my last being a Kawasaki ZX14 Ninja 2010 (ZZR 1400 in England I think), but I started struggling with the aggressive riding position due to osteo issues in my neck, back and hips. I had to stop regularly and couldn't do long rides. The Rocket GT's laid back position is perfect for body and mind, I'm riding far less aggressively without losing performance. Hopefully my forever bike, it's true love 😍

It was the R that I went home with (after the taller windshield had been installed) and could not be happier! King of the road.

Just for information, Triumph do a mid-peg kit for the GT so you can get the best of both worlds. I'm about to have mine changed for the very reasons MotoBob talks about - you can't easily lift your weight off the seat but also because there are times when a quick dab of foot is needed and there's a delay from the forward pegs to the road. You also have to reach forward to the gear change when you're riding off which can be a bit iffy with a heavy bike. I'll be asking Triumph if they can do the mid peg conversion but leave the forward pegs in place. Sorted (if possible)!

Theres only one reason to go with the R rather than the GT, that cherry red paint job. I'm not a cruiser rider but I believe that the reason people fit ape hanger bars is so that they can lift themselves out of the seat when there's a bump ahead. Negating the need for mid controls. Again not 100% so do t quote me on it. Lastly, I've only just discovered your channel but I'm enjoying the content. Just a nice bloke riding bikes and telling you what he thinks about them perfect.

Aye, great bikes 💪 🚀 It’s funny Bob, after two extended rides of the GT I found it a bit too laid back, especially in corners and you can’t push through the forward pegs and that’s where the R has a real edge over the GT, tipping in and altering line mid corner. I bought the R and it’s much more chuckable but worth using with the shift assist and you can wind round till 7k, even the R is slight mid-forward. I have a mate and when on a cruise he brings the R18, but if we go to the hills then he brings the R9T... I am 5 10” but have a 32-33” inside seam and longer arms so maybe that’s the difference? Good points all round & about pegs.. My back is pretty straight and I find the mid pegs just support the back etc, and with sportier bars makes bike feel a bit more aggressive but still super comfy for longer runs :) silly big beastie!

Great review. Add a real windscreen, hand guards, panniers, and aftermarket heated seat inserts, for a perfect power cruiser, tourer. I've owned Victory bikes (Jackpot/Cross Country) 100 hp at near 700-800 lbs respectively, and did tons of cruising and touring on them, so with the R3s far better features expect it to be a great bike to live with.

Completely agree with your assessment. Initially, I preferred the R Model; but - I have ordered a GT with mid position foot rests. I also prefer the style of wheels on the the GT compared to the R model. Basically, as I told the Triumph dealer, the foot rest position was the "deal breaker" for me as I didn't feel safe or comfortable with my feet forward. The advantage (for me) was I also get the fly screen, heated grips, swept back bars, and back rest with the GT.

The quick shift looks like a small hydraulic setup that pushes a little fluid into clutch serkit as you move the gear pedal. At about 140 kph the pegs in R position give you an or_ some grip on the bike and so comfortable.

Beautiful bike but the tank capacity is too small - they needed to extended it below the seat to increase the range between fill ups

Yep, that's what I've thought since they announced it. Also could do with a reverse gear, not all of us are Arnold Schwarzenegger at his peak !

I need to test ride both styles. I originally always wanted a Suzuki M109r Boss but didn't like it once I rode it because of forward swept foot controls. The R version seems like it would be more comfortable since I currently ride a FZ-07

Sound 'on throttle' 5:37 7:09 Sounds much better than a twin, I'm surprised, I like the sound of an inline 4 gsxr etc.. but this sounds really nice, and again better than a twin imv.

Another reviewer said the windscreen works best over 200 mph (322km/h). Your review is the first I've heard anyone say to move the pegs back... they're always "R or GT"... not GT and move pegs back.

I have to say that I like the look of European cruisers. I can really see myself buying the Rocket 3 one day. However, I say that about a lot of bikes haha. As an American cruiser boi, the Rocket 3 exhaust has a little too much of that British politeness. However, the looks do not have that effect. I like the way Triumphs look. They have a classy, well-built look to them. I could see someone in a suit or a modern hipster ride them. I know I want to own a Triumph one day. Sadly, the Speedmaster is a little too soft for me. If they came out with a new Thunderbird that meets the Euro 6 regs and has an engine bigger than 1,500 cc, count me sold. The Rocket 3 keeps catching my eye. Anyone who has ridden a Triumph is immediately hooked, so I know it's a good bike. The dealer network and the aftermarket scene are a bit scarce. That also might hold me back. Still, Rocket 3 and the V-Max are top-of-the-line when it comes to muscle cruisers

I would love this bike but too heavy. I am a small guy. This is the ultimate cruiser bike especially for the money! I own a Super Duke and a MV Agusta Dragster Pirelli edition. Anything over 500 pounds forget it. I really love the Rocket though

Great 👍🏼 Review - I’ve had 2 Rocket 🚀 III Tourings since 2008 - Considering the GT - Prefer the Triple Black, but hard to find - how’s the horn? 😂

I think you have the same idea as I have. The forward foot controls are just not comfortable nor confidence inspiring. One of the reasons I sold my Speedmaster and purchased a Speed Twin. Do you think one could change the forward foot controls for the mid controls without to much problem?

Great review. I noticed your comment about the jolt on your spine with rough roads due to the feet forward but how bad is it and how 'squidgy' is the suspension? I currently have the Harley Road King and this is exactly one of the reasons that I am looking at swapping my bike, but the Harley suspension is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard, any idea how the Rocket's compares?

Awesome. Had a test ride 2 days ago. Surprisingly good handling. Rolls over on that massive rear tyre. Didn't expect to like it as much as I did. GT with mid footrests definitely the way to go for me. Go go a test ride.

I’d like the r with the footrests where they are on the gt. I don’t carry passengers so I don’t care for pillions or luggage racks. HOWEVER, if someone gave me a gt I’d happily take it.
