Stunning result and not _too_ much effort involved, thanks to the makeshift polishing wheel. The prospect of doing it all by hand can be very discouraging! Does the ACF50 make any real difference? I'd have thought it would just turn the pipes a golden straw colour quicker from the heat, like WD40 does.

thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It does take some elbow grease but the moment you reach 800 Grit paper, the exhaust starts to shine and you can see the difference. It is quite satisfying to see the reflection become clearer and clearer with each pass ACF-50 helps a little against corrosion. The discoloration happen due to the metal nature (as afar as I know) regardless of the coating used. Even uncoated exhausts turn yellow and blue due to heat. The best treatment I found s far is Autosol anti bluing solution. It seems to remove the majority of the discoloration

@@aftermathrestoration.Greece thanks for sharing your experience and recommendations! I'll try the anti bluing stuff next time. No need to bust the abrasives out if it can be cleaned up chemically :)

Absolutely. If it’s a matter of discoloration no need for sanding. Chemical treatment can bring back the shine

Excellent job and nice finish! I usually get surface rust patterns after about a month (yes, I am that lazy 😄). Rust makes the dirt cling to the surface easier and then the pipes get super dirty much faster. Do you think that ACF - 50 can improve on that? No other rust concerns, I will use it only on the headers!

Thank you very much! Glad to know you like the process. I have one exhaust done few months ago (since October) and still in great condition. On the other hand, I had a client coming back with few rust spots. It was super easy to remove with 1000 grit sanding paper and another coat of ACF 50. The manufacturer claims that it tastes for 6 months. I’ll keep monitoring the pieces I did and keep you updated with another video. I have a test unit in the basement (perfect for rust) and will take it out in two months to see how well it looks

@@aftermathrestoration.Greece You are welcome, it definitely depends on riding and climate conditions, mine usually rust faster when the bike is parked at my beach house and after long trips. I think I'll give ACF - 50 a go! Take your time and let us know of the basement results!

I agree, the conditions make a big difference. Here in Greece most bikes that are located in islands have rust issues more than the ones in the mainland.

Thank you very much. So far it’s doing great, no corrosion whatsoever after 10 months. A little bit of yellowing at the headers from the heat. I do a quick polish with autosol and it’s all good

Have you ever tried Harpic X 10 WC, plus steel wool and Belgom Alu? That's the modus operandi here in France.

I have seen some videos but I prefer not to use harsh chemicals on bare metal. It open the bores and allow the corrosion to penetrate deeper.

@@aftermathrestoration.Greece okay, although after all that good work getting it smooth and clean you should immediately get it plated or chromed. Then it will last.
@aftermathrestoration.Greece
@aftermathrestoration.Greece Жыл бұрын
@@philtucker1224 I understand. Yes, it’s is the logical method to protect steel from corrosion. The issue is that Chrome plating in Greece is a bit overpriced compared to this work. Even though the job was done almost a year ago, the exhaust is still looking great with no rust whatsoever. Just a little discoloration on the headers from the heat. I’m looking into getting a plating bath (if that’s the correct name) for my shop to save time and cost
@philtucker1224
@philtucker1224 Жыл бұрын
@@aftermathrestoration.Greece that sounds like a really good investment after you mentioned about the high cost of chrome plating in your region. Any sort of anodising would protect the bare metal and you could use it for lots of different plating of metal parts and fixings etc etc ..👍🇬🇧
