After watching that I fell in love with adv riding and started dreaming about having and adv bike. Many years later I got one (bmw gs of course), did some great trips, traded in the bike last week and ordered a new 1300gs :-) I'm a big fan of all the three Long Ways. Love the whole Charlie and Ewan's team. Hope They'll make another Long Way

I so loved this original series. Ground breaking TV in many ways. Skillfully filmed by Claudio von Planta pre Gopro Action cams. Two mates with an idea who could gather a team together to make it happen. KTM really messed up, not sponsoring them as Charlie originally wanted. It led to the popularity of the GS with so many folks wanting to emulate (or at least make people think they could ride around the world) I had the book and the DVD and would still be happy to re-watch again now.

@flippy5118 I didn't say the journey was groundbreaking. Just groundbreaking TV and the way it was filmed. At the time I think Ewan was the only one who could be described as a celebrity.

I met Charlie 20yrs ago at the Sydney motorcycle show here in Australia 🇦🇺. I was 24 at the time and had just got back from a return trip on my CBR600F down to Phillip Island for the Moto GP. It was before the Long way round was released here in Oz. Not many of the punters knew who he was. I bought the dvd series, had a photo and got him to sign it. I binge watched those DVDs before binge watching was a thing! Thanks for keeping the dream alive Charlie ✊🏽✊🏽

20 years sure did fly by, can't believe how young they looked! I still remember Charlie getting pissed that KTM didn't want to have anything to do with the project, oh well their loss was undoubtedly BMW's gain when the show turned out to be a success. Really owe a great deal of thanks for Charlie and Ewan for introducing adventure riding to a generation of riders!

I loved this series. I know Itchy does it all on her own, and she is a true heroin, but this show was just so much fun to watch: the banter, the honest dialogue, the generosity to local people. Great entertainment value and a reminder to all those riders out there that adventure has many disguises and variations. Some are more collective and better prepared, others are solo, improvised and on shoe string. The main thing is to experience the excitement of new horizons, other landscapes, and unknown cultures without sitting behind glas as if your watching a movie, but by being "it it" in the famous words of Robert Pirsig. Very inspirational. Hope there will be a part 4.

I'm sure that Ed is great, but it's a shame when people talk about Charlie and Ewan being more privileged, less genuine, having a support crew, etc. With or without a support crew, it's a genuine feat and takes a certain kind of person to do it. In terms of adventure on media, they brought us something that we'd never had before.

I can't believe that was 20 years ago. I had just turned forty and now sixty. I watched your TV series religiously and have all three books. Your book By any Means which I have a signed copy, I won in a raffle at a fundraising evening for some Bikers from the Larbert/Falkirk area in Scotland who were inspired by you guys to do a tour of the UK top to bottom on BMW GS'S the book was I believe gifted by yourself after they contacted you about their plans. One of the organisers was a very good chef who was a client of mine when I was in Banking by the name of Brian Ainslie which was the reason I attended. It was a very good evening and Brian had me seated at the top table with the guest speaker who was an ex football Manager of Dunfermline FC by the name of Jim Leishman. What a very funny speech and a most enjoyable night. Thanks for the memories.

Hard to believe that 20 years have passed by since LWR and I have re-watched the DVD's a few times since. Charlie and Ewan stood on the shoulders of legends like Ted Simon and Austin Vince (Mondo Enduro) and launched ADV to another level. Magical story-telling with captivating videography thanks to Claudio. Now we have solo female riders like Noraly and Kinga among others showing us the world. Thanks for the memories and ride on!

Made me want to learn to ride which eventually did in 2013, ended up buying a Yamaha XT660 as first bike then onto a new 2015GSA which was ridden all over Australia thru the outback and is now in Ireland after moving home and ready for some big European rides. This show gave me the bug of bikes so holds a found spot.

Must have watched it four or five times, always when life seemed so terribly dull it helped pick up my spirits. Now at roughly the age and positions that they were back then I’m planning my own adventures on my bike. Nothing crazy, nothing too far but for me and my buddy it’ll be an adventure. On a GS? No, far too heavy, far too expensive. But without those two lads and those two bikes I’m fairly sure I wouldn’t be riding at all.

Really enjoyed that, LWR was and still is amazing. Charlie, Ewan and Claudio were incredible, folks who know it have never ridden an 11GSA off road and probably not done much adventure travel on a big bike. I’d love it if the same crew could do a small but exciting trip on the 1150’s again, those bikes are brilliant and will still be going in another 20 years when the electrics will have long failed on the new bikes.

Ace vid Loved Long Way round :) i grew up watching it Charley, Ewan and the team were a huge inspiration to me. Ive just recently realised my dream of owning and Riding a BMW R1150GSA after having the more modern 1200s. Its really refreshing having something thats easy to spanner on and you can buy the service manual for :) she needed a bit of work but ive got her perfect now 😀 i hope we see more simple to work on and unique looking motorcycles again in the future. For me Long Way Round inspired me to see motorcycles as a way of adventure and engaging with the world, nothing better for your mental health :) than finding adventure wherever you can on a motorcycle.
