Test rode this bike last year and I can't stop thinking about that induction roar and the feeling after twisting the throttle like a storm was gathering up. If I hadn't gotten my FZ-09 2 years ago I would have gotten this bike for sure!

nothing the reviewers nit picked about is anything that cannot be fixed easily aside from the handling. The throttle issue is an easy and known fix and suzuki is already issuing new ECU's to owners with issues and a simple TPS rig adjustment fixes it. The brakes could use better pads but having 4 piston mono block on the front is great for the price point. The suspension is good and much more adjustable than say an FZ-09 and thats the one place where the price shows. The engine puts out nearly the rated power at the reat wheel out doing the new FZ-10 by 10 RWHP in stock form comparing early dyno numbers. All that and you also get class leading MPG's. This bike may not have the tricks and flash of the bikes costing 5-6k more than it but its a great bargain that you can get dealer service for even in a town of 30k people unlike the rest.
@shaneverrall82778 жыл бұрын
I've owned one now for 6mths and I can tell you the abrupt throttle isn't an issue. My first impression was exactly that. However I can reassure you that you get used to it and they are tricks to making it smoother. Put more tension on the throttle cables down by the throttle body and get rid of the slack as much as possible on the throttle side..but not to point the engine idles up when you turn lock to lock. Seriously this bike has so much power, brakes are awesome, handles amazingly and for 14,700 AU brand new..???? Best looking baked bike out there!! Don't be put off by the snatchy throttle - once you put 2000kms on it you want even notice it..

My god that bike looks amazing! I agree that it might be 3rd place but against much more expensive bikes with larger motors, hopefully they have a software update soon to fix the slightly snatchy throttle, man do I want that thing bad! I've read it makes 145hp at the wheel stock, good gravy!!!

Well, sure the Tuono is better, but it sounds like it's not hugely better. At 40% more money I could probably get a new GSXS1000 and a used GSXR600 for the cost of the Tuono

I rode the suzuki a week a ago and i thought it was a damn near flawless bike. Anyway, what's up with comparing it with bikes costing 6 to 7 grand more? The tuono and the Duke also have a larger displacement. It's like comparing a 2 liter Toyota with a 2.5 liter BMW and a 3 liter Audi.
@jamsxr9 жыл бұрын
Same type of bike though. Nothing bad with coming 3rd considering the price point.

+cueballB It's motorcycle journalism in the west. shit tons of bias on Japanese import. If a Ducati rides like shit, it got character, blah blah blah. If it's a Honda, worst bike ever.

+James Currey The Japanese is still King. RC213v-s by Honda, Kawasaki H2 and the new R1M. For the last 30 years, MotoGP Constructors Champion was won by Japanese companies with only 2007 as an exception. So, yeah, don't know where you get your info, buddy, they are wrong.

+Joseph Hui +Joseph Hui (facepalm) clearly you need educating. If you want real world performance you need to look at the superstock championship which has been won by the Europeans for the past 9 years. If you also look at the world superbike champions since it started in 1988, the Europeans win 17 - 11.... Maybe you should consider all the facts buddy!
@cueballB9 жыл бұрын
+James Currey Meh, both the Japanese and the Europeans make good bikes. My problem is comparing apples with oranges. There's nobody that would compare a Toyota sedan with an Audi sedan, with a larger displacement and a much higher pricetag. They might be the same type of car, a sedan, but there's really no comparison. Somehow, bikes do get compared in such a way, it's silly.

You can get a 2016 without ABS from a dealership with 2K off. That's enough for a PC5, full M4 exhaust and K&N air filter...that's 150 plus rear wheel HP on the dyno,
@razorbak67835 жыл бұрын
Exactly....just got my 2016 GSX S1000 yesterday and it already has the M4 exhaust on it...throw a Sprint racing air filter in it and have the ECU sent off and programed and I bet it may get in the mid 150's HP (if not more). Then the throttle twitch is fixed with plenty HP to smoke probably 98% of anything that pulls up along side of it... ; )...the damn thing is like riding a V8 with handle bars already.... ; )

I imagine an ECU reflash combined with some suspension calibration would go a long way in eliminating the Suzuki's minor flaws. I'd also throw on some steel bradded lines for good measure, but not a necessity. Even with the added expense it's still a fantastic value.
@iTxip8 жыл бұрын
+thepassionofthegoose yep and that way it will cost the same as the aprilia. i always throught steel bradded lines should be standard for any bike middle class or higher, cause almost anybody i know at some point buys them if the bike doesnt come with them. i dont know in the US price tag but here its just about 2k less than a tuono, and the tuono has all those little things you always end up buying from the get go, plus 30 additional horses, and the sweet sweet motogp like V4 sound. so i think thats 2k well spent, if you can spare the money of course. The suzuki its a damn fine looking bike though, and the aprilias in general tend to be thirsty bikes, those V engines need to drink.
@thepassionofthegoose54728 жыл бұрын
I could do the above mentioned upgrades in the US for around 1,500USD, which puts this several thousands less than the Aprilia. I'd MUCH rather have an Aprilia, but it'd cost several thousands more making the Suzuki a very tempting consideration.
@iTxip8 жыл бұрын
the price difference between the suzuki and the aprilia here is 1500-2000 euro, depending on retailer, so for me suzuki+extras has same price tag as the aprilia. but i understand your point, if the diference was 4k like in the USA i would definitely consider the suzuki. Right now im not even considering seriously changing bikes, im very happy with mine, but when i do i will also look at used ones with less than 10k, and im pretty sure kawsakis, suzukis and hondas will be much easier to find, but if i buy brand new i will go for aprilia, ktm, or the new yamaha mt-10
@thepassionofthegoose54728 жыл бұрын
Oh, then the Aprilia is by far the clear choice. In the US there's a 5K difference before mods, so the Suzuki is very tempting.
@exothermal.sprocket7 жыл бұрын
The closest the Tuono gets to a GSX-S1000-ABS is $4,300 per msrp. Let's stop exaggerating. And who's going to buy the least expensive base Tuono? Get the Factory model and now it's $7,000 difference. Full exhaust (people do it on any bike), ecu flash (many do it on any bike), and some suspension tuning to suit your body weight (should be done on any bike), and the Suzuki is the bargain of the decade. Regardless of brake feel, the GSX-S stopped shorter than other supernakeds costing a lot more in a multi-shootout test. Not to mention #2 most reliable brand next to Yamaha at #1. www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2015/04/who-makes-the-most-reliable-motorcycle/index.htm

Suzuki comes with a 5 year warranty and a reputation for reliability. It is cheaper. Seems like a no brainer.
For anyone interested the 2018 is fairly smooth as far as throttle snatch goes but can still throw one back violently when desired. The hardest thing i had to learn is what gear for speed. Generally speaking anywhere between 3rd (50km, usual suburban limit) and 6th (100 km + H/W). This is one comfy bike when set up correctly and really cannot be adjusted until properly broken in. They have upgraded brake lines and the Brembos with say Z04's give heaps of initial bite. Just pull the ABS fuse if its that much of a concern, i cant imagine riding my 2018 without ABS in the winter. Given the price point i believe you got it wrong. Each to their own i guess.

+Adam Waheed The new 2016 Z1000 has a slipper clutch, so I think including it in the test would have been a good idea. Also, omitting the BMW S1000R and the new Monster 1200R was also a mistake i reckon.
@ColoradoS149 жыл бұрын
+TheMediacenterpc A slipper clutch would not change the fact that the bike would most likely get last place still, it was not the reason it lost the last test and would not make it win this one...
@ColoradoS149 жыл бұрын
Looking at the score card and I think it may make sense to adjust it based on the type of bike you are reviewing. I see that the Aprilia got the lowest score in sound based on the fact that it was loudest. In a class of bike where most owners are going to put a new exhaust on the bike anyway to hear these things opened up this seems counter intuitive. I understand if you are reviewing a touring bike that low noise emissions can be a beneficial quality but to dock the Aprilia points because it puts out a few more decibels, even when the reviewers all raved about the great sound of the V4 engine seems silly to me. In fact I bet most owners would say that the louder exhaust is a positive on a bike that sounds this good and is this sporting in nature... Food for thought.

Come on guys, if a Tuono is more comfy than the GSXS I'll eat an Akrapovic! It's like an Africa Twin isn't competing against a $10k more GS Adv. The Suzuki isn't trying to outgun the KTM or Aprilia on track. Pitch it against the Speed Triple on the road and then you have a direct price / performance / intended use / demographic target audience comparison. If you're older than most journalists your butt will love the Suzuki.

Suzuki throttle is crap, Suzuki hesitation is bad, Suzuki on and off throttle is jerky, Suzuki in and out of the corner is unsettled due to throttle, Suzuki should have gotten throttle better, Suzuki Suzuki Suzuki. Now, compared to that 5 grand more expensive Tuono and 7 grand more expensive Duke, goodness gracious Suzuki, you should have done better. Seriously, it's like a few keystrokes on a computer to flash the ECU, and twiddle a few knobs on suspension and it's cranking out S1000R power and railing curves like no 10-grand bike should. It's fueled lean in the low end, dynos have clearly shown that. The dealerships usually set too much slop in the throttle tube. The hardware is all there, it's just programmed badly (thanks to emissions and noise regs). Most Jap bikes are restricted badly, no matter how expensive.
