Ford doesn't care if they bankrupt themselves or not because they know that Biden will run to them with a blank check and a pen to bail them out. Imagine going to a casino knowing that you can never lose money. We've seen this movie before. I hope this time Americans will rise up against bail outs for these government welfare leeches.

If you don't have a trade-in with crazy resale value these trucks are unobtainable. They're giving us $71K trade toward a $89K truck. I'm financially comfortable but without that kind'a deal NFW would I pay what they are asking. It's crippling. Add $90 a month for every % of interest rate as well,,, remember that. That $71K trade -in is a POS is the only reason I'm getting rid of it.

@@Dive-Bar-Casanova You say you're "financially comfortable" ok well, how did you wind up with negative equity like that? We lost our almost paid off Mitsubishi last November to a deer accident. So we needed to buy something and I didn't look forward to buying anything at that time because I knew the used and new car market was nuts. Best thing I could find was a 2023 Kia Soul LX for $22k. Toyota and Honda didn't have much inventory and what they had on the lot was way overpriced. So we took the $10k equity check from the Mitsubishi and put it towards the $22k Kia. We had $60k in the bank in cash at the time and we could have purchased anything we wanted but the $22k Kia gets us around so I'm just trying to fathom your situation with a vehicle that costs several tens of thousands of dollars. I checked online to see the Kia's value and even though the 2023 doesn't come up in KBB because I guess they don't have enough data yet, pricing it as a 2022 with the same miles it comes back over $19k trade in and $21k private party which is insane but means we have plenty of equity so we can trade out if we wanted to but we tend to keep our cars for at least 10 years.

Think about this, in 1969 a brand new Cadillac cost was between $6,000.00 and $8,000.00 I was the guy that slapped the Sticker Price on the New Cadillacs, and Pickup trucks was as cheap as $2,000 and $3,000, brand new. Update: Ford Motor have given a warning to the Dealerships, Ford Motor did not approve of or OK the Dealerships to raise prices on their vehicles! It's is also noted that Ford's main reason for so many Trucks being parked away and not being sold is the company fail to purchase chips from China, G.M is one Company that beat them to it. Ford had about 40,000 or more trucks sitting with no "CHIPS" no CHIPs no sale! It's appears that some parts of this story is not factual.

Well... IF the union workers actually worked, the company might have better products, but for those of us that know union workers in Dearborn, we know they clock in, sneak out to Hooters, drink beer and eat wings for the next 7 hours, then go clock out and go home. Then, when the week's at it's end and their production goals aren't met, they get called in for OT, time and a half on Saturday, double time on Sunday, and that's when they actually try to catch up. Weird how companies that are non-union (Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Audi, Mecedes Benz) how so much better quality than the Hooters crowd, eh?

Barry Ulrich - Don't pay attention to the grandstanding socialists propagandists. The severe inflation and every plunging, nearly worthless US dollar value has quickly pushed good quality hard assets out of reach in price. Bank accounts and retirement accounts have lost 10-12% and falling. For example after the Democrats waged all out war on the US energy industry and created major shortages, California governor announced he was going to end the "price gouging" on gas prices and go after refiners. Short supply + big demand = high prices. Homes and vehicles costs + low earning power with virtually no spendable income of working class = severe austerity. But wait, there is hope! The government will come to the rescue, right?

Ford does special orders for commercial pickup trucks that have an 8 foot bed and only three seater. But you have to order that online, fill out the application at the dealership and then wait 5 months for the “special order” to arrive at the dealership. And that is why contractors are choosing older trucks instead of newer trucks.

It is a lot, but you have to factor in that an EV should last almost 2X the lifespan of an ICE. A friend has a Tesla Model X and he's rounding 200,000 miles and the car still looks new-ish. Aside from tires, he told me the maintenance has been next to nothing.
@cariwaldick4898

@@tswrench I'm not buying that. It's going to depreciate--no matter how well made. My in-laws have an older Prius, and they've had to replace the battery--which was over two thousand dollars. They're retired, and trying not to need a new car. Cars and trucks are made to be used, which means they're going to get damaged, and parts will wear out. Charging for a car as if it's a small house is ridiculous. You could call Uber a LOT before you spend 100K. What I'm waiting to see, is when these car manufacturers start charging monthly fees for features and upgrades. Want parking assist? Pay the fee. Want heated seats turned on? Pay the fee. This is the plan they're already counting on, so they can continue to steal money from people who buy from them.

@@cariwaldick4898 -- Of course these EVs depreciate, just like all cars depreciate: as soon as you drive 'em off the lot. However, if you're accustomed to spending between $35K and $45K for a vehicle, and an EV outlasts it by 3X, then then the difference in pricing is a wash. I'm not running out to buy anything in the $70K and up range, though. I'll bide my time and strike when the market is right. As of today, I've only seen 4 Rivian R1Ts on the road, but I inspected one up close, and they are impressive. There are fewer parts on an EV, requiring far less maintenance, with hardly any fluids to speak of. They can build a much stronger, more ride-stabilized vehicle when they're not having to shoe horn a bunch of junk into an engine bay, and muck around with exhaust and EC systems. $2000 for a battery isn't that steep. I paid around $1100 for a fuel pump, water pump and window motor/regulator for my F-150. Besides, Tesla's "million mile battery" will be available in 2 to 4 years from now, and others will follow suit. You are right about the a la carte pricing structure, or value-added functionality. Self-driving features on Teslas don't come standard, and .they don't come cheap, neither. I imagine that emerging competition within the marketplace will iron that out. Hell, the Rivians just got something like a 20% or better range increase with an over the air software tweak. We are in the very early stages of this revolution--the bleeding edge--so to speak. And, there's a mania revolving around EV Trucks at the moment (the worst time to buy). I believe there will be a lot more innovation coming down the pike where EVs and other alternate types of vehicles are concerned, and consumers will eventually regain the upper hand in the market. Timing is everything. Choose wisely.

I ordered a Maverick in summer 2021 and it got to the lot in fall 2022. Everyone was sharing horror stories about dealership markups that they wouldn’t budge on. I was so worried they were gonna add $10k to the sticker price and let someone else buy it if I backed out (was common apparently). Luckily I didn’t experience that. Same price paid was same price at order. Local dealership, from what I have seen and heard, has honored all upfront pricing with new orders. They also don’t have a lot full of unsold trucks bc they know that’s not how you keep a business running. It sucks to see so many others using the supply chain problems as a way to rob customers, but it is not a universal problem. I only wish Ford built more vehicles in the US but I guess that’s a different issue.

Sad for CO, but I'm happy because we will cash out in 10-15 more years...maybe our place will be up to $1,000,0000...I don't need a fancy house or area...and there will always be cheaper locations in the US and cheaper living overseas. Cash out and live like a king in some island country *shrug*

I don't work in the auto industry but i'd say the drop in quality is a sure sign that they never had a good quality system in place to begin with, just a quality culture that was being maintained by senior employees. A lot of companies lost a lot of good people during COVID; people retired, people changed industries, people re-evaluated what they wanted. And companies that didn't actually have systems in place but were instead relying on their senior staff have this same drop-off in quality.

I sold my 33 year old medium size manufacturing company last July. Did well. I had the reputation of being the problem solver and best of the best on quality and consistency. It was simple for me: there is right and wrong with nothing in between. That was instilled right down to the newest employee. New ownership is failing: lost all major customers,huge employee turnover,and quality went down the toilet. The new mantra is it's good enough and let the customer figure it out....If they make through the end of this year it will be a miracle. Ford's problems are just way too common now.

They averted it by begging people to not charge their EVs and asking them to turn off their home A/C. Without more grid capacity the rest of the country will be experiencing the same problems. How about that hybrid maverick that was supposed to have a $22k base price at launch a couple years ago. I thought that would be a hit, but they seem to be vaporware, none of the dealerships have them in stock and the price today if you can even get a dealer to accept an order is 28k, which doesn’t sound too bad, except for the fact it is about 25% more than the MSRP just 2 years ago. And that is for a truck that doesn’t have the reliability, fuel economy or features of a Prius LE. Still, I could buy 2-3 mavericks for the price of one F150, if there were rows of mavericks on dealer lots priced at around 30k with options, I have a feeling dealerships would be turning a lot more inventory.

At the kind of prices we're talking about nowadays, I can get luxury mid to high end car easily. Juice just isn't worth the squeeze. I'd rather buy an old beater at this point and drive it once in a blue moon for hauling home depot runs and leftovers from home reno projects. It started with mandating air bags. The big 3 lobbied for these because it's cheaper to manufacture in all than to have R&D for options.
