It was time to hook up the trailer and try out our first trip strapping the scooter to the trailer and hoping we came back with it still on the back :))
Once strapped on to the side load trailer (from CMF Trailers) it was also time to see what it was like to reverse as we are now over 9 metres in total so we went and found a QUIET car park!!!
This is shaping up to be a fantastic trailer for the scooter and we are very much looking forward to finding hotter countries with Peggy the scooter in tow this year :))

The straps that secure your back end are effectively forcing the front tyre into the wheel holding assembly, so don’t change a thing. The handlebars are being secured nicely and as long as they are secured further by ratchet straps either side I don’t think your scooter is going anywhere. Love the trailer, we have one that loads our scooter on length ways, I think yours is much neater. Enjoy and stay safe

Thanks David and it does seem to have been pretty stable and a great trailer. I don't really like that heandle bar steady as it has worn the cover and I worry about it damaging the grips (I've replaced one from CMPO already - super easy and cheap) so I'm going to experiment with handlebar tie downs (ratcheted) which I think will be less hard on the bars and take off that support bar. Do you know of a really good quality cover? Our first Oxford one was shredded by the wind !! The French one we got was excellent but then holed by the bar support :( So could do with finding a decent thicker UK supplier before we travel!

@@motorhomingadventures I’ll take a look in the garage later today or tomorrow and get back to you. I’ve had the same handle bar restraining strap for several years and always been happy with it.

Ho Bob, I would suggest that you put the strap through the spokes on the front wheel and strap the handlebars down to compress the suspension forks. Looking good for your future travels. All the best Drew & Linda 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Many thanks for that Drew - we’ll give that a test - it needs something to hold the scooter up against that from wheel stop - as you suggest. Very much looking forward to some 30 degree scootering!! 😁☀️

You should be able to buy a sleeve that grips & curves around the front tyre that your straps thread through + I would also use rubber chocks for both wheels with straps = overall less vibration & slippage.

Many thanks for that Phil and very glad you're taking the plunge too - it gives us a lot more options for Europe this year albeit a bit more expensive in the Tunnel. CMF were great - say hello to them for me :))

Hi, just watched your video loading Peggy on the trailer..... very good, thoroughly enjoy your adventures. With regards to strapping Peggy on trailer, just thought I'd pass on some advice, as a recovery driver in mid Wales who picks up a fair few motorbikes during the year lol..... the strap you had on the drivers side was perfect tbh, and with that brilliant bracket that clamps to the handlebars, you really don't need that blue strap on the front. If you put a strap on the nearside rear of the bike, same as off side, that will be ample as both the straps will be strapping the bike down and forward into the front wheel cradle, and that brilliant handlebar bracket will keep the bike upright and stable. Hope this helps, keep on making the great videos 😊.

We have a 400 Peugeot trike, We have a winch and cause you can fix it upright it’s so easy to get on the trailer. As far as straps go I’d use a wheel strap pulling the front wheel (s) into the chock and then as you’ve done with the rear. So long as it doesn’t rub or fly off then great. We have some heavy fluffy covers that go on the straps to protect all the bodywork. Great video subbed.

Many thanks indeed for that, much appreciated! I do like those 3 wheeled scooters - the Peugeot 400 is a great example of those. Always fancied a Goldwing Trike but that’s a little bit heavier than Peggy and your 400 😂 Did you make your fluffy covers or buy them? Sounds interesting for our set up. Thanks for the strapping advice too - our current tour of France and Spain is helping to finalise the fixing of Peggy 😁👍

Hi Guys Very interested in your post as i picked up the very same trailer about a month after you got yours. One thing i found is that the ratchet straps I used had a shallow hooks and they detached themselves from the trailer after about 20 miles, i noticed the blue strap maybe the same type as mine, ive since replaced them with deeper hooks with no further issues. One other thing on the end of the handlebar clamp there is a eye which you can put a light strap (not the ratchet type) down to the lower hooks on the trailer, its just added insurance but dont overtighten this one. Hope you have lots of fun on your travels. David & Karen

Hi Dave and Karen and many thanks for watching and for your feedback which is much appreciated 😁 I’m not using the blue one now as, I agree, they weren’t as substantial so I’ve got 3 of those black ones now 👍 Noted re the handlebar eye too and thanks for that. Next stop the Alps very soon 🎉🎉☀️

Would be much better with three ramps , two either side of centre ramp and it would be safe to ride cycle onto trailer with feet able to touch the ramps either side to keep bike in upright position .

Hi Bob. I'm looking for a neat as possible solution to transport my Triumph and 2 electric mountain bikes behind our A class. Using a longitudinal trailer means adding between 3 and 3.5m to my 6.3m vehicle (not great for aires although it has a short overhang) so I've just started speaking to CMF about amending one of their units to fit my Thule 591 bike carrier either side of the motorbike or either side of the upright. Now you've had yours for a while, how do you find reversing overall as I've seen lost of comments around it being a nightmare? I'm guessing they are just very sensitive to small adjustments?I've seen the castor type versions but either very expensive or there are too many other compromises. Thanks
@motorhomingadventures
@motorhomingadventures 23 күн бұрын
Evening Ged and that sounds a good idea as it’s only about 1.6m back from the van. CMF can do the full chequer plate base for our version which would enable the electric bikes to be added in the way you describe. I used to have an L200 with a twin axle Ifor Williams trailer which was about 3.5m back but this little CMF one is easier to handle as it needs such little input which is ideal on sites to get it backed in etc. I have to say in Europe there were just about always pitches you could just drive into anyway if you asked 😀 With a good reversing camera it’s very straightforward. I looked at the castor version but didn’t like it’s instability when NOT attached to the van whereas the CMF version can be detached while loaded - and pushed v carefully !! (Main weight is forward of the axle) The castor version was also more complicated to put together than the quick hitch up of CMF. CMF can store upright for minimal space use. Personally- CMF style every time!! 😀

Hi Malcolm, Thats the standard Fiat Xzent radio unit with integral sat nav. It has a button on it 'Camera' that allows you to select that as the default display (as opposed to a radio display or a 'Aux' unit etc. All those other functions work fine when the rear camera is showing. There is a guy in our Mobilvetta Owners club on Facebook that has a business adding all these things as well, if you didn't have the display like ours, so if you wanted more info on those additions let me know and I'll pass on his details Many thanks for watching :)

@motorhomingadventures
@motorhomingadventures Ай бұрын
@llandennyfyl Yes been abroad to France and Spain and went very smoothly - no interest at all from border staff - no one has even looked under the cover yet and because it only 1.6m out the back it didn’t add much onto the costs at all. All the European sites had big enough pitches to leave the trailer on - which means it stays locked to van so safe and secure. Really pleased with it 👍

Thanks for watching Ray 😁 We wanted something that would manage 2 people well without struggling on big hills. My old 125 (years ago) wasn’t really a two person bike for that reason but I guess anything 200ish upwards should manage two comfortably. This 300 Pegasus will accelerate up hills, if you needed to, with us both on so does the job well. As a ‘twist and go’ it’s also very easy to ride!! If you’re in a position to test ride before buying that would be the ideal way to choose.

Wife and I have been using a Vespa px 125 for 10 years on the back/garage/trailer of our motorhomes, 4 speed manual, can be fixed by anyone (when needed,ours has never broken down) put a backrest rack makes it supremely comfortable for the pillion, a front rack and a semi rigid bag on both racks you can carry loads of shopping/beach kit etc 90 plus kilo without racks bags etc and we have ridden ours in the Pyrenees and alps plus you have a spare wheel, change and go when you get a puncture, no waiting for garage AA to come and rescue you, ok it’s not fast and it’s a 2t but lite economical and a blast to ride. Have fun with whatever you choose, a must addition to any motorhome.
