I bought a cheap one to put my boat in the water but after a full service, a thorough clean, and polished all the paint fade back to a shine, it's become my daily. I really thought the paint was too far gone and was one the reason I got it so cheap but had no peeling just chalky and faded but came up like new. I've got a new steel trans pan and filter and some blade arms ready to fit. Just researching about exhaust set ups for a bit of growl. Anyway, drives like a dream and love it.

I've owned my FG2 XR6 from new. I highly recommend getting the ZF transmission serviced every couple of years. Ford recommend that they don't need servicing, after 100k I thought mine was starting to get "lazy" between shifts. The transmission service made it so much better. The rest is normal Falcon/Falcon based stuff that comes with age.

Hey Shawn, Sounds more like tyres that would be making that noise rather than the wheel bearings to me. Those Goodyears are only good for one thing, put them on the BA and use them as burnout tyres.

Optilife SUV tyres are utter garbage. Our territory had them when we bought it. Shocking in the wet. Super noisy, and they felt unbalanced even when almost new. Cannot stress this enough, ditch them and get something decent and it’ll feel like a different car. A guy I work with who used to be at a tyre shop said they knew they were a shocking tyre, and were hard to balance right out of the box, but they had to sell them anyway..

@@sean-mccarthy I can confirm they are shit, They were on my 2015 TS when i bought it on the rears... And they are dangerous asf in the wet and even in the dry when you are doing 90+ they almost feel like they are constantly sliding out.

I wouldn't sweat the maintenance, in that most modern cars, even Toyotas, will need some work after 11 years. What makes the difference is how much, and the Terri, like a number of proper Japanese and the Hyundai/Kia twins, will be relatively cheap to keep going vs say non Commodore Holdens, European based Fords, anything Euro, etc. Plus as the Terri shares a number of components with the BF and FG Falcons, parts will be easy to find.

Glad to see you're still enjoying the SZ. Ours is still going well too! Driver's window started giving us problems so I went straight to the spare switches I had 'in-stock' (thanks to your advice) but turned out to be the regulator. (I also had one 'in stock' LOLz!) re: Tyres; If you can afford them, we have had nothing but joy from the Continental UC6's. VERY sure-footed in the wet. We also have a strange noise/vibration which I haven't figured out in nearly 3 years. Well it hasn't gotten worse and nothing has fallen off, so I guess it's just a little 'character'... Looking forward to your 2025 update... ($5 says you replace the rear glass hinges by then)

Continental UC6 SUVs, are night and day different, even on a foggy day the back end would step out on the AWD, compared to what was on before. For a long time, the only good tyre was the Goodyear Fortera, everything else wasn't close, and if you put them on issues went away.

SZ territories are ridiculously solid MONOCOQUE vehicles. They have extra bracing & sheetmetal over the falcon which was renowned for body durability. The ZF6 is an awesome transmission, it never lugs the motor & is very load sensitive (kicking up a couple gears whenever coasting on the flat). The territory was no world beater but it built on its forbearers fundamentals & is a worthy blue oval mention! 👍

8.4L/100km twice on cruisy weekend trips in my Barra SZ. On dead flat roads at 100kph it's showing mid 7's which reflects Fords figures. Throw in a hill and some acceleration to cruising speed.... pretty damn good. Diesel run quietly will do low 6's. They are impressive wagons.

We took a rwd SY around Australia back in the day, towing a full sized evernew caravan. Stuck to the blacktop, of course. I got the oem transmission oil cooler fitted before we left pretty cheaply. Only issue we had was the rear tyres needing replacing on our return - after fitting new ones all round before we left. The car was faultless overall.

We’ve got a 2013 diesel territory , it’s been a great vehicle ,and l do all my own servicing on it , change the oil and filter every 10k ( 7k if lm towing ) , do the fuel and air filter every 2nd service . It’s done 220k now and hasn’t had any major issues , lve had a tow tune / egr delete done a few years ago , all the bushes , ball joints and suspension done , autos been serviced a few times , also got a Eaton tru trac limited slip installed ( found the traction control pretty useless around our property etc ) . It’s still on the original fuel tank pump and tail shaft ( though it’s starting to get a vibration under acceleration above 80kph , got to look into it ) Added a nudge bar and 7” driving lights which work great . I’m actually tossing up whether to sell it or not atm as l had gifted it to my son in Melbourne last year as he’s in a band and needed a bigger vehicle at the time , but he’s since returned it as he’s partner got an suv so they’re just going to use that , in the meantime ld bought a Touareg for myself so now lve got too many vehicles to pay reg and insurances on ……

They’re made for prestige makes in mind not mass market cars. The fluid alone costs a bomb and rebuilding is not a realistic proposition. You better make sure it’s well kept and not abused like selecting drive while it’s still moving forward like a guy I knew used to always do. Just remember the German word for stop halt before moving the t bar.

Phillips do a range of LED bulbs that perfectly replicate the halogen bulb. As in the LED is positioned exactly where the halogen filament is on the factory bulb. These are being approved in the EU for use in a growing list of cars the had Halogen bulbs. The even better thing is that the light throw is far better focused. With a halogen, light is emitted everywhere. The LED provides a far better focus of the light produced into the reflective surfaces. Far less dispersed light going where it’s not required. The Phillips Ultinon Access bulbs are the same external dimensions as the halogen. They fit in the same space. No modifications required. Just swap the bulb as you would when the regular one needs replacing. It’s that easy. No drivers. No cutting. No nothing. Of course you should adjust your headlights afterwards. The LED Phillips Ultinon bulbs are not distracting to other drivers at all.

Had an SY for a couple of years; did western Vic to QLD run a few times, including pulling a caravan. Also a Nullabor run. No issues at all. Have had a 2014 SZ Barra now for five years, have replaced starter, battery and, last week, the tyres. Window switches play up due to carbon build-up, easy enough to dismantle and clean, but it is a common issue. Back end's getting a bit crashy, suspect it's the bushes but will have that checked. Other than that, at 143K it's fine and averaging 13L/100 km overall around the city, considerably less on a run, about 10L/per. It's a comfortable, capable and reliable vehicle. 👍

We have an SZ Titanium RWD best combination in my opinion. We had an SY Turbo Ghia which I did a full rebuild on engine and suspension running 15 PSI boost and while it was fun it was a pig to live with forever tearing tearing the front CV boots and as Grandmas daily who does 20 k plus a year I got fed up with having to work on it everything is harder in the engine bay with the AWD system. The RWD SZ is a breeze and has responded well to the standard NA mod with the car now exceeding 10 Lts per KM highway use. Mods are Pacemaker 4490 extractors 100cell cat FG XR8 air box “it has to model a bit” K&N ruiethuim Plugs Catch can and a PCM Dyno tune. It’s no turbo but it’s a very easy car to live with and my wife loves it. Keep up your work on the channel mate I like your strategy for adding the turbo on the AU not sure weather the 1000 CC injectors are necessary I was conned into fitting to the Territory turbo by the DYNO tuner after CAPA had already supplied 465 CC injectors for the build. It had crow cam 20 thou JE pistons venom Cat ect and to me it was always running rich for the record it had 345 Kw on the axels with 751 NMs. Maybe with the halted over the standard ECU you will tune that out Cheers mate

For me, upgrading to the diesel Territory came about because of constant issues with the coil packs on my BA. Critics of the diesel will often comment on parts failing in the engine, but will neglect the coil pack issues that plagued many BA Falcons. I was on my third set by the time I traded my BA in for the Territory. Other than that, the main issues I have with mine is the tailgate/window hinge. I've just made the executive decision to not use the window any longer. It was a great idea, but poorly implemented by way of hinges that crack and warp too easily, and hinges that work their way loose.

I to bought a Territory (2006) Mine also developed a clunk at the rear especially after sudden bumps in the road. The bushes have supposedly been done but i think I'll check the shockies now! Mine doesn't seem to uses oil or water. After 12 months my engine bay is still clean. So was my AU. Mine also has had its issues. (very annoyingly). Needed a new key and programming 350$ gone. Still has ignition barrel issues and looks like it needs to replace the column to fix it. The key springs back to the off position unless you finagle it just right. I also just replaced a front wheel bearing. It apparently fell apart as the mechanic pulled it apart. Another 400$ gone. Mine was so subtle a noise i though it was just road noise from a higher ground clearance car to what i was used to plus mine is a AWD so i thought it was just extra road noise but it got louder over the last few months. However as bad as it was it still drive straight and no vibrations.

Carbon build up on the contacts inside the switch? Really easy to fix if you confident enough to open the switch up, clean up the contacts and put back together. And the fog lights - definitely looks better but worth pointing out you've negated the point of the fog lights. They are yellow as that color penetrates fog instead of bouncing back at you. But, I'm sure you know that 🙂

The zf6 sister gearbox in the diesel is also awesome and extremely responsive. I drive lots of mountains and hills, and it does most of the slowing down for bends without braking. The diesel off the line as well kills the 4 pot turbos too!! Lol I do admit not as awesome as a Barra, but I am glad I've got a diesel ford my lead foot syndrome! It costs a fair bit more in a Barra.

The diesel gearbox is slightly different to the petrol, and can experience more issues apparently. In the end I bet it all comes back to lack of maintenance.

Also, about the ZF6 speed, I get much better fuel economy out of this combination with the Barra than my 5 speed 3.8 6G75 Mitsubishi 380 by a fair bit which was surprising. The 380 is actually slightly better on the highway on long trips but around town the Territory is much better.

Almost every time I see the front end of the Ford Territory it always reminds me of the later model Volkswagen's built from around 2019 bit bit like the front end styling having a bit of a mix of styling from the 2019 Golf for the front grill with a bit of the ford styling added to the front end of a 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan. Also the Ford Territory sound a bit like owning a Jeep when it comes down to putting extra money into it for maintenance. But for old Jeeps with the 4.0L straight 6 the parts aren't too expensive to buy for the common faults which are mainly pretty simple to fix. My 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee has with the 4.0L straight 6 AMC engine has over 400,000 km on it and it's still going strong. Though comparing my 98 Jeep to the Ford SZ Territory for styling the Jeep is the more stylish one to pick for for looks. Also the Grand Cherokee more more comparable to the Fairmont's when it come down to luxury.

I knew someone with a diesel and it was fine other than part costs. Last I heard he was $10k+ down in mechanical costs. he got it as a runout dealership model but everything barring a trans issue seemed pretty routine, do with that info what you will. There's a bigger reason I won't get one: long term wrecker parts. Our family's had a good history keeping Falcons past the 300,000km mark, and wrecker parts are the difference between keeping a car and it becoming a 2 tonne garden gnome, so I'd be eyeing off a SYII so I can poach what I need from 7 years worth of SUVs and 10 years worth of motor. Good to hear the addage I heard from a mate still rings true though: Territory's are just Falcons you can mount gutters with

Even from the B series, 450cc batteries were the minimum to start the car, but put in a nice 5-660cc or better and a lot of problems went away.

@wobblysauce Not as bad as the FG, as the B series worked with 2 different communications systems and not as complex as the FG. Usually the flashing "P" on the cluster for an auto car was a sign of a dying battery.

I have a 2007 territory with 307,500kms on it. I got it for free and have spent $4500 on repairs. It’s had its fair share of issues. A lot of the ones you mentioned as well. I’ve got it to a point I’m happy with now. In my territory, it had the whoop whoop sound kinda like a helicopter. I ignored it and then on a road trip from Sydney to Gold Coast the front left wheel bearing went. It sucked. It’s so cheap to replace. Just get it done man. Not worth it.

I did like our territory but I had two main issues with it 1. The ride was actually uncomfortable when sitting in the back seats 2. Front passenger space was compromised too much with a rearward facing car seat behind obviously due to the dash design with the straight 6. Ride and handling for the driver was great but being a passenger wasn’t great for me

The front wheel drive Kluger shown in the picture is before 2010. You'd likely find them cheaper than the SZ Territory, especially in Sydney because the V6 of earlier years are renowned for variable valve timing issues and a host of other early model gremlins you'd see facebook group people would post.

@@MotoringBoxTV That price could be because the owner knows replacement parts are more plentiful in the long term as well as well as that most mid spec models and higher have three row air con from the roof as opposed to near the floor.

You're still going to get a diesel Santa Fe Highlander for $10k to $13k. I found ours to be bullet proof and it was loaded with features plus outstanding fuel economy. I do always follow a better service interval than the recommended 12 month /15,000km. Not quite the amount of legroom as the Ford. But overall much better built. Some mungo crashed into us and wrote it off. Now in a diesel Platinum YP Carnival. Far more expensive, but totally different ball game if you want practicality with 3 grommys.
