I just finished replacing the entire braking system (except for the rigid brake lines from the master cylinder to the wheel wells) in my daughter's '88 740T sedan. My father-in-law bought it new in 1988, and it's been in the family ever since. 180k miles and going strong! I've upgraded the suspension and installed an apple carplay receiver, but it's otherwise super original. It's a looker!

My mother had a 1989 740 Turbo wagon. She wasn't kind to that car at all, like all her cars. She bought it at 8yrs old with 138k miles and sold it at 224k miles. All it needed in that time was an alternator and a coolant hose. It didn't leak a drop of any fluid. Extremely solid car overall. She loved it so much that she replaced it with a 1995 940 sedan in 2006.

Somebody find Mr. Hood and ask him if he still has the Volvo!

Btw if you can find an identical version of this Volvo that has a manual transmission you have found the holy grail! I currently drive a 2005 Honda CRV with the stick shift myself and that’s the holy Grail for SUVs during that time with a stick shift. It’s a very elusive find if you’re ever able to find a one owner, clean title no accidents and festival no rust example of one meticulously maintain since it was purchased brand new and is immaculate inside. Despite the fact that it’s always lived up here in the northeastern part of the USA. I couldn’t believe it myself and for that reason I just had to buy it. I love it I really do.

This may be a little late but Cameron your left brake light isn't working! lol Btw, the hood, trunk lid, doors etc. aren't aluminum - they're Zincrometal - as is most of the car.

Great car! And not to worry all of the leaks and what not under the hood are all very easily fixable on this car! In fact these are one of the most simplest vehicles ever made for the average DIYer to work on!

You tell ‘em! Cool that turbo down! Open the hood and blow on it! Fan it off! 😅

I've owned three Volvo's and loved the P2 and P3 generations. Current Volvo's are no where near as good as the older ones, quality and reliability have fallen through the floor, sadly. I attribute that to Volvo's new ownership.

Not sure about his claim of aluminium content! I know for certain the bonnet wasn't aluminium on the 740 (it was on the face lift 760 though).

As I had a Volvo Master technician explain to me in '88 or so most of the ticking sound that you hear is the fuel injectors opening and closing.

You should only cool the turbo if your pushing on it not after a long drive , so he’s right about not pushing on it when cold but wrong on when it’s hot
