Interesting. But if you're gonna attach a sprocket straight to the spoke intersections, expect problems sooner or later. Spokes can break from seemingly no good reason already on a proper build. Attaching a bolted on sprocket to the intersection crossovers is only gonna cause undue stresses on the spokes and also spoke rubbing wear and tear, those aren't flush surfaces. Also, don't assume anything about the bolt pattern, different rims have different spoke counts, one such spoke count is 28, which doesn't divide by 6 or 9, it divides by 7. People, if you're gonna modify your bicycles, don't make any assumptions about videos such as this one, do all your own measurements CAREFULLY. Measure 3 times and cut once is what most experienced builders will tell ya, for good reason. Edit: Also make sure you don't have the exhaust coming right onto your tires. Not saying this happened in the original video, just saying it's another thing you should look out for if trying similar modifications yourself. I feel there should have been more safety and common sense engineering information posted along with this video.

Aye, this is the part that actually has me worried. There must be better options than this one floating around. Spokes are the most critical part of the bicycle, stressing them under the full power of a motor doesn't sound like a clever idea.

Yes, he did indeed do an awesome build, didn't he! 👍👍 I don't know if you've ever seen the kits you can buy, but many of them sandwich a sprocket and a couple pieces of rubber on the spokes and they do seem to work. 🤔

I have a full suspension mountain bike with a Poulan/Husqvarna chainsaw engine mounted mid frame. It used to use the rear derailleur, definitely not recommended, but it works pretty well. Gonna do some more mods later, it already has a headlight, taillight and turn signals. I'm going to change the gear ratio, love your build here.

@kenannon56042 жыл бұрын
Bolting the sprocket to the spokes is usually a big no-no. Most spokes are not designed to take that abuse. Also, getting the sproket to be aligned true can be nearly impossible and can also lead to problems if it's not straight.

The first bike has a gear ratio of about 4.5 to one. So if the engine is at 4500rpm the wheel is spinning 1000 rpm. So the 26 in wheel has a circumference of about 82 inches which would travel about 6666 feet per minute, times 60 minutes and divide by 5280 ft come to about 75mph. The max speed of this 25.4cc engine is likely less than 30mph? which would put this engine at about 2000 rpm. What am I missing? without a jackshaft with extra reduction these types of vehicles have a gearing almost the diameter of the wheel. Think of a friction drive bike which will have a roller less than 2 inch diameter, spinning an the circumference of the entire tire.
