In a recent interview to MotorTrend, Acura boss Jon Ikeda re-confirmed the architecture in question is not related to the Honda CR-V, something we heard for the first time in Detroit earlier this year, when the brand revealed the RDX prototype. “It’s its own platform,” Ikeda told the publication. “We always think of efficiencies, but in the end, it’s about building the right product. The touchpad is second nature after a couple of days and you dont need a touch screen, plus it’s easier/safer because you don’t take your eyes off the road as much. Thanks for the follow up review. Based on your last RDX review I test drove it and shifted from deciding between an X3 or GLB and bought the Acura. The RDX feels absolutely luxurious compared to the much smaller BMW / MB interiors, and none of the hard black plastic. One point worth highlighting, my wife is not a car person and doesn’t care to drive if she can avoid it, but she loves the RDX! She finds it very easy and confident inspiring. I agree a touch screen would be great, but I picked up the touch pad in about 3 days. My only wish would be more towing capacity, it’s low for this segment.

The Acura RDX is the BEST car in this class for the value. It has a very high crash safety rating for IHHS. The headlights have one of the best ratings as well. Has automatic high beams too. The space is incredible & the under cargo floor space is a bonus. This platform is so unique to Acura that the Acura engineers consider this to have a sporty platform with little commonality to the Honda CR-V. The ELS Studio 3D sound system is a must have for any body who loves to hear music. 16 speakers & 710 watts of power is incredible. Panasonic & Elliot Scheiner the Grammy award winning producer engineered this sound system with 4 of the speakers in the roof to create a 3D sound! The A-Spec version is the best value. Hopefully, Acura will include the RDX with an S Type version to play with the German SUV’s. The steering mounted controls for the driver means you don’t have to use the track pad while driving for some controls. The K20 engine is an incredible engine with a version in the Honda Civic Type R. Acura is back to its roots for great handling cars. The SH-AWD is off the charts in how it helps oversteer the back wheels on each side in a turn. It feels like the back wheels are steering you thru the corner. The value & quality for this price is are hard to beat. German rivals are much more expensive. The A-Spec rims are actually dark grey. The pano roof is amazing & is standard. I also own a 2005 Acura TSX, is one of the best handling & reliable cars. The RDX is like a TSX grown up with SH-AWD & a turbo engine. Acura is bringing back the Integra name plate & really is building high quality products. I test drove the RDX & within 2 blocks, I was so amazed at the handling, that I bought a 2020 Acura RDX A-Spec last year. No reliability issues, has been awesome. So, we are an Acura household.

The RDX with the A-spec package is the trim that I would like even though its not much more than a an appearance package. I like all of the soft materials used around the dash and lower portions, even though its leatherette. The 10 spd transmission is a great unit that I'm familiar with. My 2019 Accord has the same 2.0t engine as well. I find that the 10spd transmission can at times run up and down gears when going up small grades on the road. I find if I leave it out of economy mode the transmission doesn't do it as much. The other great quality about the Acura RDX, is Honda reliability. That alone is reason enough for many loyal customers to keep coming back for a new generation. Not too much to complain about with a vehicle that offers great value and Honda ingenuity.

● The system is confusing to use even when the RDX is parked, and it’s very distracting for drivers when the car is moving. For example, they’re forced to look at the screen to execute common audio tasks, and some adjustments are buried deep in submenus. We think it requires too much concentration, multiple steps and extended time with eyes off the road and hand off the wheel. It’s one of the worst systems that we’ve encountered recently. ●Braking performance is strong but the brake pedal has a spongy feel. The suspension quashes most bumps, but we found the ride to be rather firm and choppy. The cabin is quiet, barring a somewhat grainy engine noise. ●We got 22 mpg overall in our tests, which is average for the category, and no better than what we measured with the V6 in the previous-generation RDX. This figure also trails the performance from competitors’ small turbo engines, such as Audi, BMW, and Lexus. ●posting 52 mph through the course. Acura makes a big deal about its Super Handling AWD, which only comes into play when drivers accelerate through a corner. ●Most bumps are absorbed well, but the RDX has a jittery feel over rougher roads and on long drives. ●Most of the time the cabin is very quiet, but a coarse engine hum punches through under acceleration. It’s acceptable when driving aggressively, but annoying in everyday driving ●The brake pedal feels as if it isn’t responding at first, and it requires a bit of effort, which can make the driver feel less-than-confident. ●Although it’s nicely finished, the materials and build quality don’t quite match the best SUVs in this class. For example, the storage cubbies aren’t lined, there were some uneven panel gaps on the center console, and one of the dash vents didn’t move as freely as the others. Finally, there are plenty of soft-touch surfaces throughout the cabin, but the material on the upper dash and window sill is quite thin. ●The RDX’s controls are among the worst we’ve experienced. There is a steep learning curve to use the infotainment system, but it is still distracting and confusing to execute common audio functions even after drivers have some familiarity. The system is slow to load after the initial start up. Consumer Reports

I recently traded in my 2021 Acura RDX (SH-AWD + Technology) after 3 months of ownership. The reason being the shallow hatch height of 30”, which prevented me from putting in a full-size dog crate that’s 31” tall, and could not fit even my medium-sized mountain bike within the hatch area. These are just regular use cases and Acura’s design team need to be fired for not considering these. The 2022 MDX, a much larger vehicle, also has the same 30” hatch height problem. For comparison, the Honda CRV’s hatch is 36” tall (a sheer marvel in packaging) and the Honda Pilot and Honda Passport have 33-34” of hatch height. I now own a 2021 Honda Passport Touring, which meets all of my utility vehicle needs……can easily fit the dog crate, can easily swallow up the mountain bike. Having said that, Acura is not the only culprit here…….the Subaru Ascent, the Subaru Forester, the Subaru Crosstrek, the Toyota RAV4 are all in the unusably shallow hatch height category and it is a shame to call these utility vehicles, if they cannot cater to such mundane use cases.

The benefits of premium gas for the engine & power out way the cost. Like I say, premium gas is for premium cars. All premium cars take premium gas. Better quality gas, more cleaners for the engine, more power & better fuel mileage. My Acura products only get premium. My lawn mover stopped working & the guy said my fuel line was plugged up from using regular gas. Only premium fuel for my lawnmower & snowblower. You pay for what you get, don’t skimp on the fuel. Using a lower grade of gas will mean less power. I noticed better fuel mileage & better power for passing with premium fuel in turbocharged cars on long trips.

I have the RDX SH-AWD and the Tech package, with the beige interior. I did not want the A-spec, since it does not come with the Beige interior. I really wanted the Advance version (with Beige interior), but not a single Advance package with the Beige interior, was available in a 500 mile radius of where I lived. Not a SINGLE one. So finally settled for the Tech-package version. Does handle well, relative to its size and weight and is reasonably spacious inside, even though tall boxy items (an Extra-large Dog crate) cannot be fitted in well, due to its shallow roof (looks great but loses out on practicality), even when the rear seats are folded down.......a CRV or a Pilot (or even a tiny Honda Fit) can easily swallow them up, of course, due to their well-designed, boxy interior.

Within a few days, I was handed the keys to an Audi Q5 (+50 km road test). The Acura may be a step up from the Honda, but I cannot believe that either of these vehicles (CRV/RDX) are any way on the same league as the Audi. I like the RDX’s style, but at the end of the day... it is just a ‘nicer’ Honda. Which is not a bad thing... its just not for me. Thanks for another well thought out video.

They will apparently come on automatically in the winter, but not in the summer. And when they do come on in the winter, it isn't based on the temperature, it starts on low and stays there. I was looking at purchasing and RDX when they first come out and I went to look at what kind of problems they were having and I was shock the problems it was having. There is a a lawsuit against Acura because their navigations were going blank and the customers said they had to pull over turn the car off and then restart the the car and it would fix the problem until the next time it happen. And Acura could not fix the problem. That was enough for me to keep looking for another car. Thats the problem when new vehicles come out it';s best to wait until they figure out the problems before you buy.

Also, wanted to highlight the fact that the current generation RDX (2019+) is *not* based on the current Honda CRV. The prior generation was. This generation RDX (2019+) is a bespoke platform. Acura officials were particularly highlighting this aspect when the new RDX was introduced in 2018. I am guessing the *next* CRV might base itself on the current-generation RDX, since it makes sense to consolidate platforms.

Sort of sub par performer. Motor Trend says the RDX 2.0T is slower than the 2019 QX50 2.0T with it's new engine from the Accord 2.0T is putting out more in the compact SUV. "...The 268-hp crossover recorded a 0-60 mph time of 6.6 seconds and a 15.1-second quarter mile at 91.6 mph. That's a good bit slower than the last 280-hp Alfa Romeo Stelvio Ti Sport we tested but slightly quicker than the 272-hp Acura RDX A-Spec." So C&D 6.6 second 0-60 mph was correct on calling it a Bspec or Cspec. Even Consumer Reports's 7.0s 0-60 was also correct. No sub 6-second time for RDX 2.0T..

Dan D 7 months ago If you buy a Hyundai be prepared to spend minimum of $175-$500 every month on BS problems you will never experience in a quality car like an Acura. Every other month you will have to replace 1 0f 6 to 8 catalytic converters that go out for no reason like clock work one after the other. One day your CD player will stop working for no reason, you'll need to replace it. Your gas line will need replacing too when your car starts sputtering, then your gas tank that rotted from the inside for no apparent reason. Your check engine light will be on more than it is off. When you finally replace the entire engine and decide you've had enough, and sell it for next to nothing, you'll buy yourself an Acura and realize that it never needs maintenance, that it isn't normal to be without your car every other month because it's in the shop again, and you'll swear like I did to NEVER buy another Hyundai again!!!

However, the RDX is an outstanding SUV, handles like a Sports Sedan. There is no lack of power IMO. I would definitely opt for the Advance model. I did for my 2022 MDX, So glad I did. This RDX and the MDX are the best values in the respective SUV categories. I am a shopper, taking Sy Sym's advice...."an educated Consumer, is my best customer" ( he was talking about men's suits).
