Toyota/Lexus quality has really slipped. My family owns as 2023 RX500h. Had the 12v battery die out of nowhere which was replaced under warranty. 8 months into ownership started having transmission issues (6-speed AT) and issues with the hood thinking it was open. Had to wait over 3 MONTHS for transmission to be replaced as there was no ETA. Car has 26,000kms. Hood latch was defective. Picked the car up after new transmission put it and drove 5kms before it started slipping/stalling again. Many owners are having the same issues and are needing transmissions replaced but has not been a guaranteed fix. Currently fighting Lexus Canada to take this vehicle back. Made a tik tok account demonstrating these issues and finally got Lexus Canadas attention on this. Waiting to see what they’re going to do.

If you are buying a truck that is about to be discontinued I would pick one that was popular. That way you have a better chance of getting parts needed to keep it going. Not sure what the sales numbers were for the Titan. Even though the Toyota Tacoma did a redesign this year that model was pretty much unchanged since its introduction in 2016. There are massive amounts of after market parts and upgrades available for the Taco due to its popularity.

As a Toyota owner I would agree Toyota quality is slipping. Whether its caused by the new power trains, moving a lot of manufacturing outside the US or as I have observed the use of a lot more plastic parts I don't know. I expect the JD Power awards are going to show a drop in Quality but my informal survey shows its a real thing.

Within 2 years they came out with a new Tacoma, new Tundra, new Sequoia, new Land Cruiser, new GX550, new 4Runner, all sharing recently new powertrains. They should have focused on less and ensured quality. Do they really need 4 different body on Frame SUVs?

It is unusual to see Toyota having the problems they are currently. My has a 22 Model 3 and loves it. Yes there is a screen but she is not a techie so she uses the voice commands. Its as easy as press and hold the right button on the steering wheel and ex. Turn cabin temp to 20 degrees and it does it. No fumbling for buttons, both eyes on the road both hands on the steering wheel...beautiful

For anyone considering leasing know this, if you decide to buy it out it will be considered a used car at that point and your interest rates will double or even triple. Leases are designed to make sure you have no equity in the vehicle at the end of the lease and your payments will go up considerably if you decide to finance it going forward. Unless you have the cash to purchase it outright at the end of the lease you’ll be giving it back and starting over

I have a Model Y 2024. I only bought it because of the cheap charging rates in Vancouver, the wife wanted it, and got massive rebates. The interior is garbo lol... And even though I do like the tactility of real buttons while driving, I feel so much more relaxed when I get into the Tesla and choose to drive it as much as possible because I love it so much. We had a 22 RAV4 Hybrid that was a lemon. Giving Toyota one last chance with a 24 Tundra. I totally agree with Zack these engines had to be replaced on the Tundra. Read the owners forums. They die with almost no warning, varying miles and use. They were getting killed in the reviews. Long time car person so I know people vent on forums but the other issues with it turbos, seat problems etc. make me more concerned than in my 12 year old F-150 it replaced. I do wish other manufacturers more clearly posted bed size and made trailer brakes standard like Toyota does.

Hyundai Santa Cruz is the compact truck for those who want a bed, but don't want something that drives like a truck. Maverick is definitely better if you want to feel like you're in a truck ... Santa Cruz makes you forget there's a bed in the back until you need it.

I drove one and HATED it! 1. I didn't like the fact that I had to go into the screen to adjust the mirror. 2. I HATED the regenerative braking. When I take my foot off the accelerator, I expect the vehicle to slow down and coast - NOT come to a screeching halt like I feel when teaching my niece to drive! 3. I HATE the fact that the "price" on Tesla's website shows what your "expected savings" are but then there's another ACTUAL price. 4. I HATE the fact that the longest range is supposedly 402 miles. Yet, this "range" never really comes to fruition. The tests are done in a controlled environment, on a dynometer, on a flat road, with the wind at your back. No Tesla has EVER gone 402 miles on a single charge! 5. I HATE the fact that you have to use the screen to open and close the glove box! My god, let me do SOME things with a physical control or a button!!!!

Do you realize how much money you spend if you lease a car and/or buy a new car every three years. It’s absolutely crazy. A car is not an “investment”! Stop thinking of like that. Car value only goes one way and that’s down. Unless you have a lot of money (which means you can buy outright for cash and not blink an eye) don’t do it. Also, on leasing or buying on time the dealer can make the payment anything you want - they just stretch the timing longer and you end up paying even more. You need to recommend they need to look at if they can afford the car outright first.

Toyota is resting on its laurels and sure is not worth the Toyota tax now, They are just chasing the $$$$ at the cost of QC and don't care what people think, lets see how far that get's them with more real options available today.

Toyota pretty much refreshed their entire lineup over the past 4 years. You don’t always find all the issues doing QC in a factory.

Leasing - I used to say - well treat it like an 8 year finance with a pause at whatever the term is to decide if you like it or want out of that deal.

Zack… you may want to check AAA. Road trips are at record levels. I only do road trips or I take the train and RT from there. So my cars are dual purpose with an eye for the highway. Done with flying.

@@nickolastiguan So the new infotainment screens in other brands are not reliable? That's like saying tablets today are not as reliable as tablets in 2009. Heck, I still see hand parking brakes in top of the line Toyota SUVs in Manila when most vehicles today have a button or switch.
@nickolastiguan

@@robocop581 are you focusing on the screen itself, or the system? The screen itself probably doesn’t fail much, well, apparently some of the new cars’ “iPad” do fail (Tesla, Mach E etc). A friend of mine took her QX50 to the dealer for a service and detail, and somehow the screen failed after 😆 Hand parking brake is great, simple mechanical design, easy to fix, and also make servicing your brakes easier. I had a car with a button hand brake, and now I have a hand pull and a foot hand brake, definitely prefer the mechanical ones. Anton Yelchin’s death is a perfect example of, newer doesn’t necessarily mean better, or more reliable/dependable.

Toyota is still worth it, although they have exploded exponentially cost wise. Production quality is still good but not as great as before.
