Motorola APX portable backlight color, a how-to. Want to assign each channel its own color on your Motorola APX portable radio? You can! Here is a quick down and dirty on how to do that. Keep in mind it does disable the intelligent lighting (color based on event such as emergency or call notification).
The default settings for the radios backlight is set for Intelligent Lighting. This changes the color of the top display, and adds a colored bar to the main screen when certain things happen. The default background color is white, but here are the intelligent lighting stuffs:
-Red: Low Battery, Out of Range, etc.
-Orange: Emergency Activation by you or another subscriber on the system
-Green: Page, Private Call
To change that, and assign each channel it's own color (keep in mind this will disable the intelligent lighting!), fire up your APX CPS and do the following:
1. Display: Check the box for Channel Color Backlight
(If you get errors, head into Radio Profiles, and check the box for each of the following (on all profiles you have): Disable Emergency Notification, Disable Critical Notification, Disable Call Notification
2. Zone: Select the color you want under Channel Color Backlight
3. Send it! Write the radio, and enjoy
You will need to manually assign the color to each channel, in each zone, otherwise it will default to white. Enabling this will disable that IL radio wide, so you can't mix your zones, meaning some have a dedicated color, and others intelligent lighting. It's all or nothing. You can mix and match your colors within zones, so that's fun.
