Motorola Moto G7 Plus Screen Replacement

So, I removed the screen connector without removing the battery connector first. Now my phone only shows "empty battery" and I cannot get it to boot - I can get into fastboot and then sideload some stuff but it doesn't boot propper, and does not charge any more. To the phone, the battery is at 0% while it was def charged before I opened it to change the screen. Is this pointing towards a broken battery, or might the mainboard be broken? Any help appreciated!
