The Tow Test! - Top Truck Challenge 2013

This is the only event in TTC's seven-event repertoire that doesn't require mud bogging, rockcrawling, or deep water navigation. Nonetheless, this kickoff event instills fear in competitors because it has the potential to annihilate weak components. The Tow Test is like a truck pull that drank a case of energy drinks. It takes place on a dirt hill that climbs approximately 13 feet in elevation over its 150-foot length and it has a maximum angle of approximately 16 degrees. Each competitor's rig was fastened to a 36,000-pound cement mixer and each competitor was allowed one pull. There was no time limit and a pull was completed when forward momentum ceased or the front axle of the cement mixer crossed the finish line. This event favors heavy rigs with big power and grippy tires.

My buddies at a mechanics school made fun of a guy who drove an old 80's mazda 1.8L pickup for having a wimpy truck. Over the course of a couple weekends, he took that little truck, redid the axle, removed the rear suspension, put in a forklift transmission, filled the bed with concrete, and challenged the biggest, baddest mud machine there to a pull competition. It was hilarious to see. The big truck hopped all over the place and was just pulled slowly down the lot into a field.

nuggeter al BECAUSE Ford dealers and reps push people that are only looking for a vehicle to buy their fords. Its all about sells tactics. Running a mechanic shop my self i have many people that bring in many different brands and I have had many ford owners dump their 2002-2008s already because of issues. Fords are for the people that haven't tried Lexus, or toyota. Ford owners don't know better as they are so use to fixing their stuff. And fi you haven't fixed anything yet on your ford you will regret working on it your self when you do. Work on a ford then work on a toyota (when it needs it) and come back and talk about best selling truck. By the way please check out usnews.rankingsandreviews.com . as this is a third party that lets the public decide what vehicle is better. Im a honda and toyota person. But Lexus has come out on top for consumers reviews. Which sounds right to me as Scion, Lexus, are made by the same company as toyota. Were as Some nissans are made by ford if you didn't know that.

Which is why the challenge comes in being able to modulate the fluxing sweet spot when pulling. If you have an extra drive shaft on hand than it would be beneficial to gun it all the way. Otherwise you may be out of the competition.

I'm surprized some of them don't run big turbo diesels, wouldn't you get a lot more torque running a huge diesel? Seems it would be better for a lot of the course too, like the water stuff and hill climb too

This is essentially what today's monster trucks (Bigfoot, Grave Digger, Maximum Destruction) evolved from; people taking stock trucks and upgrading them to massive statures and power. These trucks are far more advanced of course. I suggest checking out some of the 80's monster trucks. They didn't know exactly what to do with them back then, so they would do mud pits, race over cars, drag pulling sleds. Everything was homemade then with little suspension travel.

alot of those trucks were really powerful, now I do apoligize for asking this but I may have missed this information in the video but, did that cement mixer actually have cement in its rotating barrel or was it empty, and secondly, the engine of the mixer was completly shutdown and the mixer was being pulled by those trucks while it was in Neutral right, say again I really do apoligize if I missed this information in the video, Thanks....

You're right in saying bouncing or losing traction is not what you want, but each time you back off the gas when neither of those things are happening or about to happen is just losing drive and momentum, which is also not what you want.

Justin Roberts That 79 F350 was clearly the strongest truck in the field. That 540 Ford was tearing up that course so fast it may have been going too fast and he screwed his run up. If the driver knew what he was doing it would have been: 1st: 79 F350 2nd: 79 Bronco 3rd: 68 Bronco ...and the rest of those Chevy boys and that one pussy Yota can suck it.
