@Jacob Tratnyek his point its that there's 24 years difference between engines, and the 4 banger still needs a turbo to do it. the 4.6 4V wasnt necessarily revolutionary per say, but it did lay the groundwork for the 5.0L coyote and Voodoo engines.

This was an incredible value in those days considering 250+hp was considered a powerful car then. The german muscle cars (BMW M3 was in the low $40Ks while the AMG C class was closer to $50K) and the Japanese (base Supra, FWD base 3000GT, and base 300ZX were in the high $30Ks). Of course, the build quality on the Cobra was very poor and they used very cheap materials but this car was made to cruise around with the rumble of a V8 and drag race at lights.

@AlexLopez-vx3cr5 жыл бұрын
P71? Crown Vic? That is a 2v 4.6. Depends on the engine though. I think they're only safe up to about 450hp before the rods get ready to bend, IIRC. I'll take a Terminator 4v over just about anything though. Those things were bulletproof.
@bradnimbus48367 ай бұрын
@@AlexLopez-vx3cr I know this is a super old response but you're absolutely correct! Back then I had a P71 that I was torn between upgrading its 2v 4.6 or swapping it for a older 4.6 4v from an older Lincoln. My original comment did a terrible job explaining that, lol.

I had this exact car and it was a blast to drive, only thing I think it needed better seats, they weren't comfortable and not much bolstering to hold you in.
@ragingbull94mtx6 жыл бұрын
Why did you sell it? What did you replace it with?
@forterierocks6 жыл бұрын
ragingbull94mtx I traded it in on a Chevy Tahoe needed something bigger.

Don't even ask for an automatic...I miss those days. Yeah...I had a snake bit kit in my Firehawk Trans-Am that used to eat these things all day long. Man those were fun times. Hell my, 25th Anniversary Trans-Am and her LT1 used to ball up on these as well.

Why do american stick shifts have so much throw? The stick nearly falls flat backwards...

how hard is it to find 4V heads and intake these days? I know they weren't common in the ~20 years Ford made the 4.6

They put hydo boost brakes in the Mustang but not the diesel trucks??
@timclarkjr12226 жыл бұрын
there isn't any room for the vaccum boost due to its size, so they went and used the smaller hydro boost unit

We have a 96 SVT Cobra previous owner only drove on Sunny days. We do the same. Had 39K miles when we bought it in 2011, has 52K now. Black paint Genuine Ford SVT Cobra Chrome 17x9” wheels. No cats X pipe flow master exhaust. B&M Short throw shifter, K&N air filter, Red Hawk brake pads, BAMA Tune, H&R lowering springs, Bilstein shocks & struts, Full Length sub frame connectors Midwest Suspension components and kept all of the original factory pieces when I upgraded. Car paint is excellent with a few nicks but no dents or scratches. Undercarriage is like the day it left Ford complete with all chalk marks & no rust. Same for the engine bay. Has stock 3:23 gearing would like to change to 3:73 for some better acceleration. Only other thing would be to add a supercharger but the bottom end of these Cobras are not built for boost so probably leave it be or add later B heads. Only other Mod in mind would be to add 2003 Cobra front seats and a rear seat delete kit.

I bought a 1995 in 2009 for $5k...it was a steal for being a Rio red w/ black cloth cobra with 75k original miles..i drove it for a couple years in the summer and sold it in 2011...I learned something that day..never sell a fun car that's paid off..it was dumb.

I wanted one of these so bad back in the day. the 4.6 was a huge disappointment when comparing them to Chevy or pontiac. so when this came out with 300+ hp that was huge...now, 300hp isn't all that much.

The only bad thing about the 4.6 was it jumping time. Besides that it was a good motor.

Pair them both up with the same gears (4.56s,4.30s) and the cobra comes out on top

You're absolutely right is basically the same block or engine but better heads and I believe more aggressive cams

@Der König well it should has about a hundred more horsepower because of the supercharger

I owned 1997 Cobra and I easily kept up with the 03 Mach1 cars and even beat some. My 97 cobra was a full bolt on car with 4.10 gears.

I needed this car in 96...but couldn't afford even a GT back then. Now, I can afford a Cobra...but they don't make them anymore. Can't afford Shelby GT350s and GT500s. Nowadays you gotta tune and mod your turbo V6 to get that thrill.

After watching about 20 of these road test videos, its become apparent to me that the testers ar motor week don't know how to launch a car. Doesn't matter the year, make or model, they post numbers that are averaging 3 or 4 tenths of a second slower than anybody else in the business. Wonder why that is
@ragingbull94mtx6 жыл бұрын
ETs are meaningless... trap speed tells the whole story.
@rhull39396 жыл бұрын
That's because they smoke the hell out of the tires on every launch it seems. I had this car and it can 13.70's repeatedly stock. Edit: Sorry, it had a K&N. But I don't think that's giving me 3 tenths.
@ragingbull94mtx6 жыл бұрын
@Robert Hull - What were your stock trap speeds? Because I think that will determine whether @CareerFireman is right, and there's no density altitude correction.
