How did you get the front spring out? I have a nearly identical bike, the spring seems to be jammed up inside or broken. Looking in both ends of the fork head tube I can't see how any tool can be applied. It looks like at the top it is a friction fit, or maybe spot welded?

John Foster hi, I found info about the leading link suspension online. I seem to recall I took the stem out and there was a small space where I was able to slip a thin rod (actually a fender stay), through and then tap-tapped on that until the spring popped out, along with the nylon bearing. It’s likely that a stuck bearing is the culprit. Thanks, Tom

@@raleighnut Thanks! Yes I got mine apart, it's actually extremely simple. The only moving parts are a spring and a cylindrical nylon plug. The lit calls it a "bearing", which can cause confusion as most people are used to "bearings" being circular, not linear. The plug is just there to connect the ball on the top of the height adjuster to the spring. Since it's nylon it's prone to absorbing water and jamming, also there are no wipers or seals. The owner had put a lot of grease in it, which is not recommended because it collects dirt. The top of the spring just pushes against a pin that is jammed/ spot brazed to the sides of the steerer tube. Looking in from the top I thought there was a solid metal part, but it was just a mass of grease! I put degreaser in and got the nylon plug working by tapping it from the bottom with the end of a large bolt that fit in. Once that was moving I pushed both out from above with a metal rod as you describe.

John Foster well done - and you’ve described the process much better than I did.

As a 60s kid growing up in the UK all I ever dreamed of owning was a mini cooper a lotus 7 and a moulton bike. Great days

I wonder how it climbs vs normal 28" wheel roadbikes? Thanks for sharing.

Joseph Farrugia a little bouncy if you try to stand while climbing, but I am taking it easy on the hills!
