Great videos. This info is great. Im 46 now, I have injured myself so many times due to the lack if knowledge when I was younger. There wasn't internet, just Iron magazine, and Muscle and Fitness. They had a lot of lifting routines but nothing about avoiding injury, or if you have injury do this instead. I have had 4 shoulder surgeries, 1 bicep repair last year, and now another bicep rear recently in the right. All of it was due to my poor lifting form and lack of information. I hope these younger guys take these videos to heart so they can have a greater longevity of lifting then myself and others have had. I wish I could go back and have the knowledge that is available now. Thank you so much. Please keep posting.

Triceps have always been my best feature. I built them mainly with taking a single dumbbell sitting in a chair and doing behind the head extensions. Going heavy and to failure with a spotter. 70s 80s 90s. 12-15 reps. Blew my tris up! BUT, it also started wearing my elbows out. Eventually I stopped them and have no more elbow pain. Luckily I had already built their foundation, it's been easier to maintain them. Also, I changed my grip. Alot of people dont know that sometimes the pain in your elbow has nothing to do with your elbow. Its actually originating at the palm. AthleanX has a video about it. Tris are still jacked. No more elbow pain😁

And the moving to narrow grip to the face and last I do overhead but with a three steps difference 1. Stand close to the cable machines 6 reps 2. then take a step forward another 6 reps 3 Last step forward ensuring your elbows are far behind your head for. Ore stretch . Perfect finished for the long head including the short small head.

I have something that I hope anyone to read this: I read a book about an old school of bodybuilding. they mention that the secret of huge triceps they were doing at that time is training anything comes behind the neck !! we know it is good for the long head of the triceps but guess what! I have started having huge triceps since I put more focus on exercises behind my neck just like those legends. YES, it still working and never waste your time at the gym for extra exercises for the short head and the lateral head like I was doing and it was leading me to overtrain my triceps.

Great advice. I was lifting heavy at 58 yrs old. I would use a 95lb dumbell for seated overhead dumbell extensions and had been for a year or 2. Then 1 day I felt a sharp pain in the elbows while doing these and kept getting worse. Long story short I had torn the tricep tendon on both elbows and had to have them cutoff and reattached with screws. Was out of the gym for 9 months. Be careful with the elbows. The surgeon said that the muscle and bones can take the weight but not the tendons as we age.

As everyone has said, this is such a solid video. I watched it a year ago and coming back to it, I realize just how much it has shaped my tricep days the past year. Kudos

The kick backs John did work great. Even with simple light weight you can feel them tris working. Good advise. I've always told people similar advise on how to work their tris. But like always, the new generations of tiny lifters would prefer their advise from Facebook workout vids.

You are totally right about not starting with behind the neck tricep raises. The gym that I frequented moved the mirror so that I couldn’t watch myself lower the weight behind my head. I’m of a similar age and had sore elbows for a while. I’ve gotten rid of the ache and find exercises such as what you are suggesting to be perfect and allow me to get at least the same pump without the pain. I now prefer to use 2 lighter dumbbells behind the neck rather than one so that one tricep doesn’t take over.

As a teen and in my 20, and even early 30s I FUBARed my elbows going super heavy on skull crushers. I do have big meaty Tris but ive paid the price. I would gladly give up some arm size to be able to throw a baseball again. Good advice doing press downs first.

I’ve been lifting for about 4 yrs now, and I feel a lot of people stop getting gains because they think they know everything about lifting. My wrestling coach told me to be great, you must be a student of your practice. You inform me about things and give me new knowledge each video. I’m running out of your videos to watch! Lol Thanks for the information boss

Great video. I have found over years of experimentation that doing the push down First helps the tendons greatly. Using an ez curl for the JM press is a great idea. I might just pick up a rackable ez curl for convenience sake. A straight bar tends to put too much stress on the outer elbow tendons, and I’ve had enough issues with them over the years. They don’t need anymore stress.
