NEW DELHI: The India-China standoff along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh may be nowhere closer to resolution but India has the advantage by occupying tactical heights on the southern bank of Pangong Tso. Mountains favor the defender; whoever occupies dominating heights is in control of the battle, says Siachen hero Lt Gen. Sanjay Kulkarni (Retd). At altitudes in excess of 16,000 feet, warfare assumes an entirely new dimension, he told StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale. Acclimatisation is the key and battle-hardened Indian troops are far better equipped than the Chinese, said Gen. Kulkarni, the first Indian army officer to land on the Siachen glacier in 1984 as part of ‘Operation Meghdoot’. With the current round of LAC standoff poised to extend into winter, Gen. Kulkarni said logistics will be the key. At those heights, you not only battle the enemy but also Nature; the wind chill factor makes it worse, he added.

I say, don't be the defender, a defender always has something to lose, go on an attack for once. Head to a contested territory and then eat a chunk of new territory. I say, start patrolling in Aksai Chin, occupy some segments of a disputed territory. I say, start patrolling near Kailash Mansarovar (there was a small Indian enclave there, I heard), put them on the defensive for once.
@illuminatusdeus3051
@illuminatusdeus3051 3 жыл бұрын
@Albert Dacosta Yes, but a defender means you are defending a territory, in essence, depending on the terrain, you are restricted in your forward movement. You can only bleed your adversary if you're able to choke him, or if you are able to limit your advantage to 1 attacker vs 3 defenders. I have heard that defenders can multiply their advantage with terrain, but even if they dig trenches, they are still in claimed Indian territory.

Illuminatus Deus but it’s in our culture, history and conviction that India never ever attack or claim another country land. We are getting strong to defend ourselves and protect those who need our help. That’s the moto of India, strongest as It can be to protect our motherland from all outside evil. India never believe in conquering strategy. It has never ever happened in last 5000 years.

But Chinese are building air defences at an incredible speed, converting temporary to permanent, so this warfare will not be landbased but air powered, please comment
@sudipvro
@sudipvro 3 жыл бұрын
Every Chinese armament & infrastructure from Finger 4 to Finger 8 is directly under India's Bofors guns....China will have to use airpower to silence our Bofors , but surely our army knows it & have placed many manpads equipped soldiers along with anti-aircraft guns and akash SAMs with the Bofors guns....finger4-8 distance is 8 km & Bofors range is 30+ km..... Two options chinis have through air is direct air attack which will be suicidal OR use some million dollars Air-to-ground cruise missiles to destroy few lakh dollars of artillery guns.... either suicidal or Uneconomical option for chinese

@Apoorv Chauhan also S-400 in mountainous terrain would be cannon fodder for brahmos....asked an ex-brigadier in twitter... India has kept 3-4 brahmos ready for each s-400 launcher....
@sudipvro
@sudipvro 3 жыл бұрын
@Apoorv Chauhan wohi toh 1billion $ hai ek S-400 regiment , brahmos 2.75 million $ per unit ... Even if India uses 30 brahmos for whole S-400 regiment ( 8 vehicles in total ) it's 80 million $ gone to destroy 1 billion dollars 😂.... the damage to China would be 200 times the cost of those brahmos's .....but had it been flat land , brahmos would have had little chance.....s-400 can't attack with steep mountains in front of it.

It is heartening to listen to Military leaders and experts. However, fighting in a climatewise hostile territory far away from Han Chinese settlements ( North and mostly East) is convenient for the Chinese..the heat and tension doesn't seem to be reaching them, and anyway they have suppressed the death of their soldiers killed in action. There is nothing to win here, only to defend. We need action in South China sea for these people to get the full taste of what lies ahead when you cross the line. Maybe not by us but by US.

But, what is worrying is that China may employ a horde of armed little drones- I heard that they are perfecting this deployment - to take out our brave jawans from the heights for which we may not have adequate defence. To forestall that it is better to go on the offence & push them back even accepting the risk of a hot war.

Isn't it that its China which has come ahead and captured land? So its China that have to defend the captured land. The ball is in India's court and India has to use force to push China back. India doesn't seem to be in condition to do that. So now Chine will just sit, and India will keep asking them to go back. Time will pass.

Time to show some "Indian Swagger", have confidence countrymen we can beat the Chinese if we all work hard to develop our nation. Think like a nation of Billion plus people as Dr. Abdul Kalam said.

All these videos show very vague maps. There are some maps on Wikipedia they provide far more details. One such is here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depsang_Plains#/maplink/0
