Enjoyed this early season outing y'all had. Thanks for the Montana views, blue skies, dark skies, wind, rain and grauple all. I'd swap some of this southeastern heat for that stormy, cool Montana weather in a flash. But my Whitefish MT friend is tellin' me that area is way to warm for Montana even in July. 90 degrees as I write this and it's 92 here. Can't wait 'til Colorado in October.

When we got up to the lake I thought that I could smell smoke. When I got over to the campsite I held my hand down to it and it was still warm. It was really easy to get started again. Although it is bad form from the kids who were there before us, but it worked out for me because I was freezing when I got there and snow was on the way in!

Being from Montana, I grew up in the Beartooth Mountains. This is a classic Montana storm. It doesn’t matter what time of year. I just got snowed on July 3rd driving the Beartooth Pass. Great video and memories!

It is a typical storm for sure. But I will say, the Beartooth Highway, that is another beast altogether! Incredible country!

That's a great trail! Hiked it last year. That weather looked horrible. I hate it when it's windy like that. The upper basin is amazing. Too bad you didn't get to explore around. Love the Selway-Bitterroot. Thank you for sharing! Hike on!
@mountainwanderer5 ай бұрын
As soon as we decided on this lake, I looked up videos on it and yours popped up first! I had to watch it (.. again). I fully intended on getting over to where you camped and staying there, but when I was crossing the outlet and got to the point where we would have to get our feet wet, the wind was howling and we were freezing, so it was a quick "NOPE!!" and we backtracked to the other side. I really wanted to check out that upper basin!

I see you made it up there! I haven't run into any of you all on the trails, but sometimes we hit them well before the "season" starts. We made it up when there was still 6' of snow on the "trail." For whatever reason, youtube has dumped our views all of the sudden- even the shorts! We never did any social media cross promotion of any consequential nature though. The struggle is real!

Should have told me you were in my neck of the woods, coulda grabbed a beer in Missoula! Little rock creek trail gets hit hard every year by the water runoff, definitely one of the rougher trails in the Bitterroot.

For a bit there I thought you were training for the Olympic Mountains - busy trailhead and uncertainty regarding campsite availability at the end of the trail. I’m guessing the weather worked for you as well as against you. Thinning the crowds and pummeling those who stay. Looks like i would be a great midweek trip. That or get on the trail very early.
@mountainwanderer5 ай бұрын
We really did get lucky with the crowds! At the lake there were 2 accessible campsites (without getting wet) and we got the one that was away from the main trail. Maybe everyone knew the forecast and were getting out of there before the storm hit.

@@mountainwanderer As long as you can stay dry and have a means of warming up. Nice thing about hammocking is it feels far less cooped up when you are under your tarp in your hammock than in a tent in the ground. Heck, I’ve even sat in my camp chair under my tarp.
