I mounted my Starlink antenna on my roof using the Winegard DS-2000 Universal Antenna Mount. I live in an area with heavy snow accumulation and I wanted a roof mount that was higher than the Starlink Volcano mount.

I've installed satellite dishes on roofs for years. When installing this type of mount, use SIX lag screws. The two in the centre should be screwed into a roof joist. Use a hammer to sound out the joist. The other 4 screws can go into the roof decking. Make sure you use a proper sealant (mastic tape) under the mount, and the 6 screws will drill thru the black mastic, self-sealing the holes. Also, leave a drip loop where the cable comes down the side of the pole. The way you installed it, you cannot take the dish out of the pole without cutting your zip ties. When installing the dish into the mounting pole; Take the spring loaded locking mechanism out of the Starlink pole, and use that hole to put a bolt thru. Drill a hole thru the grey satellite dish mount or antenna mount. Insert the Starlink pole onto the grey pole, line up the holes, install the nut/bolt thru it, and tighten it. They grey pole will collapse slightly, and the Starlink pole will tighten up inside for a perfect fit. I just did an install for someone last week using this method and it worked perfectly!

It is a loose fit, and the shaft should either be bolted or screwed. If I lived in an area with less snow accumulation on the roof, I would have opted for the Starlink Volcano mount instead.

I have that mount and after a rainstorm with 20 mph winds the mount blew over. It holds two small roof antennas on a five-foot pole. So, be sure to crank down the swivel bolt good and tight. No damage was done.

I squeezed some sealant into the holes and on the lag bolt threads, but it was pretty cold at the time, so I may redo it this summer.

At 1:10 how far down from the tip of the mount did you make that hole
@modelxevfun2858
@modelxevfun2858 3 жыл бұрын
I don't recall the exact distance, but it was further down than the hole in the tripod mount. The reason I drilled it lower was that the diameter of the antenna shaft is a bit larger above the joint, and I was hoping that it would allow for a tighter fit. In the end, the fit using drilled holes and the popouts on the antenna shaft was just too loose for my liking. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't bother drilling holes for the popouts, I'd just secure it with a couple of screws. An installer commented on this video and said that he removed the popouts from the antenna shaft, drilled a hole through the mount and used a single bolt to secure it. The advantage of that method is that when you tighten the bolt, the mount will deform a bit and he says it makes for a very sturdy mount.

I am on the pre-order waitlist. I am getting my roof done in the next couple of weeks, I wish I could order the mast anchor so I could install that when they are redoing the roof. But I can't even get into a 'store' for the accessories yet. How much do they cost?

I would have gone with the volcano mount from Starlink if I didn't live in a climate with so much snow. I sent a support request to Starlink to see if they were going to offer an extension for their volcano mount, but did not receive an answer. They do offer a pole adapter that will fit most pole mounts. I bought my wineguard DS2000 mast mount from Amazon (not sponsored) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00068YUN4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

i just received the v2 dish today, and am planning on using the same method. although after my initial findings after unboxing. i have some Ubiquiti J-arms that are actually slighting smaller diameter then the typical grey ones. which is nice. have you had any issues with this style mount since posting this video?
@modelxevfun2858
@modelxevfun2858 2 жыл бұрын
I've been very pleased with my mount and have had no issues. The reason why I used this mount instead of the standard mount was that I often have 36 inches or more of snow on the roof, and this mount placed the dish higher than the standard starlink mount.

@@modelxevfun2858 SNOW exactly! It looks excellent btw and love the height you achieved for SNOW! I'm already done mounting mine over a year ago myself and used a Satellite TV J-Arm I already had but at the time the BETA was so new and I was one of the first people to get a dish and bought the Dish Pole Adapter Pipe which was totally not necessary obviously! As a side note I installed my neighbors a month ago (the newer Rectangle Dish) and just used a Satellite J-Arm again and this time slipped it into the pipe and used a muffler clamp and it squished the pipe and locked it down nicely!

@modelxevfun2858
@modelxevfun2858 3 жыл бұрын
A half inch drill is the right size. The inside diameter of the Wineguard DS 2000 is a bit too large and it makes for a sloppy fit. I wouldn't trust it just using the Starlink quick release. I originally thought I might use a plastic shim to firm it up but then decided that I'd just screw the two together. The antenna is pretty expensive, so I decided that a couple of screws would give me peace of mind and they will be easy to remove if I ever need to.

I used the two screws to secure the Starlink mast to the Winegard mount. The Starlink mast slips into the Winegard, but it is a loose fit and it didn't feel secure, so I added the screws to minimize wobble and make sure it would stay in place in high winds.

You should mount it on the rake side of the peak where your 2x6 or 2x8 is. It’s a bad idea where you mounted it will cause a roof leak over time.
@modelxevfun2858
@modelxevfun2858 3 жыл бұрын
I agree that would be the best for most locations. Unfortunately I have huge snow cornices that form on the north side. I have to cut them off on a regular basis over the winter. The Antenna wouldn't stand a chance if one broke off. The center lag bolts are firmly into structure but I'll probably add a backer board on the inside of the attic and some through bolts for the outside of the mounting bracket when things warm up this spring. With some good flexible compound, I'm hoping that it will be fine.

You should have cut the bend out of the mount. That is what all the Satellite installers are doing now when they roof mount. No need for that extra length and bend. Less stress and wind load. Good job though.
