The first scenes of the greatest show in the history of television. Opie's mad that his housekeeper Rose is getting married and moving away.

Ron Howard was this most natural, unspoiled, non-bratty and plain adorable child star ever. There couldn't have ever been a better choice to play Opie.

Pretty bratty in this episode, but I agree.
@leaf21804 жыл бұрын
Bruh he was the most annoying, bratty child. I couldn't stand him in most of the episodes. Not spoiled. But bratty, annoying, and jealous asf.
@hazbinotakusimp21824 жыл бұрын
I also like that he's not a /perfect/ child, gets average grades and has to learn from his pa as he grows, I thought he was great in the show. In this episode though... Well he gets better over time XD

@@jamesdunn9714 Yeah, but his feelings were understandable. It's hard to say goodbye to someone you love, and it showed that Opie cared.

Ron Howard completely stole this scene. When he picks up that box of rice to throw, it gets me every time. In my humble little opinion, this was one of the best sitcoms ever made. Been watching since I was a little guy and still watching it into my 50's.

Opie was the cutest little thing! I would love to see this whole episode, but I can't find it. I watch The Andy Griffith show five days a week. It' s on 3 times a day with back to back episodes so I catch it at some point throughout the day. This show has never been off the air in over 40 plus years.

The best portrayal of a father/son relationship. Andy was a model that it's a shame more dads didn't follow. He was a no-nonsense disciplinarian, made Opie work and insisted he be respectful, but ALWAYS was patient and explained why and also listened to his child and respected his feelings. Opie knew the rules[that become laws as we age]. and he feared punishment[police and jail], but not his father[society]

The scene at the end of the episode when Aunt Bea starts to leave but Opie doesn't want her to is good, too.
@bernadettebento14199 ай бұрын
This first episode showing the talent of Ron Howard as a young actor, is one of the best episodes ever. The character of Opie speaking up, and having so many lines for a kid his age, is just mind boggling. He looked so sincere and upset that Rose was leaving him and portrayed what some people have termed a "bratty" kid. But the point of his "brattiness" is that the housekeeper was like a mother to him and he was heartbroken. Picking up the box of rice to throw the box was hysterical. And the ending where he doesn't let aunt Bea leave is just the sweetest. What a brilliant little actor.

I love how cute little Opie Taylor just says what is on his mind!! "I know why they shouldn't get married!" Andy says, "Opie what are you doing?" Opie replies, "I'm speaking now so I won't have to forever hold my peace!" And then Barney or Andy jumps in and says "You wasn't supposed to speak!" Then Opie replies with, "Well then why did you ask?" Oh my gosh!! He comes by it honest!! A cute little man who was never afraid to say what's on his mind! But I am sure that Andy wasn't as cranky or as mean as he appeared to be but sometimes kids can try your patience even if they are just "speaking their peace" like Opie but Opie never had any bad intentions. He just was brave enough to come out and always speak up and tell the truth and just say how he feels without trying to hurt anyone's feelings. But his way of saying things always cracks me up!!😅😂💕💕

Yeah, it is just part of the ceremony, but now that I think about it, why do they wait until the last minute to give people a chance to say they think it's a mistake. If someone really believes the future spouses shouldn't be joined, they need to speak much earlier than that. (Kinda funny if the preacher unexpectedly finished it off with, "...you're too late, you shoulda spoken up long ago," rather than, "...speak now or forever hold your peace."😂🤣) As an aside, I bought the first season on DVD back in 2006 or so, and I did watch this first scene, and I didn't think Andy appeared cranky or mean, just firm and trying to maintain patience and even understanding, but Opie wasn't giving up, which was why he had to ask Barney to cover his mouth. Plus I agree with the rest of what your comment says.😂
