After years of hearing about Gojira, coming across Gojira in interviews with or just generally coming up in conversations, it was stumbling on this song and specifically this *outro* where I realized I had to stop and take a focused listen to their discography. It's chef's kiss.

I love these covers where you don't play only lead/rhythm guitar, but bit of both. So one can learn both parts and play whichever.

@@matthewrodino Yeah I was surprised too when I found this out. I think it might have been the fact that there are certain riffs that sound kinda easy on their own, but to transition from one riff to another might be a challenge for them. I can make that assumption because I've tried playing the whole song myself. Also, that main tremolo riff, as I've mentioned in my comment, sounds easier until you've actually tried to learn it, probably because of the weird timings of the palm mutes. So imagine Joe trying to play that riff while doing vocals. Not easy, I'd imagine. But hey, they've played Adoration For None for the first time a few months ago, so if they were able to surprise us with that, I'm sure one day they'll surprise us with this song! Not sure when, but we'll see!
@matthewrodino2 жыл бұрын
@@cyc_music1 yea I get that, I’ve learned the song and I can understand how playing it while singing would be hard. That’s why Joe doesn’t want to play Esoteric, says he never practiced playing it and singing it. It’s a hard ass song on its own too lmao
@cyc_music12 жыл бұрын
@@matthewrodino Yeah man, I guess it's goes to show that when Gojira (or any band for that matter) were writing and recording these difficult songs, they didn't really think about how they would sound in a live setting, as well as the difficulty level of playing them live. They were just writing those songs whilst pushing themselves technically. Hence why we get so many songs from The Way Of All Flesh and L'Enfant Sauvage that were never played live.

Waited so long for this cover to come out. One of their best songs from Lenfant Sauvage album. Really helps watching you play, what techniques you use. Really learn alot by watching you. As always, thanks for uploading a cover with tabs of one of my favorite songs Steve! Won't have known that there was a bit of a turnaround in the pull-off where it turns into a 1-0 instead of a 0-1 hammer-on until you uploaded this! The main tremolo riff for this song is, for me at least, not sure if it's the same for everybody, is surprisingly difficult! Because when I first heard it, it sounds easy to play, but when I tried to learn it, it's not that easy. I don't know why, but I think you had to palm mute in places you don't normally expect to palm mute. I also think it's because of the note changes that are always putting me out of time as I tremolo pick, no idea why. So yeah, surprisingly difficult. Also, the super fast octave tremolo part in the outro riff - also pretty hard! Anyway, thanks again for uploading this Steve!
@ShadowMantraSteve2 жыл бұрын
I missed the small differences as well until really learning the song. Tremolo octaves still give me trouble as well!
@MrAnalyptic2 жыл бұрын
I also struggle with palm muted bit. For tromelo octaves I struggled with for a while. Until I found if I scooped my hand downwards and put my fingers up slightly with my pick slightly pointing in the air and just flicking the wrist with no tension and a loose grip on the pick it's easy enough. If you keep a straight picking hand flat to the neck you will find you get caught up and it's hard to go fast.
@cyc_music12 жыл бұрын
@@MrAnalyptic Yeah though I think I was using my wrist instead of my elbows when I doing the tremolo octaves. So, next time, maybe if I lift my elbow up a little bit would allow me to have more ease and flexibility doing those fast tremolo octaves, as I'll be able to do the "wrist-flicking" motion, as you've mentioned. Not sure if I did a good job explaining there, but I hope you knew what I meant. But thanks for the tip man!
