Thats the dilemma. They want private sector to invest but govt dont want to provide any subsidies. Also govt does not want see any NPA from existing auto ancillaries. Also govt dont want to give any preferential loans to Batteries especially manufacturing anode, cathode, electrolyte. Also govt does not want any bankruptcies from new age companies. Also govt wants these new companies to have 30% ROI. Neither govt wants to commit $500bn in losses nor existing players want them to go bust. there is no way ahead. it's a dead end situation

China controls most of the EV battery business. They have monopoly in battery manufacturing. Can India afford to have its transport on the mercy of China? Not unless India finds its own lithium reserves or cheap alternate to lithium batteries. Also, both center and state govts make lots of money from tax on petrol/diesel sale. How would govts will recover taxes if petrol sales go down? What India needs is hydrogen based vehicles where hydrogen fuel is produced locally in India.

Tips: China is also the world's largest producer of hydrogen now. If u guys want do something at Hydrogen-powered vehicles area . not only china ,Japan was already hiding behind.
