Why do some people like it? Very much? Because humor like that is not mainstream and it's usually played by total amateurs, no budget no nothing. Just pure idea and shitty execution. And if you like the IDEA (and I do) you just love to see it done well for once. If you hate the IDEA (like a lot of folks, totally understood) you will hate it no matter what. So there is no point in proofing why it's a shitty or a good movie. We are talking different languages on this.

The crowd laughter is a sociological thing. Hearing other people laugh makes you interpret something as funny. If what you're watching doesn't make you laugh or even crack a smile when you watch it by yourself, it's not funny. It's why a lot of sitcoms have laugh tracks.

Very few people can stand through Les Miserables, so I don't see your point. 99% of movie goers will not sit through 1.5 hours of non-stop singing even as a character dies, it's a very very niche market.
@futurestoryteller12 жыл бұрын
Broke the previous record for weekday Christmas opening. 7.9 on IMDb. In the top 20 highest grossing films of 2012. Made $394,896,690 at the box office (still playing). And nominated for 8 Academy Awards. How fucking niche is that!?
@iSOBigD12 жыл бұрын
People watched it because it had nothing but big name actors, not because it was great or because they love musical. The majority of people who saw this probably rarely watch musicals and will not see it twice. It's just extremely draining to hear NOTHING but singing the entire movie. Most musicals have some dialogue and story, it's not all in song form. Do you think it would have even made 10 mil if it had unknown actors? Even with the book's fame it wouldn't have had the juice.
@oldchicken212 жыл бұрын
Did you read my previous post? I said I didn't think I had populist sensibilities and I hated Les Mis. I laughed so hard at this movie, it is my ultimate guilty pleasure, the ibabe stuff was weak, I didn't like the superhero speed dating at all and didn't like the leprechaun stuff and thought the 4th wall joke at the end was dumb, but everything else, especially the "Machines Commercial" I laughed so hard. Why do critics universally refer to Kentucky Fried Movie, instead of the Groove Tube, when GT was the 1st, best, and most packed with future starpower, of the genre? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, but I don't think I have "populist sensibilities" and I hated Les Miserables. I am sure Alonso is going to get criticized by fans of Les Miserables for giving Movie 43, an utter waste of a film, more praise that Les Miserables, but I doubt it will inspire the same level of vitriol as what Christy got for her review of The Dark Knight Rises. Christopher Nolan fan boys are probably some of the most rabid fan boys out there. There were critics who got death threats because they did not like TDKR. I doubt Les Miserables fans are this irrational.
@impunchingyoursaladd11 жыл бұрын
I wouldnt say hating Les Mis is being a contrarian...Not everyone liked Les Miserables. I didnt hate it, I just was just totally bored throughout the whole movie, it feels about 3 hours long and the songs just wear you down (Yes I am aware that its a musical!). And I disliked alot of the characters. I also thought it was melodramatic at times. But hey, each to their own? Apart from Movie 43.

Then if he doesn't like a good movie, or one that was interesting, he nit-picks something stupid and cosmetic. For Looper which I thought was a decent movie - or at least one that could provoke a discussion - he kept complaining about Joseph Gordon Levitt's make-up. He is an awful critic. The show should just be Matt, Christy, and sometimes Ben.
