I have a lot of nostalgia for Deep Blue Sea and even more for Alien Resurrection. I never actually saw Hollow Man. For whatever reason, I just remember the promotional material for the movie terrifying me as a kid.

It's definitely worth a watch for the effects and the actors..the story is pretty good it just may be a bit rough depending on your own experiences but it's all intentional and well made

My main memories of seeing Deep Blue Sea in the theater was of some drunk guy yelling "HOLY F^&*ING S#$%!" when Samuel L Jackson gets chomped and then yelling "OH MAMA!" when Saffron Burrows had her sexy escape scene.

In Deep Blue Sea they had homages to the first 3 Jaws movies in how the sharks died. Gas explosion, electrocution and explosives. Its such a great fun movie.

The book "Memoirs of an Invisible Man" actually tackles some of the food etc related things, such as foods being visible until he digests them, which foods digest faster, etc, so it might be worthwhile to check that book out if you're interested in some nitty gritty overthinking. The book's invisibility method is different so it skips some things, but also then has other problems to think about (for example the main character has one set of invisible clothes, but how to fix them without invisible thread if they get a tear, etc). Also so happy to see more Deep Blue Sea love! The animatronics blew my mind as a kid, and I so would have wanted a remote controlled shark like that for our lake cottage XD

What's so disappointing about Deep Blue Sea is that every single one of the cgi shark shots could have been better recreated with their animatronic shark and the film would still hold up visually to this day.

The Reef is my second favorite shark movie. Another great Aussie film I love is Black Water. They used a real croc for a lot of the filming. Australia has a lot of great horror films. The Loved Ones is a film that comes to mind. I could go on and on but I will spare you the long novel. Ha ha

The main reason why practical effects aren't used as much anymore is because practical effect workers have a lot of protections from strong work unions, whereas the CGI department doesn't really have any protection from unions and CGI is just way cheaper in general. Tl;dr, CGI is more prevalent because animators are much more exploitable than practical effect workers.
