CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Saphira tells Eragon (Ed Speelers) why she chose him to be her rider.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Industrial Light and Magic special-effects wizard Stefen Fangmeier makes the leap into the director's chair with this coming-of-age fantasy concerning a young boy whose discovery of a mysterious dragon egg leads him on a predestined journey to become a Dragon Rider and defend his peaceful world against an evil king. Based on the best-selling novel by Christopher Paolini, Eragon tells the tale of the titular character (Ed Speleers), a humble farm boy living in the land of Alagasia, whose life is forever changed when he discovers that he has been chosen to fight the most powerful enemy his world has ever known. Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, and Djimon Hounsou co-star in a film produced by Davis Entertainment and adapted from the novel by screenwriters Peter Buchman, Larry Konner, and Mark Rosenthal.

Yea, it was shit. Eragon was a Mary-Sue, the story was filed with cliches and was basically a cheap copy of Tolkiens work with a ton of Apostrophes sprinkeled in.

you kidding? Eragon was a good book and definitely not a cheap copy of Tolkiens work. Yes Paolini used Tolkiens work as an influence but it came more from a story book. It was a fine book.

Please read the books, they are so good! It’s like Diet Lord of the Rings. All the fun fantasy aspects but much less complicated. I love LotR but Tolkien does a lot of info dumping and adds unnecessary lore to everything which makes it difficult to get through. Paolini’s writing is much more reader friendly.

1:16-2:07 Okay, I despise this movie. As a fan of the books, this movie is like a cancer that needs to be expunged, in my mind. However, this one scene is very, very good. It exemplifies the character of Eragon perfectly; a simple farm boy who has to overcome his fear in order to become a hero and a symbol of freedom by taking up the mantle of the Dragon Riders. It shows Saphira's wisdom and her conviction that both she and Eragon will rise to greatness if they stay true to one another. Most of all, it shows that their power together is greater than it could ever hope to be when they are apart. It helps a lot that Rachel Weisz was great in her role as Saphira. In total, this movie is a betrayal of the Inheritance Cycle, but this one scene, along with a handful of others throughout the film, was handled very well in the spirit of the series. The music and visuals in this minute or so are also great, particularly that shot of Eragon silhouetted above the battlefield in the dragonhold.

The movie would have been great, had it not been based off a book. The dragon is seen often (there are more dragon scenes in this movie than there are in movies with the name "Dragon" in the title), the CGI looks amazing (the fire looks real, if it's not), the voices match the characters, and the hero loses every here and there which keeps it interesting. The books are better, they have more detail and story. The movie's story base is a bit confusing and doesn't really explain itself well to those who haven't read the books... But overall, it's pretty good as a movie. There's a fight scene, a baby dragon scene, scenes that show how Eragon grows up, etc. Again, if this were a movie not based off of any books, the CGI and acting would be enough to call it a great movie.

Yes I would take that. Brom, even if he wasn’t accurate from the books was great in the movie, Eragon actor was good and I always picture him in my head a little by the actor, Arya looked good, but she was too friendly with Eragon in the movie, plus the apperance. But the soundtrack stood in my mind, it was truly great piece of music. But almost everything else was bad

Been awhile since I read the books, but didn't he make his sword Brisinger (however you spell it) in the 3rd book? And didn't the dragon learn to breath fire at the last second during this battle?

lol they can't make a second movie if they wanted to or not. well, i mean they could make a second movie, but only if they completely altered the original story. they totally screwed over the plot of the first book, and as a result they've dug a hole for themselves.

I've been rereading all of the books for the last 5 days, I'm half into inheritance, and e veryrhing about this makes me want to cringe, so many things that they got wrong I completely agree they just need to remake it all together, and make sure the import details aren't lost and the plot line stays intact. I love the book for how much detail they have and the movie just took it and threw it out the window.

And then in rode Daenerys Stormborn on her three dragons. "That's cute", she said. "DRACARYS!" And nothing was left of Eragon, Saphira, or those who survived the battle, and House Targaryen ruled over the Vardon for a thousand years hence.

Saphira doesn't breathe fire until she comes to Eragons aid with Arya on her back when he slays Durza! why is murtagh in a cage?! ....this is awful....I will never watch this movie. I'm sure it's good if you accept it as its own thing and NOT a representation of the book..sorry.. I'm just sad.. 😔

Ajihad and Brom were the only characters who looked in the movie as I imagined them. Farthen Dur was terribly done (for budget reasons I'm sure), and Saphira looked and sounded weird. I imagined her voice as being more...well, more. Deeper and resonant. They should neved have made this movie before the book series was over though, because they ended up contradicting a lot of the later stuff. Paolini probably just took their money and didn't provide enough oversight on the project.

The movie is fine as its own thing. It got a lot of elements right there and if more elements of the book were included (I wouldve said give the film an extra hour and make it an epic) then we may have had all 4 books done by now.

Did anyone notice that Saphira breathed fire at 1:54, she’s only supposed breath fire at the battle of Durza. It’s so annoying that such a good book has so so much flaws in the movie but I guess that is with every movie. The Urgals look like people with face paint and make up

I see a bunch of people griping that "The book was better", and, having not read the book, I'm not sure about that from my personal views. But the movie was still entertaining to say the least. I enjoyed it when I saw it in theaters, and that's what I care most about. Like SST, on its own, it is a good movie. Is it a 1-1 telling of the book? No. I've heard that the book covers a time period of a couple years while Saphira grows from hatchling to Adult, and that it takes even longer for her to breath fire. You guys do have to understand, that film-makers are sometimes pressured to get a book movie out, and may not be given the best of budgets. Of course, some of this could be down to the fact that the writer of the novel had little say in the film making process, like how Robert A. Heinlein didn't have much say in how SST was made into a film (he died almost a decade before SST hit theaters though). It just all depends on several factors: 1. Does the studio care to stay close to the source material? and 2. Does the IP holder have a say in how it's handled? Case in point, the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings films. While, again, not 1-1 retellings of their respective novels, they were still as close as practical, but that's because the studios were willing to take a chance on the IPs, and give them the money they needed to get the job done right. The CG team in charge of this film was spot on though, and made Saphira very believable. The writers may have compressed the story to fit the film, but they may have been given a target length, and they may have had to make compromises to hit that target. At the end of the day though, there were a lot of talented people who poured their heart and soul into the film. Even if you don't like the final project, at least give credit that these guys did the best that they could.
