FILM DESCRIPTION:
When a heist goes wrong, thief Miles (Martin Lawrence) hides a diamond at a construction site before he's arrested. After serving two years, Miles returns to the location of his treasure and finds it is now a police station. Disguising himself as a recently transferred officer to infiltrate the building, Miles stops an escaping thief while trying to retrieve the jewel. Impressed by his quick action, superior Rizzo (Graham Beckel) partners him with the bumbling detective Casey (Luke Wilson).

Even when the Statute of limitations has passed most criminals who left the country still refuse to return even when they know they're in the clear. It was a "maybe we'll *catch* you later." He'll either won't be back for a few years or not at all, that's a long enough vacation for you to decide to stay.

Any movie with Martin Lawrence never goes wrong. Literally one of the best films I've seen, and sadly they don't make movies like these anymore these days. What an underrated cast this was. Martin Lawrence, Dave Chappelle, Luke Wilson, Greene, Forsythe + so much more, and included with this movie was a great soundtrack as well. Honestly it's worth watching. 5/5 right here man. My cousin had brought them over to watch them for the holiday, and because I couldn’t use logic at that age, I actually assumed that National Security was the SEQUEL to this film. The time that Miles served was for attempted robbery, since they couldn’t find the diamond on his person or hidden anywhere. Had he been arrested here, they’d have found the diamond on him, and he’d face a retrial convicting him of actual robbery. When considering that, his impersonation of a police officer, and his assaults against Tulley and the truck driver, Miles was facing a lot of time in prison in this scene. Anywhere between 10 years to life.

This is where the movie lost me a little bit. Because no self respecting Detective would ever let a criminal get away with impersonating a police officer. It’s a MAJOR felony. It would have been funnier if Martin Laurence used the border to keep the detectives from grabbing him. There has to be more of a reason why Luke Wilson lets him go.

tim maddocks that’s clever but idk...also how did Wilson’s character know his name was Miles Logan? I think there are some deleted scenes that may explain. I remember seeing the behind the scenes to this movie and an interview in which Wilson and another actor where dressed in matching bowling shirts which was not shown in the movie. If Miles Logan was arrested here, he’d have faced charges for robbery, perjury, impersonation of an officer, and likely receive lawsuits for the assaults against Tulley and the truck driver. He’d end up with 10 years to life in prison, and may have even received capital punishment. Alternatively, he may get caught in Mexico and tried for Deacon’s murder, and he’d spend 30 to 60 years in prison there before being deported to the US. Upon arriving in the US, he’d be charged with all the other crimes he commit listed in the first sentence, with no jurisdiction to save him. Fleeing to Mexico may have been the worse option here.
