@@York22 leaning, he knocked it down with a freaking wrecking ball. The new movie is literally referencing the original movie it is a remake of, unless this were Deadpool, the source material is the one thing that is not supposed to exist in the film's universe. It's the reason why no one in the Walking Dead shows know what the concept of a Zombie is, in their universe they don't even exist in fiction. So in this film, like in the original, Time Travel would not be a concept in fiction, especially HG Wells Noel or George Pal's film. Think about it, what if he read the book or saw the movie, it would actually foretell everything he is about to experience like the world ending as well as the Morlocks and Eloi. it wouldn't make any sense.

@@ReaverLordTonus But that's just it... By this moment in time, it WAS just a book/movie/musical. The fact that it all came true in the far future to a scary amount of accuracy isn't the point. The reason the computer doesn't mention it when he meets Alex in the far future is because it disdains the work of science fiction... as seen by his eye-rolling and sarcastic responses. It may be just an AI, but it's advanced enough to have emotions, and with such emotions come preferences (and sci-fi obviously wasn't to its taste)... so while it may KNOW the story, it likely didn't bother accessing it as the thousands of centuries went by, and didn't even see the parallels as they happened.

My favorite part of this scene is actually Alex trying to figure out what the A.I is. Remember that he’s from a time when computers and holograms have yet to enter even the imaginations of the general public. Most other people from his time period, even if they knew they had traveled to the future, would’ve initially thought they were hallucinating or seeing some sort of spirit. Alex, on the other hand, automatically assumes it’s a feat of human scientific engineering and even tries to identify it.

6 years after the upload I know. But did anyone else catch VOX unwittingly give away Alex's "future? When referencing Alex's file, VOX stated he lived 1869 to 1903, meaning Alex was 34 when he "died'. VOX had just told Alex he never returned back in time, a detail that might have registered, had he not been so inclined to argue with the computer!

I noticed this too! However, it gets worse. VOX .knows. its talking to Alexander or at least, figures it out, [there is literally a picture of Alex WITH his profile pulled up] hence the emphasis it puts on 1903 and calling him eccentric. It is intentionally 'subtly' telling him he failed... What still, the horrifying part to me is that VOX is intentionally denying him information. When Alex starts asking for things, it pre-calculates that he's discussing Time Travel and intentionally gives him Science Fiction instead. It knows he's wanting actual information and tries to divert him. When Alex asks him why the past cannot be changed, VOX looks up, to the right, then to the left, then down- This is silently significant! In humans, this means VOX ran through the knowledge part of the brain, found the implications possible, then swapped to the creative part of the brain, finding an excuse, then looked down, as if to put the idea down entirely, knowing that it is lying in saying you can't travel into the past... and then straight up walks away. When Alex pushes still, wanting to know about the time machine, VOX knows exactly what he's meaning by then and who it's talking to, however it does not want to discuss time travel and brings up the fiction again, then intentionally brings up the musical! It knows he said No, but it ignores him and sings that particular song anyway, listening to the lyrics, to tell him to give up. VOX's 'Live long and Prosper' followed with the eyeroll and sigh just shows it knows he's not going to listen. Crazy humans. [ Also, later in the film, VOX gives a vital clue in offering Alex a book by Jules Verne, saying it'd be right up his alley ;D ]
@Leto85
@Leto85 3 жыл бұрын
Good observation. And this is exactly what the Über morlock will tell Alex later on when he explains that Alex couldn't change the past because the time machine he build is the inescapable result of the death of Alex' girlfriend. Maybe that's why Alex decided that if he couldn't change the past, he could change the future, by defeating the Morlocks later on in the movie. I never got that part to be honest.

The A.I. was working within the limits of its programming. If time travel is considered to be impossible by 2030, then the logical answer to the question "Why can't the past be changed?" is a simple "Because it is not possible to travel into the past." And since the visitor kept asking about a hypothetical scenario where time travel would be possible, the A.I. proceeded to show him Sci-fi authors/writers who might provide some answers in their works. And the last bit was just bad voice recognition.

The original novel was more of a social commentary using the future as allegory (just like Star Trek) than actually about the time travel. He only goes to the future there. In the movie, he actually builds the machine to try to save his dead love interest, but each time he saves her, she ends up dying in a different way. In that scene he travelled to the future to try to figure out the reason. It's eventually explained that's to prevent the paradox since he built the machine just bc of her.

Marcos Nogueira such is true. But as a fan of Wells, I must say that this is a pretty good film regardless, and very much Sci Fi. Yes, vastly different than the book, but it tried something different, and for me it works. I wouldn’t call it an adaption, but more of an homage to Wells. The fact that the novel exists in this timeline could suggest as much. Think of the Journey films and you get the idea, but this one beat them to the punch.

Then nature arbores a paradox and the river of time (so to speak) will not allow you to alter it before certain points if at all to prevent a paradox. I'm truly surprised that he had not even considered, if he did return to the past, that he would not reveal the secrets of his machine given how much havoc it could wreak in the wrong hands. At this point in the film it's another possible reason why there is no practical application on time travel

Vox didn't make the connection that this crazy person asking about time travel looks exactly like the Alexander Hartdegen who wrote basically a theoretical how-to on the creation of a time machine. Also, that Star Trek door sound effect at the end was a nice touch.

There wasn't any deeper meanings behind the AI messing with Alexander, because it genuinely thought Alexander was a nutjob and that time travel wasn't real, as evidenced by the Vulcan salute and eye roll at the end of the clip. The first evidence of time travel it had was Alexander popping up 800,000 years later.

@@DivineFalcon there are theories that he knew because he recognised Alexander from the historical documents in his database on Alexander’s work and his fascination with time travel solidified his theory which is why he was so stand offish about giving him any time travel information and quickly dismissed him and tried to make him go away by annoying him with the talk of HG Welles and singing the song

@Ishlacorrin

Theoretically you can change 'THE' past, just not 'YOUR' past. You also cannot go back with the intention of changing the past, the changes must be accidental and mostly unrelated to your own future.

@@Ishlacorrin actually, because of the butterfly effect, you cannot change a single thing since the smallest of changes will end up affecting future you.

@@just_a_person-z1m Hence why I pointed out 'unrelated to your own future'. Not that you will always know what is related to your future, but it is theoretically possible to change the past to some extent. The butterfly effect is not as strong as many people seem to think. A lot of things that have happened in the world would still have happened with similar but different circumstances. Meaning that even with the butterfly effect it is possible that a change would not actually make a big difference in the world.
@just_a_person-z1m
@just_a_person-z1m 2 жыл бұрын
@@Ishlacorrin it doesn’t matter whether a difference is big or not. Any difference at all will end up affecting you in some way, which in turn changes future you’s behavior, however slightly, which in turn changes the way in which you change the past, creating a sort of infinite recursion.
@Ishlacorrin

I wouldn't think that the photonic would speak to Hardigan in that manner. It seems that it has high intellgence and access to all the worlds knowledge. I would expect it more to have a discussion with Hardigan about Time travel and the theories behind it. For example sitting down with Newton or Einstein and having a personal 1 to 1. That would have made more sense then completely ignoring his question.
