Gleason's body language and approach and his walk are priceless. I don't know if this can be taught in any acting school. Every movement from getting out of the car to the end was like poetry in motion. Rumor has it that he ad-libbed the whole movie. I could watch this over and over again.

I am 54 in May and I remember when this came out I was 14...1977' ( the same year Elvis passed!)..Life is ....................................................................flying by! 40 fucking years ago! I'm sure Mr. Gleason will probably be the most remembered as Ralph Kramden. But this is a strong contender for his 2nd place spot. One great thing about this first film (that was lost in the 2nd) was that despite his role as the antagonist, we were allowed in the first film a chance to cheer for him now and then. (This scene being one of them obviously.)

Jackie was once of a game show that lasted only two episodes. The first episode was of the actual game. The 2nd show was Gleason standing in front of camera APOLOGIZING for how bad the concept was and promising never to do anything like that again.

Seen this movie more times than I can remember and this is the first time I've noticed the sweat ring around Jackie's neck line... I've heard that he was drunk as a skunk through most of the shooting because that's how he could ad lib at his best... I guess all that alcohol and the hot Southern Summer didn't mix too well for ol' Jackie G.

I was 10 when this movie came out and didn't get to see it until several years later when it came out on HBO, back in the day when we only had about 15 channels and dials on the "big screen" 25-inch tube TVs, heh. Glad you like it kid. The 70s and 80s in movies and TV in general were great to grow up in (let alone the music), so I'm sorry you missed out! But thankfully you can appreciate the good stuff and not the crap we are dealt with today.
