Thanks for this trip down memory lane, to the old antique lathe my dad had. I know he bought it 2nd hand, but from where, I've no idea. It was a beast, with a 6-ft. bed and all cast iron frame and legs that put the whole thing about waist high. I don't recall the garage without it, so it was either bought before I was born, or shortly after. By the time I was 9 or so, he'd let me help him with some small projects, turning in the handles to shave off 1/1000 of an inch off whatever it was. Some of the chucks were nearly a foot in diameter! He built his own milling attachment besides! He could make or fix anything. I never got proficient enough to use it on my own, as I suck at all things mathematical. But I enjoyed being around such goings on, and to this day, I'm one of the rare females who can get enjoyably lost in a hardware store, and hates shopping for clothes! 🙂 Enjoy your new/old toy!

good it went down, and not up the grade! that was neat seeing the old lathe my dad had an old one that was a flat belt driven one . i used it for trimming ejectors flashing for buffalo arms.
