In 1993 this Michigan country girl decided to move to Chicago and I would have never made the move without the assistance of a leasing agent. I wanted a safe neighborhood and as low rent as possible and that allowed cats. My leasing agent was fantastic and took me to 3 places in three neighborhoods and found the perfect place and there were absolutely no fees. I loved my 4 years in Chicago . I even lived a couple of blocks from North beach and spent most weekends playing beach volleyball All the advice you gave today was true back then. Great video.

i know this video is from two years ago but I just discovered your channel and i was even more intrigued learning that you moved to chicago from arizona! i was born in california but live in az and have spent most of my life here. but my mom and i are considering moving to chicago because it sucks to be a teacher in arizona... not to mention the housing here gives me no hope :( the only thing that deters us is the weather but maybe we'll adapt. my mom is from poland anyways. that's another reason we're thinking about moving to chicago. and i love the fact that we won't need a car! i hope to visit in march of next year.

Okay the first question was mine and I could be wrong but a leasing agent in Chicago is basically a real estate agent/broker in Boston when I lived in Boston you could go straight to the building but sometimes it was easier to work with a broker and they would show a bunch of places and at the end you paid them a fee so the fee for the apartment was $3200 so we paid him $3200 (brokers fee) and when I rented here on Long Island you paid the real estate agent 10% of the yearly rent so I basically was just asking if we have to pay a leasing agent and you answered by saying no

Sounds like a similar process but there is no brokers fee in Chicago. You don’t pay anything ever to wrk with a leasing agent in Chicago.

If you guys are looking for sub leases where you only pay for ur room, and want roommates, 1237 W fullerton does that, their lofts mostly for DePaul university students but they take non-students too

I think it’s never too early to get in touch so at least you are in their books, but they won’t be able to start sending places until it’s around 90 days out.

I'm considering moving from Dallas. My question is about utility prices. We don't have gas here, only electric. I've read that some include utilities w/internet except electric. 1. How much can I expect on average for under 600 sq ft electric bill? 2. Internet included..my internet here is top speed available. So I'm concerned about how well internet is in highrises. Can you stream w/o interruptions, work from home..etc?

you really hit the nail on the head with they post the pictures of the best unit with the prices of the worst unit. so incredibly annoying! I have actually looked at the compass search engine and it's pretty nice. the only complaint I have is that you can't type your own square feet / price range. you have to choose one from the dropdown. Idk if that's something that could change one day or not

Is Chicago pitbull friendly? I want to move there but from what I have noticed most places has a dog weight max of 50lbs... My fur baby is a shorty but weighs 65 lbs.

It depends on where you live. I live downtown in Streeterville and pit bulls are a restricted breed at every building I looked at when I moved here. My building even required me to get a dna test for my goldendoodle because people try to pass their pitbulls of as other breeds. I’ve seen some people get around it by saying it’s a mixed breed but it depends on the building.
