My manager had a Black and Decker mower and talked a lot about how aggravating the cord was. Haven't been to Myrtle in many years.

They've put money and improvement into it, a lot. It's very nice, cleaner, more family friendly than when I went down there in the early 2000's

We’ve been trying to grow grass at our house down there for years. All that grow are some kind of weeds that have little balls that stick to your clothes. We may have to invest in some topsoil. Thanks for the tip.

Sounds like sand spur type weed? A spray of the lawn with something like Speed Zone would like handle most the weeds and make a difference. Happy to help!

You may want to raise mow height! I mow mine at maxed out height (1 notch down for a cleaner look) on a troy-bilt tb115. You can see at 5:18 all those brown dried out stolons, which IME occurs when its mowed too low & then allowed to dry out (which happens easier the lower its mowed). Lawn care nuts got a good video on St. Aug mow height. I personally think that topdressing with compost also helps alot with nutrient availability for sandy soils. ( I like a earthgro 50/50 manure/organic compost from tractor supply @$4/cubic foot by me). For some reason, it like an epidemic for people to cut their st Augustine too low. It really hurts the st. Augustine's ability to hold moisture & form a carpet layer of the stolons which is how it primarily outcompetes weeds, & IMO is definitely contributes to the patchiness here. Its not the fastest growing plant in the yard, but it is able to withstand greater temperature and drought conditions than most other weeds and IMO it wins the "marathon" by getting so thick over the seasons, as weeds come & go, that nothing can get light below it. But it has to be mowed high for this to happen. HARVEST STOLONS FOR BARE SPOTS! You can just take those stolons that are growing in places that are undesired, cut them with scissors/pruners, put them in water for a day or two (optional, helps get roots at every node) then use yard stakes (like for weed fabric) to gently tack them to the ground. With regular watering, like in a new sod install, they will fill out an area in less than a season. I do this with all the st. aug that grows up against my fence. I just rip it out I don't cut it carefully, stake it into a spot spacing each stolon maybe 1/2" or so, pointing the "heads" of the stolons in varying ways and then water. This has the added benefit of being the same variety of st. aug that is already successfully growing in the yard, so you don't have to worrying about variety-specific care. This is all relevant to my experience in central FL at least. Hope this is helpful and God bless!

This should be a pinned post. St auggie loves being mowed at 3.5 inches or above.

Cords drive me crazy. My parents have battery operated mower. Works great for their small lawn. Kinda thinking of trying one at home. 🤔 Enjoy your time at the coast.

Nice job with the st Aug. I wouldn’t cut it that short personally. It likes 3-4”. Could get it looking better with regular mowing and irrigation. The fertilizer, ph correction, and fungicide are a good idea. I wouldn’t use 2-4d. St Aug doesn’t necessarily like the shade but it does tolerate it better than other warm types. The sunny areas look bare because lack of water or potentially compaction. Also, the runners can be cut and planted instead of buying plugs. Just have to water them daily for at least a week or so

Image for southern lawns broadleaf product has worked well for me in my st Aug. I've got the nutsedge product from them too but haven't used it yet

Yes, image is good. If I recall correctly the nutsedge one is not for st Aug. I could be wrong

@@AntoineClaquin-cf2hd yeah the one I got is labelled for st. aug but who knows I think these products sometimes vary by state/region based on regulations & weeds most prevalent, etc.

Thanks for the informative video , I have a warm season lawn in Orlando, Florida, and any suggestions I appreciate, I would recommend what I use a battery mower , and EGO, you should test and try it. Will be nice. You treating that lawn as a test and later on show results would be a nice project.

Thank you! I would love to do that, but unfortunately this isn't my lawn, and if I could I would! I was thinking of doing fertilizer while there, but I didn't because I wouldn't be the one mowing it! haha

St Augustine likes to be cut taller. Are you sure thats the grass type here? Also warm season grasses prefer full sun. Looks very shady there. That could be the main culprit to the thinner areas.
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn Ай бұрын
Yep. Positive. And I agree, however the thickest patch was in the shade…so I dunno.

+1 I am surprised it didn't look scalped with after the mow with the deck being all the way down but idk know that mower. Personally I find that fertilization combats shady areas, the st. aug, just takes longer to fill in.

Wasn't fun, but doable of course. I would like to try it on tall fescue just to see what it's like, but not sure I would want to do it that way ALL the time.

Being tethered to a cord is no fun. I have used a Greenworks battery operated mower (steel deck) for years - much better plus good warranty.

I enjoy your channel and respect your choice in faith and as well your political opinion. I first unsubscribed to your channel bassed off of your comment about the sticker on the sign because our country is divided enough over political BS. I subscribed to your channel again and gave a thumbs down to your video. I got thick skin and apparently my higher power put it in my heart to leave a comment because really as corny as it sounds WE THE PEOPLE are not such divided to where we can't speak. You served for OUR country and thank you for your service. Much respect, Mr.Ferguson I appreciate your content.

Well we all have opinions, and being it's my channel, I am freely going to voice them when I wish. Some people will be on the same page of me, others won't like my opinion, and I'm good with that. You do what you wish to do, but I do my best to keep on on topic of the lawn. Thanks for commenting and thanks for checking out the video.

I think the way you chose to communicate your opinion with also finding tolerance for Mr. Ferguson's opinion is exactly what we need more of in our society. A Thumbs down for the whole video because you didn't like the fact that he voiced his own opinion in it for less than 1 second? It seems like an out-sized reaction to me & more in line with proliferating the division you spoke of rather than healing it.

Mr. Ferguson at least evened it out with more filth when he mentioned the city wouldn't be putting in any Trump Tower-esq buildings in the area also. So it works out. Good content Mr. Ferguson.
