Have thousands of brass cased rounds, both semi and full auto through factory HK 94s and SP5/SP5Ks with HK factory magazines and never had issues. I check the spring every time I clean the guns (I clean every few hundred rounds) and it takes a long while to wear the springs out, more than 500 rounds for sure in my guns anyway. HOWEVER, if you shoot clones or home builds that have failures to feed or failures to eject, even one jam can flex the extractor up enough to ruin the spring right then and there. So always check your spring after you have a jam. Another reason to use quality magazines and ammo as well. The MP5 is still in use around the world because with decent Ammo a real MP5 with real HK mags is very reliable. You can also always install a G3 rifle extractor spring which has more tension than the Mp5 springs.

In my experience this is NOT the case and have shot subgun matches with the same mp5 for years and have not changed mine during any match and I dont have these issues. I have maybe gone through 2 springs including the one in my gun now. I think your build and or aftermarket spring, ammo, or maintenance and or installation techniques might be a better place to start looking for a cause. If you experience ftf or fte then replace. There are noted ranges that put many many many thousands of rounds down range without issue b4 changing but they clean thier guns and use factory ammo.

I hate to be negative, but extractor spring problems after 500 rounds? I find that hard to believe. You spend $2000 to $3000 dollars on a MP5 clone or HK SP5, and your extractor spring has problems at only 500 rounds? That's nuts! I have read other comments that say those extractor springs have lasted for thousands of rounds. I find about 5000 rounds more believable.

Hate coming here to ask a troubleshooting question, but your channel is the first place I search when I look for gun maintenance tips. I'm kinda new to the mp5 platform, I recently bought and sbr'd my sp5k (not a clone). I shoot suppressed almost exclusively, so everything I read said I should use the 80 degree locking piece, so I bought the HK proper part. My bolt gap is .018 but I'm experiencing extractor failures, almost like there isn't enough back pressure to fully eject the case while trying to feed the next. I was using Federal 150gr and it was very consistent. Could you suggest some tips on what to do to get it running heavy loads? I imagine I need to replace the extractor spring due to the sensitivity of it.

Any thoughts thanks and sorry about your loss hang in there.

First, never use aluminum cased ammo in anything. You are not having a magazine or an extractor issue. There is a good chance your Century MP5 clone was not built correctly and is out of spec.
