Animation Effects Editor here. We definitely took inspiration from the Tactical Reload for the MP5 for Modern Warfare. The hardest part was like you said trying to handle the second magazine during the reload process and was a pain to recreate in the animation but we eventually got it right. We worked on it for a good while because the MP5 is one of the iconic weapons in Modern Warfare so we wanted it to be satisfying and accurate. The second mag also made us juggle a little bit during the animation process. Great video.

Ahh...now I understand how the slap became the standard manual of arms for the MP5. I had long thought that using the safety notch to hold the bolt back was inefficient and potentially compromising due to the extra motion of locking the bolt to the rear and how locking the bolt back created a massive ingress point for the duration of the reload. Knowing that its impossible to insert a loaded mag into an MP5 in a closed-bolt position and the charging handle's catering towards gross motor skills explains to me how the slap came to be.

Used this weapon in the RUC (NI) for several years and never noticed any undue force being needed to do a load with the working parts forward. As with about any mag-fed weapon, you're pushing the top round back a little against the mag spring as the cartridge case meets the underside of the bolt, so less of a push needed when the bolt is back, but no biggie.Normal drill to load was with working parts forward.

Good job on the video, I always enjoy your stuff. Just one comment on using your thumb, I trained at the HK academy in the late 80's. The instructors taught two fundamentals, 1. Every action begins with locking the bolt back (loading, unloading, weapon malfunction, etc). 2. They always trained to use gross motor skills, big motions with large parts of your anatomy, that way you would not become Mr fumble thumbs when the stress was on! You guys do great work, it's nice to see some love for the old girl MP5 in a world of CZ scorpions and MPX's.

I run an MP5 in the PCC division in USPSA. Way faster to just download your reload mags to 28, then you dont need to lock the bolt back. Seat a 28rd mag and pull the charging and let it go. This is all on the clock where time is king. And hot reloads are possible. Half empty isn't really needed, 28 rounds is downloaded enough to still seat. Plenty of examples on my channel of my doing this on the clock.

im thinking one could have their palm face the barrel, and pull back with the right side of the hand between the fore finger and thumb. instead of relying on the strength of the thumb its self. but then when you return after the mag change, hook your thumb over top the charging handle in a "mini slap" motion, really only moving it to a point where it returns by its self. idk just my analysis on it.
