How do I get a sample to loop so I can use the loop with a synth and midi? I noticed when I am in the sample editor I have an option to hear the sample looped, but I can figure out how to get it to loop or loop reverse outside the sample editor.

So i've had the MPC live for a little while now and been creating some stuff. But i wanted to watch some video and go over basics. My question is: why do you load samples on audio tracks instead of pads in a program? I have seen a couple people do it now and I was curious if there was a reason most do this instead of playing the sample from the pad instead?
@dragosfrangulea64472 жыл бұрын
I've just bought an MPC One and I was getting frustrated because the loops that I loaded into the MIDI track were cut short when I tried to do something on the step sequencer. Once I loaded them as audio tracks, they played from start to finish. That may be a reason, but I'm not sure. That's what I noticed.

Thnx for your tutorials, and i finally belive i found the happy hardware as the middle ground between sequencer, groovebox and or as a PC DaW with Ableton. @MatthewStratton5 жыл бұрын
You can assign your synth output to 3/4, or any output that isn't the master out. Then you can put the output into the effects, and then output the effects into MPC Live's inputs. Then you you would have to monitor the input, preferably on an audio track. I say audio track this way you can record the audio into the MPC Live if you want to.

Do you mean instead of using drum programs and triggering pads? There are more options readily available to you in the audio track screen. And if you are coming from a DAW it would likely be easier for you to use these options to edit. Things like warp (to match BPM). Fade in. Fade out. Reverse. Being able to trim your audio and move it freely on the timeline. Adding other audio samples in the audio track. A whole list of things that you can do from one window inside the audio tracks, where if you were using a drum program you would have to toggle through several windows.

As an MPC Live owner I'm still struggling to find value of multi sequence workflow. Honestly once I've went down that path and then realized that everything gets complicated as you need to adjust things in multiple sequences - it turns into a tracks mess and there is not much value you're getting out of it. Then I realized that going with single (song long) sequence and a lot of tracks is much easier and straight forward. Only problem with single sequence approach is that editing capabilities on the grid could still be better, for example having possibility to copy and paste notes from multiple tracks at once. What's your opinion on this topic?
@MatthewStratton5 жыл бұрын
Hello. Not sure the exact issue you are having and what specifically you are adjusting in multiple sequences. The most important thing is to keep the same program on the same track in all the sequences. So if you have "program001" on track 1 in sequence 1 then "program001" needs to be on track 1 in sequence 2 as well. This way you are able to sequence your song in song mode and have all the tracks be correct when you convert the song to sequence. Then you can easily export your tracks individually for mixing in a DAW if you want.
@basstradamus15 жыл бұрын
@@MatthewStratton one of good examples is when you have a sequence which you want to repeat 4 time for example then you want to transition to other sequence. Usually you'd like to have something special for transition. I. This case you need to repeat seq 3 times and after put a copy where you put some transition sounds. Another problem is that you can do much with seq, you cant play it one from the middle once from last beat. It is very inflexible. I would love to be able to decide in song mode not only what seq but also be able to play part of it (less than 1 beat). Those are just two examples, bottom line is that imo it's hard to arrange smooth song with sequences. You need to copy a lot and if you have some break sounds you need to introduce tracks to different sequences. It's also hard to stick to your advise especially when you keep adding tracks to different seq once your basic song structure is in place.

If you want a sample to continue to play until you stop it look into using "clip programs". A little constructive crit(which means I'm neither trolling nor dissing your hard work), but it seemed the inspiration for this vid was using prefab loops. It might have been a better learning experience if you started with 'So, I grabbed 2 folders of loops, one is a loopmasters sample pack, you know the kind you get with ANY purchase or a ComputerMusic subscription, or breathing...and the other is an old school Acid library, remember those?' To see how the mpc sees these loops which would not be setup for the mpc as the content that goes with it does. In Ableton Live, when you do this it's kind of tedious because you have to decide how far to warp it to inline it to be tempo friendly...I'm curious if the mpc live is as tedious as Ableton Live or is it more intelligent in regard to non-standard content loops/samples that do have a bpm.
@MatthewStratton5 жыл бұрын
If your samples are trimmed to an even number of beats the MPC does a decent job at detecting the bpm. So if your samples are not trimmed perfectly I would say trim them first. Once trimmed, you can warp any sample to match the bpm. I wanted to use samples that anyone with a MPC could use and understand easily and be able to follow along.
@gossamyr5 жыл бұрын
