I own an MPC but what you said at 17:20 is some real truth! If you are comfortable with a piece of equipment then that's what really matters! Knowing the ins and out of a piece equipment will really be the thing that allows you to make music.
@AccurateBeats6 жыл бұрын
Yeah! Sometimes you might need to get out of your comfort zone to get the creative fluids flowing. I'm a strong believer of mastering your main tool and make it work for you, instead of against you! It's not about the gear, all about the ear :)

This is the best MPC Live/MK3 comparison I have seen. I have a MPC Live also but have been taking a hard look at MK3 partially because of Kontakt.
@GhettoStyles6 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed! The MPC Live is an excellent sampler/Drum Machine/Instrument. I am very comfortable with my Live. I just like a lot of the things you can do in Kontakt with all of the possibilities of the expansion libraries you can get Native and third party. The only reason I don’t have Kontakt is because of the pricing. I want to purchase it but then I think that if I buy the MK3 I can get it as part of the package for close to the same price... and then I always say why buy a MK3 when I already have a MPC Live... Never ending struggles...
@InkyDaCaT6 жыл бұрын
Ghetto Styles 😂😂😂 true true, well I do have kontakt and yes it was awesome at time, but to sample anything and play it polyphonically is a balls ache! By the time you've done it, it feels like work....honest, I dont think Ill ever use it again to sample, Im into sampling synths and mpc can put 4 things on pad then flatten then 3 more etc, faster than I can boot up my computer😉
@GhettoStyles6 жыл бұрын
I agree with that. When I use my MPC as what it is it is getting to be near flawless. From the videos I have seen Maschine and MK3 seem to be much better when it comes to handling VSTs in general. I have seen MK3 play VSTs and sound like they came from a keyboard. I do have a few keyboards but when I try to play VSTs using the MPC pads it seems to be a little clunky and doesn't quite have that keyboard sound. Thats probably my biggest gripe. If the MPC fixes those issues or even better allow you to install VSTs via internal SSD or HDD I would be in MPC heaven!
@InkyDaCaT6 жыл бұрын
Ghetto Styles you can plug keyboard into mpc, but what Im doing is going dawless? So I get an analog synth or any sound really, not vst, sample it on mpc, layer it up with same note but slightly different sound plug keyboard in then Ive made my own vst😉 way forward, no more cash on vsts

Thanks a lot! I tried to mention both good and bad things on both of them. I think “Massive” itself is kind of a selling point for Maschine and now since it has a built in audio interface it’s way easier to use external synths a such... standalone is standalone though. Just not the most important thing for me right now. Thanks a lot for watching!

Thanx, pretty objective . Akai is back . Some of my friends from the Hip Hop world never adapted to maschina, but that s a lot of religion. Remember 2000XL i loved it, but i am on maschine mk1 still. One of the features that annoys me about NI: They always keep refining their products. Launch something new. You can upgrade SW as a special purchase, but it s not possible to upgrade on HW with a special offer. I came to this video cos I was asking myself, who s the next one, to finallly embed a whole Touchscreen. So the winner is... akai. No I pad , No extra IF . sounds very promising. One more thing that i think should be mentioned: the standalone MPC, as any other standalone beat making hardware, is using the small and inferior cpu it has built in, whereas the "Maschine" uses the much superior cpu that your computer has, and that is very useful when applying cpu-intensive effects. This is a fact no standalone-hardware manufacturer can fight against. On the other hand, Akai did everything they could do to make the MPC the best standalone beat-making hardware. The touch-sensitivity of the MPC pads and the workflow are second to none and are the result of their great history.

Basically. But honestly if you’re invested in NI Kontakt libraries, just go with Maschine. Especially since they will probably go to a cloud based system soon and it will sync with all your libraries, DAWs and other Komplete Kontrol controllers. But its like a DAW in itself, it takes time to learn and digest the muscle memory to play it like a instrument.

Excellent review!!! First-time viewer and new Subscriber. I bought the touch at the beginning before the Live which they were only talking about and the X. I constantly had to reinstall the drivers and software and spent long nights and even days trying to just get it to work right. I got frustrated after not getting any real help from Akia besides them repeating back to me my response and doing all the same procedures I was already doing. I put it aside and moved on because at the time no one wanted to deal with it either and selling it wasn't possible because I found I wasn't alone. They released the Live and X. Beside the excellent tutorial that was released on Akia KZbin channel of the function workflow after all the bad publicity and the Live and X being produced and not yet released, I believe it was done to save those two devices from negative publicity and fear it would affect sales. I really wanted and did love it when it worked. The big problem I have now is that they seemed to have abanded the Touch for the more expensive units the Live and X. I haven't had any updates or even seen any mention of the Touch since the release of the Live and X. I finally did get it to work the problem is my spark for it is gone. Plus there to overpriced. The Live was supposed to be under a grand and the X was only supposed to be around fifteen hundred. I still can't get my purchased packs to load after purchasing another computer and reinstalling everything to give it another shot. The X and Live do look like the bugs are kinda worked out. The problem I have it was at the price of those of us who invested in the Touch and earlier issues and now we have a device that shelved before it got a chance at our expense. Peace

MPC live in standalone mode has ,after the operating system takes it slice, has very little RAM to work with for making music. And it has no sample rate buffer adjustment. When it overloads it spazzes out and crashes . At a gig that would be a serious problem. I had to return 2 units and get a MK3. Shame.

Grip Phillips Ram has nothing to do with storage memory. An sd card stores projects and samples, RAM stands for random access memory, and is something that cannot be upgraded on an Mpc. Nothing to do with being 'cheap' Bro.
@basedallas76796 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've heard about those crushes, it never happened to me tho. When you making a lot of processing, it could occur, but I mean A LOT. You have to use quite a number of RAM-eating programs and effects. MPC is mainly a sampler, not synthetizer nevertheless it could do it. Everyone should consider his own workflow before buying one or another. I was making music on computer but after I bought MPC X I didn't touch it since. Love the MPC simplicity and easy accses to all functions. Now I don't really spend a lot of time by programming, I can just focus on the music and this is important to me most. My workflow changed at once, I'm just sampling the synths, drum machines, and vinyls. So much fun! :) 64GB SD card was add, and I'm also saving RAM by offline sample processing, it is more than I need...just opinion, peace!
@LousyFacelift6 жыл бұрын
dazzajames72 It's true that the MPC software takes up quite a chunk of the built in RAM but that doesn't mean that you're left with too little to work with. I heard about the Live crashing in the earlier version, not in the current one. I remember the Ren freezing up all the time in its early version and that's a controller. You're taking risks with both but in the end being independant from the computer is still a big deal. Every time a new OS comes out for your mac or pc you have to hope and pray that your controller is still supported and even if it is there is the risk they overlooked something that can cause new problems.

Put a 7 inch touch screen on it (30bucks) and you have something a lot more powerful than the laptops at this range and lot lighter. Easier to upgrade and fix. It's probably not as convenient as the standalone device, but you can do a lot more things than just live performance.
@MrFullCake5 жыл бұрын
@Divinital Well i never said i couldn't find use for the mpc. Please just take my comment as a type of advice for the community and not only you. It's just that if someone is buying it just because of "computer size/weight reasons". You can always find alternatives. Different kinds of setups for different types of folks. Everything is good if it works for you.

@R. U. Sure Well i can't give you a direct easy link, most christmas promotion have already ended. But if you search on Aliexpress or Second Hand Market. You can easily find parts or configuration that fit those needs. But like for everything you have to put time on searching the right materials.

I had a lenovo miix tablet/laptop and the maschine mk3. So i had touch screen, it could run on battery and was a very travel light and compact setup. And also it ment i could use my laptop for other things if needed, when im out traveling i often need a computer for some things. So i think both options can be good choices depending on your needs. But now that the new MPC one is coming out that is really a very attractive price and feature set!

I love Maschine but this past week I bought an MPC Renaissance and I'm really liking it. A lot of people were right about the MPC swing. My drums sound better on the Ren then it does on my Maschine MK1. I still have a lot to learn about the MPC workflow but from what I can tell, the MPC sequencer is much better then the Maschine's sequencer.
@JEFFMAN906 жыл бұрын
After using the Ren for 6 months I can confirm that Maschine's software is way better but the MPC has the better swing and sequencer. Akai really fucked over Ren/Studio owners with the 2.0 software. Its not well optimized for those two controllers. I might end up selling it and getting a MK3.

That "swing" & drum compression can be emulated on the Maschine.

What should be considered as a plus for the MASCHINE MK3 ist the price point. The MPC LIVE costs almost twice as much as the MASCHINE MK3. So, if you already own a capable PC or Mac and you are a beginner and money is a concern, then the MK3 would be the better choice imho.
@InkyDaCaT6 жыл бұрын
MetaphorHipHop yep its cheaper if you buy it with out sounds, but I was shopping for new mac, ended up with mpc...no regrets, if your into sampling, its so much quicker than kontakt
@MakingMadBeats6 жыл бұрын
Inky Blue I think you are not completely right. Maschine comes with Komplete 11 Select and gives you more than enough sounds to start with. When using Maschine you use the built in sampler of Maschine Software and not Kontakt as a sampler. Of course, if you need to buy a new PC or Mac you will have to spent more money compared to only purchasing the MPC Live. But when you want to take things further and work with the MPC Software on your computer, too you will also need a capable computer for doing that.

Good point on the prices of these devices, the MPC Live costs quite a bit more! AccurateBeats has put together a great comparison here. I wanted to mention that although he's alluded to the MPC Live as being portable, and how he'd "only need headphones to work on a beat," I don't recall him exactly mentioning one of the most important aspects of the MPC Live's portability - IT HAS A BATTERY LIKE A LAPTOP! So you don't even really need to connect to power for several hours if you want to mess with something.

I agree with the both of you. That sounds like a great video to make! My problem is that I am really slow on the MPC and really fast on Maschine so I know the comparison would be unfair. There are also different ways to do some thing... chopping up a sample for instance. There is a quicker mode in Maschine than the way I do it but I still like to copy the sample to a new pad and edit the slice points with the knobs. It would be faster to hit the pads in time with the track but I just like my way more. Same with the MPC. Some functions are really great but I rather do it “my way”.. I’m kinda stubborn like that sometimes and things like that slows down my workflow a bit... I think I’ll try to make two beats from the same sample on the two devices when I’m faster and even better at using the MPC. Thanks a lot for watching my videos and being active in the comments and stuff. I appreciate that!

Excellent video! I have been using Maschine from MK! to Studio and Jam. I have grown to love Maschine but bought the MPC for stand alone use. I have come to use the MPC as an instrument and song sketcher. Maschine Studio & JAM as a sample chopping sequencer. Ableton has become my vocal/ effects and mixdown DAW. I really dig your four point comparison. Workflow was the biggest challenge for me. Maschine's workflow is linear while MPC is both linear and vertical and less visually appealing. It takes getting use to and I still get confused having to jump around screens. Maschine saves a lot of time by having everything on one page. Finally I have gone after Native Instruments for "Auto Scene follow" on its hardware but they are not interested because they can't make money off that feature! MPC pads follow the sequence and even pre-light the active scene! How kool is that! I'll post a vid on my page shortly. Great work on your end! Keep it up! Stay lit! Salute!

You need BOTH. MK3 is a universe all itself. MPC is the portable sound lab. When /if NI decides to make Maschine a standalone unit, nothing in the world will be able to touch it. For what it can do, nothing can really touch it now in my opinion. It's just got literally every damn thing you need with ridiculous features. Where the MPC ends in capabilities, the MK3 is just getting started. Akai is building tactile Hummers, Maschine is building dimensional-traversing spaceships. The weakness of Maschine is that it must be tethered to a computer, but it feels natural...like it really needs to be - the interaction is flawless. I absolutely LOVE both devices. They can expand and introduce your talents to a different workflow and production style / sound.

@jonlindsey41146 жыл бұрын
Not really. You can load any Native Instruments plugin, but as far as Maschine sound packs or expansion packs go, you can only load the samples from them and create your own kits, but you cant open the Maschine kits. What you can do is open Maschine as a plugin withing MPC and vice versa, or you can open Battery 4 inside MPC and get to the Maschine expansions that way.

Instant subscriber here, well laid out comparison from all perspectives. Our musical journey shares some similarities except I went the opposite way from first using the Mpc 60 II....2000XL in a sample based approach to Maschine with mostly vst's. I still keep a few vinyls around for that odd occasion where I might decide to mess around for a bit. You definitely give an "Accurate" account of things going to check your music out right now thanks for this!

Accurate does a fine job with this comparison (now that the comments have been added about cost differential) so I just want to add a warning about Native Instrument's draconian registration policies. If they are not followed exactly, NI will NOT help you in any way and your controller will be a door stop with flashing lights. 1) If you buy new, make sure you get registration codes for *both* the hardware AND software because they are completely separate in NI's database. This, despite the fact that both are required to use their products. Register ASAP to make sure the codes you have are available. 2) If you buy used kit, do so only if the seller can provide you with proof that they have followed NI's process to create License Transfer IDs AND provide those numbers to you -- typically by forwarding NI's verification email. Again, register ASAP to make sure the codes you have are valid. Make sure you have recourse if they are not. Currently, Guitar Center USA has almost 1,000 used MIDI controllers, over half of which are NI. This is not because they are popular; they languish in inventory because GC accepts them without License Transfer IDs. I posted elsewhere about this less than a year ago and at that time GC had 120 used NI controllers. They now have over 400% more. Scary. GC starts every NI product description with a disclaimer that "software is not included" and correctly points out that NI will not sell software separately. BUT, even if you get the original discs with purchase, they are useless unless the registration codes are available for transfer. This situation is so bad that there is a warning page on ebay for potential buyers of NI gear.

Great review, Gotta agree. The Live seems to better handle the sequences than Maschine. I too have both, & prefer the immediacy of the Live. Especially when you're on the move, that's where the unit really excels. Plus, the sequencer seems tighter than Maschine. Feels more natural......plus, you can import sounds from Maschine Expansions...& the library..Just my two cents..Peace..

@usskittyhawkcv63915 жыл бұрын
The problem with the live is it's workflow is a lot less intuitive than the simple NI workflow. The built in instrumentation is also severly limited. You literally have like 4 standalone keygroups out of the box, and a few leads... Sure it's standalone, but you can't get good instrumentation without connecting it to your computer. Otherwise your just left buying expansion packs and using drum loops/pure samples on an SD card. Which I get, some people like. In my opinion, the ~$1000 cost just isn't justified compared to the MK3's though, since you can already do everything the Live can do on the MK3, even if it just takes a bit more time to do. The MK3 also just has better PC integration (naturally). VSTs are easier to utilize and control with it. So again, that price to me, isn't justified at all for its limited flexibility.
