MPC One Crashing Issues
Today we're talking about the MPC One crashing issues. A lot of people have been asking me if I've noticed my MPC One crashing since taking the 2.10 update last summer (July 2021). One hour before filming this video, I experienced my 5th crash since taking the update. Since I didn't think that was too bad, I wanted to make a video talking about it, and walking through my normal workflow to see if it would crash. Much to my surprise, it did crash again, and on camera! I also noticed some double triggering issues starting to pop up, so I'll be sure to keep an eye on that as well. Great videos in your channel! Unfortunatly i have a problem with my mpc one retro edition. When i push on pads 9, 10, 11 or 12 they play all four Together. It seem an hardware problem. Can you help me to fix this bug?

I just got the MPC one and updated it to version 2.10.1...I keep getting crashes every time I try to load a project made on the MPC 1000 into the MPC one. Akai must release an update to solve this crashing issue.

I also had this experience. Akai needs to figure it out. You can't always worry about crashes, even if it's not seriously frequent.

Power user here. This is not something that happens often and ive noticed it happens whenever the machine is simply overloaded with things to load. When sampling using the sampler this problem wont ever occur unless you're recording some massive samples. expansions are massive so load them carefully!

I've had a few crashes, and the retrigger issue. Thankfully, it's only sometimes, but it can really derail you. I hope they're working to fix this, it's a great machine otherwise. I never had it crash before the latest firmware.

I had several crashes last year and I sent it back to Akai just a month after I bought mine. Apperently saving in the internal memory permanently damage the MPC in my case. They sent me a new one and I never had any issues since. I save everything on an external SD card (projet, squences, expansions,..) and I run the lastest upadate. I never leave the MPC on standy by too long too . For the double trigger check your pad sensitivity parameters.

I’ve found that projects & samples (which are all I really need it for) are fine on the internal drive, it only crashes if I try to play with expansions

This shows that my idea of going Maschine Plus is not wrong, they all have issues now and then. I hear a lot of good things around the Maschine workflow and that's the most important thing to me.

I've had a few crashes with my MPC ONE, and after a while I figured out why, turns out it was a corrupted file in one of my expansion packs. I took every pack off the hdd and external had, added them back 1 by 1 and found the pack that had issues, and it's been fine since. So maybe try that,

i wonder if reloading in all the instruments after a crash might solve the double triggerinng thing? Well impressed with your very natural sounding finger drumming and wind section patterns. is it really that straightfoward to use? This year I commited to the sp404mk2 and trying to learn the differing workflows. A friends gone withh mpc one and seems very impressed with it so far. Maybe its more of a well rounded one box solution to not wanting to use a DAW with all its soundpack, sampling, fx and sequencing options. Can the mpc one do synthesis too? hmmm im gonna have to ponder on this one a bit. 🤔

The MPC is pretty straightforward, once you wrap your head around the workflow. It can definitely do synthesis, it has quite a few synth plugins baked into it, they are pretty nice! Thanks for watching :)

Wow... im sorry your mpc one is acting that way. For the double triggers i found help with adjusting the pad velocities. With the crashes from multiple expansions. I have experienced that a bit. Which is why i upgraded to the live 2... but the one shouldnt be trippin like that.

I've since played around with the velocity settings and can't seem to get them to stop, I'm hoping it's just something I missed. I'm guessing you haven't experienced crashing on the Live 2?

Yep, it’s happened to me And ALWAYS when I’ve been in the middle of some of my best creations. At first I thought I was doing something wrong but I now know that was definitely not the case. These aren’t made in Cupertino are they?

is the data on SD? Check the integrity of the SDcard? What spec is it if so? I had this a while ago. Changed SD out and better. I do have issues with touchscreen responsiveness after two years ☹️ PS lovely drumming 🔥

@@FreeBeat I just checked to see if it is possible to load expansions to the Internal 16Gb flash, but sadly not. I wonder if a USB attached disk will provide better throughput for expansions? I have a 128Gb SD connected with perhaps 6-7 expansions and it can be slow sometimes. I'll create a USB expansion drive and see how it works out 😁

I have a MPC live 1 and a mpc-x. Both crash when loading sounds and expansions. It started after the last update. 2.10. i thought it was the MPC x because I bought that a few months ago. Turn on my MPC live the other day. Crashed on me a couple of times same as in video.

Double triggering happens often when full level option is active. I guess pad sensitivity may have something to do with it. My MPC also crashes ever so often but I don’t think the expansions are the thing to blame. I have also MPD 226 and this thing double triggers as well

I get crashes too sometimes. Do you use a Mac to transfer files to your SD card? Macs write extraneous files on the SD card which are hidden. Wonder if that could be the issue...

I'm beginning to wonder whether downgrading from an MPC Live 1 to an MPC One was a wise move. Purely down to size. Took delivery of a new MPC One and the screen stopped working after 3 hours. Backlight, no GUI. Sent back, waiting for a new one. Is the MPC One really that unreliable? My experience of Akai samplers and MPCs are they are rock solid.

It's def the update that is causing the crash never had problems before and i'm having the same issue now. hopefully akai is aware and fix's this issue with another update or at least a patch. the double triggering is an easy fix though, just mess with the pad velocity or i'm sure there's a youtube vid on it somewhere.

My MPC X won't even start! Power on and unit loads but, at main program screen it flashes "Your MPC was not properly shut down the last time you used it. Please power down correctly to avoid data loss" then shuts down. I haven't figured out how address. Akai/InMusic support sucks - they haven't answered multiple support tickets.

Double triggering is really an issue. I've had a Live Mk1 and it started double triggering and then suddenly one pad was dead. It has 3 years warranty (Thomann) so I've send it back the the seller, they opened and re-soldered. I've had some double triggering with Native Maschine Micro Mk3, sent it back to NI headquarters and they sent me a brand new, no questions asked. The only instrument that I felt was really reliable was the Maschine MK3, no double triggering and amazing sensibility, but I think 500€ for a midi controller is a bit too much.

I have 2.10.4 and just yesterday was .2. On both, recently, when the screen blurs after the timeout, the machine is frozen much if the time. Say if I walk away from a new project with only one plugin loaded. Come back a while later to keep working on a loop but now the screen is somewhat unresponsive and Play doesn’t work. There’s some menu items that respond but don’t actually do anything when you hit them. Updated from .2 to .4 same thing. Hit the power button, goes into a frozen Shutting Down screen. Have to unplug which means a clean reboot right away. Does this every single time now

I went back to 2.7 that's the most stable FW imo. Plus they haven't messed with pad mute yet. And Q link mapping saves to a project. Akai needs to fix 2.10

I have owned my MPC One for over a year and have had very few problems. Occasionally my MPC One will tell me I didn’t shut it off properly and give me an Internal Message Warning Error after saving a project with the 2.10.0 update. 11-21-2022 6:35pm ET, I was saving my project I was working on for two days getting ready for an open mic and I ended up receiving the Internal Message Warning after a attempting a save and now half of my MPC One buttons/functions don’t work/respond. I have attempted to reset it yet nothing has helped. I am unable to do a factory reset due to not being able access most of my functions. The functions that won’t respond are as follows: Full/Half Level, 16 Levels/Notes, Copy/Delete, Erase, Note Repeater/Latch, Main/Grid, Menu/Prefs, Shift, Tap Tempo/Master, Undo/Redo, Step Seq/Automation, TC/On/Off, Sampler/Looper, Sample Edit/ Q-Link Edit, Program Edit/MIDI Control, Record, Over Dub, Stop, Play, Play Start, +\- Field Value Selector and the Data Dial. Now whenever I press the + value selector my screen glitches and I can’t access most of my functions. I don’t know what to do and honestly need help. I was able to install the new 2.11.4 update yet this didn’t fix my issue. Currently I can still use the 16pads and access kits and expansions yet am unable to record/play any new tracks. I am able to play a track if assigned it into a program yet I honestly am having difficulty using my MPC One. I have submitted a ticket yet I don’t think I’m going to get much help since my MPC One is outside it’s warranty period.

@@FreeBeat I hope so too. These machines aren’t inexpensive and I don’t know anyone that repairs MPC Ones in my area. I’m sure I most likely won’t get help from support. I put my order ticket early yesterday morning and haven’t seen anyone with this issue. I invested money on expansions packs when I first got this and honestly haven’t had any severe issues til this glitch fried my pad. I hope it works it too without spending another 898.00 to get a new one🤞 Thanks for your support Free Beats!!!

I use a SSD external USB hard drive (externally powered off a usb hub) for my expansions and, it pushes light speed when loading. No re-triggers either.

Only time I've had it crash is when Im editing in grid sequence mode - if I select and copy a note or a group of notes while the sequencer is running it may crash from time to time. It doesn't happen all the time, but every now and then - so I've learned to double check that I've saved my work before I copy notes! But this is the only time it crashes. And usually only on projects that are a little heavier on the memory and cpu

I get double triggering and retriggering basically all the time with everything, but doesn't bother me so much tbh. Just had first crash just now on 2.12.2 trying to open track mix, just rebooted itself, but didn't give me a popup after saying that it had done so, it just came back to an empty project and the last save had no changes in :(

I literally received my MPC One a few hours ago and got this error 3 times. The only thing I did when it crashed was load a kit and then select another one to replace it (after watching your video I realise it probably loads it into the MPC while the first kit I loaded is still active). What the hell is wrong this thing? Nice workflow and all + an insane amount of options. But what good is all this magic when it can't even properly load normal kits without crashing? I even reset the preferences and it still crashed when using the piano samples. I did notice there was a second layer of tape on the box before I opened it. The first layer was already cut open, so perhaps someone already sent this back because it's a faulty unit. Anyhow: solve this, Akai. You can't sell expensive gear when it's this buggy.

the only hangs/crashes i've had were in screen where i guess the beta testers have not spent much time testing such as the looper page and song page so i've made a habit of going back to the main screen before saving.

I’ve never had a crash on the Live II or Force. I never use the expansions. I have noticed strange behavior if they’ve been left on for several days (something I don’t do often). Things just start to go funky with sampling and save/load.

Having the same issue also with the latest fw also when applying effects on synths or so.. Yesterday I had to delete a project since it crashed everytime I tried to load it. The project was made 1 day before with the same machine. Frustrating!

I had the Force a few weeks now and just recently the last 2 days I had about 8 or more crashes with that same error you had in this video. It happens when I try to put an effect on a track. My MPC Live don't do it just the Force.

I’ve had my MPC since May 2022 says that I worked on it nonstop every day and up until today November 19th 2022 My pads are starting to play when they weren’t supposed to and they are really jamming up and making it hard for me to sample and chop and play sounds so I don’t know what bugs or malfunctions and I have or even if it needs to be updated?

I’ve been trying to get in to the MPC ecosystem for the last month but I failed due to every MPC I used had the doubletriggers. I bought a used MPC Live II, a brand new MPC Live II and a brand new MPC One. I tried every single possible combo of threshold and sensitivity on the pads but I could not get rid of them. I watch most of your videos and I’ve noticed that you got multiple doubletriggers in the past without commenting on it. On some sounds is not as easy to hear as it was on the piano you played. A tip for testing is to just create a 128 bar sequence and record while watching the events go in and you will clearly see when they happened and it is a lot especially when playing melodies. Totally unusable in my opinion and that’s a shame because there is a lot of things the MPC do well. But when it comes to the pads there really is nothing that competes with the Maschine +/Mk3.

This is surprising, they both are SD Cards. I think the internal on the MPC One is a Micro SD Card. These cheap b@5stard5. **UPDATE**: And the Live II.

Could 3rd party expansions play a part in this? Just a thought….. Or maybe from trying to read an insane amount of information from an SD card. Why did Akai give this (now) $900 machine so little memory?

Yes, my MPC One was crashing during a gig after 30 minutes. Now I´m thinking about having a backup (e.g. a drum machine) to fill the gap if this happens again. But that is not how it should be...

Whatever akai says about 2gig of ram, having loads of files in a project seems to be an issue. My live crashed about four times since last summer so it's not a probkem. My 2kxl also crashed sometimes. Best not to have thousands of files happening.

Just updated to 2.11.9 and now my MPC One wont let me open a new project without telling me there are new plugins to install. It starts by all the LED'S going out, then the egg timer thing and then the message about the new plugins! Also I can't seem to log out of my account on the unit, or refresh the plugins page. Also just bought the Air Delay Pro and can't get it loaded into my MPC, why do we have to have so many accounts just to make music! It's so off putting when your music making time is so limited! This is very strange.🙄 Great Video btw 👍

Are you still using the MPC One with problems? My MPC One has firmware 2.10.1 and its the worst. I wanted to upgrade to the latest 2.12.3. I think the programmers for Akai are bad now. Should I upgrade.

No. My mpc one is still locked into my account which means i cant refresh and load new plugins. 1st and last time i buy from akai. Also whats with having to have a million different accounts!.....its so overly complicated!😢

With a great deal of use only had a few crashes. Mainly caused by poorly tested / configured third party expansions, accidentally deleted / moved main directory files or accidentally saving to internal memory. All double pad triggering I have had was sorted by playing with pad pressure settings.

I have lots of crashes on my Mpc one mine occur when I’m connected to different midi units my maté owns a digitakt and it happens more that than any other it’s fine over midi din but when I use usb midi that’s when the problems start

@@FreeBeat yes 2.10 is installed. I have had the same problem with the expansion packs as well! I believe the update allows you to use class compliance midi over USB however when I do and have been using the drum packs that's when I find the crashes a problem I have now worked around that by using my arturia drumbrute impact over midi din which eliminates the problem, if I need a tom or clap then I use the sample pool which seems to help the memory of the mpc!

@@FreeBeat I'm not entirely sure what causes the crashes, It seems very random, but in most cases I get crashes when using the Hype synth and Multi-Samples. I have to admit tho, My force crashes alot less since the previous update. I just wish Akai would fix this.

Ive had the same problem with crashing as you 3 times so far. Im glad you caught it on camera. You should send the video to akai. Not that they will do anything about it tho 😂

I like my Live 2 but it crashes on me. it really get on my nerves. mostly when turn my data knob. but tonight it crashed while was about save beat. i just hate i spent $1500 on it and it crashes when it wants to. i can't get any help from the company. shame on you Akai.

@@FreeBeat I used to shut off all my electronics but then someone pointed out that if you keep turning on and turning off something...it increases the risk of malfunction, a fuse, short circuit, etc. It happened with my desktop computers long ago and happens with light bulbs all the time. Haven't had a problem yet...fingers crossed.

It appears that akai hardware is of pretty low quality.

I definitely wouldn't go that far, I think this is something that a software update could fix.

@@FreeBeat I am unsure, just take a look at their cheapo usb midi keyboard, the low quality springs in the keyboard are getting weaker over time and the keys end up sagging. A good example that somewhat cheap can also mean way better than that is Behringer's keystep knockoff, the Swing. It doesn't suffer from this problem at all.
