I've got to say that the Maverick is probably the most exciting and practical platforms Ford has come up with in quite some time. These things could really be the answer for a lot of young families just starting out. You guys need to try it out with some snow-tires before much longer, to see if it makes the vehicle more drivable in adverse weather conditions. A lot of small businesses and delivery places would be interested in something that fuel efficient.

As I was watching this, it was said that the Maverick is the most efficient pickup ever. My thought was, well it can't be as efficient as a VW Rabbit Diesel pickup from the 80s. Well, I was wrong, as VW claimed 39 mpg apparently. It also only had 48 horsepower. The Maverick seems to be a pretty amazing little pickup. I think Ford is going to sell them by the boatload.

Had a 2door 1980 VW Dasher 5spd non turbo diesel brand new for 14yrs. It was 60hp and did 0-60 in about 30 seconds. Built super heavy literally a brick crap-house. On road trips top cruise speed was about 70mph max. Given the truckers did just about that we simply would draft trucks and given we were the same speed up hill it didn’t matter. 50-54mpg at the pump was typical road trip mileage. Around town low 40’s. That diesel had a bad habit of sheering connector rod bolts which it did at 150,000. Stopped dead while sitting at a stop light.

I had a 1985 VW diesel Rabbit when i was in highschool in 1985.. It was rated to get 55 mph, but it was so gutless that you had to floor the gas peddle the entire time just to keep up with traffic. Even then you could barely keep up with traffic and you were blowing everybody behind you away with thick black smoke. Ended up getting around 30 mph or less when all was said and done. I think the Maverick is going to be an amazing vehicle. For a lot of people, they only need a truck a few weeks (or just a few weekends) out of the year, but for the rest of the year, trucks are too big, too expensive, too fuel consuming for their practical needs. The Maverick goes against those issues. For people shopping for an entry level vehicle, price wise it's going against small and midsized sedans, many of which it is more fuel efficient. It looks to be a good choice ignoring that it is a truck. For many people who need a work truck more for bed space rather than big hauling, this is the perfect vehicle. many construction workers just need to haul around a lot of tools, not so much tow: again, perfect. Lots of fleet cars, any that need to be replaced now have an option that is A) cheap (21k is cheaper than a lot of compact cars) B) fuel efficient, and C) a truck! Honestly the only people who I could see not liking this truck those who get huge trucks for the appearance, or the biggest off roading is when they drove over the planters at the grocery store. Sure, when it comes to raw capabilities, it's not an off road or towing beast, but there are other trucks for that, Ford has the ranger and f-series. But they hit it out of the park when it comes to filling in a market segment that has been empty.

The fuel mpg was barely any better than the F-150, especially with the 4wd. That made me wonder, "Then what's the point? Why not just get the F-150?" Glad to see that Ford has corrected this with the Maverick.
@RKmndo3 жыл бұрын
Too true. I can get better MPG with a V8 1/2-ton than many ppl get with a V6 mid-size, just by setting the cruise at the speed limit. I got 22-23 MPG with a 5.7 Tundra, 5.3 F-150, and 5.7 Grand Cherokee. The quickest trip I ever drove between C FL and Chicago was in that 5.3 F-150. It got over 600 miles on a tank, so I only had to stop for fuel once.

Same happened to me back in 2015. I looked at a 2015 Tacoma and couldn't agree on price. Waited a year for new and improved 2016. They had 5 on lot and all priced at $38,000. Over $10,000 more than year before. Went across street and Colorado was about same price and same as Tacoma for lack of space in back seat. Ended up with an unsold 15 Silverado for $32,000. Traded it for an 2018 and still have it. Plenty of room in back seat, good for towing. BUT 20mpg on a good day. When it comes to hybrids, there should be a disclaimer on the fuel economy. *Your experience WILL vary. With the hybrids I've driven, 50+ MPG out of the Maverick is VERY believable. However, there will be people that buy them and get less than 30. I'd be willing to bet you can knock that Maverick under 20 quite easily. It's Colorado. Take it out during a super cold and snowy day. The engine will run itself ragged trying to keep the interior warm and windshield defogged. With the right terrain and traffic, you'll see 60+. It's possible to even break 100+. And with those numbers in mind, your experience WILL vary.

If you go and watch the log hauling video you'll see the Maverick on its max payload while the RAM has nothing on it. Sure, most of the hauling was done downhill but you can still see the Maverick on flat grounds with the logs on. That’s Awesome. If the Mav has the big payload and the Ram didn’t then that extra force needed would account for a drop in mpg. So the Maverick might have actually won.
@1guyin103 жыл бұрын
You guys would have to have a very early production truck since the hybrid was just approved for shipment. Those press vehicles had to come from a late prototype or pre-production run.

Ford Maverick Maniac channel has a video showing his Mav hybrid gets 20 mpg better than his Jeep Cherokee, wow.

I just want to point out that this wasn’t scientific because of the difference in ranch work, but that’s awesome
@TFLclassics3 жыл бұрын
One thing worth noting is the Ram and Maverick went the same distance at the ranch (only a couple miles) and the loaded portion was almost all downhill

I'm definitely gonna have to drive one of these little hybrid trucks. My biggest concern was that the 191hp in a ~3,600# rig would be pretty slow, but apparently they're a lot more peppy than that power/weight ratio would suggest. And...if they're even CLOSE to 40mpg hwy at 70-75mph (higher speeds obliterate truck mpg, here they weren't going that fast)...for the money they're asking, it'd be stupid NOT to buy one.
@berkalper47423 жыл бұрын
funny enough, a good friend of mine just pre ordered a 4wd xl maverick. he's on a budget and for about 26k there is simply so much practicality in an easy to park package. (an f150 simply cannot fit in his current parking garage).

The Maverick does 95% of what half ton truck owners actually use their truck for. I have a hybrid on order and will rent a uhual on the rare occasion if needed. This will be my fourth pickup and my first non 4x4. Never imagined I’d buy a FWD pickup.
@tombreach3 жыл бұрын
Haha, yeah I agree at least 95%. Get a Mav. Hybrid or a real 4x4 truck like a used Tacoma. Not the Mav. EB+AWD, I don't understand that one. I ordered a Mav. Hybrid. When you say uhaul, that could be truck or trailer too! Home Depot can rent you a real truck, or Turo peer-to-peer. Even then the Mav. will match most Turo trucks.

I have a ram with etorque. It saves gas in town if you don’t have a heavy foot. The electric motor will kick on and do some of the work for the V8 when coasting at 30-45 mph. It takes a bit of practice to know how to coax the truck into this mode but once you know how it’ll start boosting your mpg substantially.

This is awesome. My brother just bought a new Ram 1500 Eco diesel and I'm ordering a Maverick soon. So we'll do this same test. The big deal is he will have paid twice as much for his Ram although it is 4wd and a diesel.

Not surprised by the trip meter lying lol. My focus tells me I'm getting 24.3 and pump math says 22.2

I mean, it looks cool, gets over 40 mpg with mostly higher speed driving, uses a very durable and proven powertrain, and it's affordable. While also being a pickup truck than has a higher payload than some fullsize trucks. Are there seriously any new vehicles in the 20-25k range that can match or even come close to the Maverick's combined package of being super efficient, affordable, versatile, capable, reliable and cool looking? I can't think of a single new vehicle on sale that offers the full package like the maverick does for the price point it's at.

My full size 2017 ram 1500 tradesman quad cab 2wd gets 20 in town, 25 mix and 28 hwy mpg. Terrific truck and all normally aspirated 3.6 pentastar engine is great. Plus has the highest payload of all of Dodges half ton trucks.

I'd like to see if Andre got his baked potatoe. Also that truck would be a hell of a truck to own for myself. I probably drive 300 miles a week for school and work and leisure. That thing would be amazing on mpg considering most of the roads around me are 55 mph roads.
@koripallas66133 жыл бұрын
If you do the math before top off it’s 50 mpg and I feel if you didn’t do the log testing or ranch testing I feel you would have achieved that

Yes it can. I have a Ford F 150 that averages 16 MPG and a new Maverick that averages 34 MPG. Sure the f 150 is 10 years old but she's been well taken care of. In fact I got the Maverick Hybrid to keep some mileage of the F 150. Love them both!

I think the Maverick could beat world market diesel trucks when it comes to efficiency. I drive a 2021 Isuzu and I get 28mpg (US). Also, why is the RAM's payload so incredibly low? My little Isuzu D-Max's payload is 2425lbs! That's standard for world market trucks like D-MAX, HiLux, etc...

Looking forward to an MPG E loop too. With all the new E trucks hitting the market it would be interesting to see how they perform in real world driving vs on paper with EPA and manufacturer claims. Especially interesting with Ford because they’ve really been stepping up their actual MPG figures vs a few years ago when you would struggle to get close to the ratings on the early Ecoboost models.

I considered a new Ranger, but the Ranger owners on the forums were all complaining about poor gas mileage. Not worth it, when an F-150 gets better mileage. New Maverick ordered.
