So the infotainment screen, which people use all the time is worth 10 pts. And the voice control system, which I’ve never seen anyone use ever, including myself, is worth 2.5x more points. Your comparison could be better. Really should have flipped those. Infotainment should be 25 and voice control 10 or less

I agree that they gave that a little more importance than warranted BUT it is something that makes operating a vehicle more safely. That said I don't think it changes the rankings too much, probably brings the Nissan up closer to or ahead of the Hyundai. Toyota still the best and Ford slightly ahead of the other two. I also think they put a little too much emphasis on Apple Car Play. The whole idea of Apple Car play is to be able to operate phone controls without having to grab your phone, does it matter if it's plugged in or not at that point? I don't thnk so.

When reviewing new cars and trucks, I think that it is important to include details around each manufacturer's telematics offerings. Specifically, what is included free of charge, what costs extra, and what is included as part of a time bound promotion. This is especially relevant now, considering the recent pushback against Toyota and their key fob remote start controversy.

I think adding the price to the bottom of each score would be helpful as well, as it kind of shows what you get for value for price paid. Ex I would be mad if the Tundra didn’t score the highest and it was disappointing to see the Frontier with such a low score simply because of the price you pay
@chappo48453 жыл бұрын

That is a legit point. That Tundra starts at $66,000. Should we even be comparing it any of the other 3? Put it up against a Silverado, Titan and F150. In that group I'd probably go after the Nissan Frontier for the cost per tech point.

Note on Nissan voice commands. It requires you to select from the prepopulated menu choices on the screen, so when it asks "Please say or select a command" you have to pick from what's already on the screen. Overall a fairly informative comparison. I think the weighting could be reconsidered. One thing I disagree with, in general, is that wireless CarPlay is superior to wired. Eventually you’ll have to plug your phone in anyway to keep it charged and I find Bluetooth sound quality is inferior to wired sound especially as battery depletes, even volume is less.
@EdwardVarner3 жыл бұрын
I don’t understand the obsession Y’all have with wireless car play. There are several drawbacks like worse audio quality, quick battery drain etc. Some things are just better wired.
@davehoffman5153 жыл бұрын
I've seen more reports of Android Auto wired connections having poor audio quality than Bluetooth. I have wired AA and don't notice a difference in quality going between bt and aa. Aptx is pretty common these days and compresses/decompresses without quality loss. As for battery drain, newer vehicles are coming with wireless charging pads as well. The Maverick for example has wireless charging but not wireless aa which is kind of a weird design unless you don't use AA or Carplay so you will be using Bluetooth anyhow

100% I agreement. I drive a lot of different vehicles as part of my work fleet and one of the most aggravating things is how many button presses it takes in some to change the equalizer settings. Little things like easily selectable settings hotkeys make a huge difference in usability, and I suspect get far more use then a lot of the gadgets, although I do like the gadgets. For example, I really like Ford products but found out ridiculous that I had to go through 4 different menus to turn on a steering wheel heater until the 2021 models dropped.

We don't use them because they generally suck. But they suck because we've accepted the redundancy, rather than shaming the manufacturers for rendering them to a gimmick. Its funny seeing all the old folks complaining about missing volume buttons and digital displays. Reminds me of the outcry when Apple took away the home button. I am an oldie as well, but like the digital displays and lack of volume buttons. I scored Adaptive Cruise based on buttons available but not the technology that it uses. The Santa Cruz and Maverick are so far apart on adaptive cruise controls. The Maverick has basic controls that I don't think even respond to vehicle distance. The Santa Cruz has distance measuring and will auto stay in the lane. If you were scoring the real cruise control the Maverick would get 1 for basics and Santa Cruz a 5 for the features you get. ...but that volume button score :D

How many menus to get to your goal? Count the clicks. Are the menus intuitive or are they hidden? Not just Apple but Android. Wireless/Wired. Wireless charging - does it work well? USB stick connection for music - where and search ability Glare? Ability to switch from often used screens (music, nav, phone, specialty use) Voice Control - not only fail/ success, but time to accomplish. Customization of vehicle through system (lights/ locking/ seats/ presets …) Safety Suite & customizations. Ability to upgrade system. Gauges: What can you monitor? Can you alter based on need? I.E. Temps if towing. Heads up display Drive modes: Number of? Are they really different and useful? Ease of use on changing them. Location, Location, Location. Honestly, it’s sad that Nissan did so poorly for being such a “new” truck. I liked this review. Not only does driving a vehicle matter, but how it’s technology is set up is a big deal.

I think Nissan did well. It's a truck that does what trucks are supposed to do. Do some trucks do some things better sure but I would say far from a poor truck.
