A speaker who stands up, MUST cause anyone else to sit down (except for those requiring to stand because of lacking a seat for her-/himself). And if that does not happen, a point of order resp. intervention by the speaker is justified. Some female speakers formerly might have gotten a bit too "overexcited" occasionally. But, also a female speaker must be respected - and given attention to, the same way as this is the case with a male speaker.

@Falcrist

It's an honorific, which means it's assigned rather than earned. Likewise for "The Noble". Some of the supplementary titles may be earned, though. "and Gallant" (for an MP that previously served in the military) comes to mind.

'honor' is not the same thing as 'chivalrous' or 'courteous/respectful'; honor primarily means one's standing in society, and how much consideration and weight one may have in that society; that's why you can have 'honor killings' in the Middle East where a demonstrably evil act is done in order to remove a supposed stain on the honor of a family and thus restore their standing. It's only in certain cultures where the two notions are mixed into a single concept. You see it more predominantly in Western cultures, less so in non-Western cultures.

I'm amazed that they used 'sit down' instead of 'I will require the honourable gentleman to resume his seat'. These MPs are like school children getting told off by the teacher, except the teacher has evidence from the law to make the children listen.

I was born in the East End of Glasgow, Scotland were I spent the early years of my childhood, those who know Glasgow know the East End (as its locally known) has the more difficult Scottish accents, tending to be a little more gruffer, slurred and mumbled (even if the person has no form of speech impediment what so ever), the West End has a more polished dialect and a softer accent. So to me, someone who had to learn to speak a little more in the West End side of the Glaswegian accent when I moved here 20 years ago, I can tell you that the fact that the "Honorable" cant understand the member from Scotland its complete BS as he is speaking perfectly clear, he even manages to have the traditional Scottish twang in his accent (which is commonly known as flem which is used a lot in traditonal Scottish/Gaelic words such as Loch) which is actually considered quite a honroable Scottish trait in your accent (totally unrelated but still). My point being the gentlemen clearly either had some form of hearing difficulty and was too proud to admit it or he simply wasnt/did not want to listen to the Scottish Members questions.
